This bass was made in 1990. It is a 24 fret 5 string electric, with 1 split coil pickup and one humbucker on the bridge. It has a separate volume control for each pick up, and a tone control. The tone knob is also a two-way switch that switches the pickups from passive to active mode (pull-out for passive, push in for active.) One 9v battery is required. The finish on this bass is a glossy, slightly metallic royal blue. Looks sharp, no flaws. The hardware is pretty standard, nothing special, but solid - it's not hard on strings and it holds it's tune well. The neck is super-slick on the back and is medium in thickness. It plays very well. One thing I don't care for are the fret markers - they're little pictures of the planet Saturn. Kinda funny looking but not a major thing.

This bass has a great punchy sound when played on the active electronics. It really has a fat, cave-your-chest-in thump when played loud. I play it through a Peavey TNT150. It definately is not noisy - no white noise or buzz, even when cranked up. It can achieve a fairly wide range of sound between the active/passive pre-amp and the separate volumes for each pickup. I play alot of classic rock, a bit of metal and blues and even some country, and this bass plays them all.

The action was average, a little high for my liking. I had it set up professionally (frets filed, bridge and neck adjusted) and I like it alot better now. I should emphasize that it did not come set up poorly, just in need of a little tweaking. There were no flaws in construction.

I'm not real hard on this bass, but in 11 years of playing regularly (and a period where I took a hiatus and it sat for nearly two years,) it has held up very well. It has fallen from a leaning position a few times, once onto concrete, and it is no worse for wear other than a few dings in the finish. The finish is extremely wear resistant - top marks in that department. It is very dependable - once set up it has not needed any adjustment. I'm cautious - I almost never play without a back-up, but this bass has never let me down yet.

I've been a bass player for 11 years. I also own a Fender MB-5 5 string bass, which I also like, but the active electonics on the Samick kick. I would definately buy this bass again.

it's a 1999 samick 5-string, 24 fret with 2 volume and one tone control the pickups are samick j pickups and I'm not sure if they are active or passive, I think they are active but like I said I'm not sure. has a solid finish. has a string though body bridge which the b string at time is hard to pull trough when changing strings.neck is fat and it is a long scale.nice finish on fret boards but very soft, strings have eaten groves on the most played frets

this is a very good sounding bass, I drop tune it alot for playing stuff like korn, coal chamber and stuff like that and it sound clear not a lot of muffled distortion when dropped, warm full sound, easy to tune, I use a peavey Microbass with it and a B160XL 15in speaker amp combo with it. I also use a DOD Bass30 effects pedal with my bass. only thing I don't like about it is limited sound variety, which the effects pedal makes up for.
