I have recently bought this and am very impressed with this bass. I have the 4 string ash body rosewood fingerboard with big blocks. Active passise push pull volume pup pan and bass and treble(only in active mode).Double pups neck and bridge company made not emgs. Tuners are stamped Schecter nice that they made them bigger than normal schallers I hate those tiny tuning pegs LOL. As far as body style goes it's a cross with a Rickenbacker with an esp neck. Very comfortable c type neck reminescent of a jazzbass neck perfectly filed frets very rare for an overseas instrument of this price range.

I play thru a Markbass 112 with a carvin 18 inch cab. I play mostly metal music and hard rock and occasionally alternative and this bass has been able to deliver. I love the passive sound since I have a markbass rig the natural sound of the bass comes thru. I have tried the maple neck and black combo and found that the ash rosewood is better for me; more dark of a sound less bright which is what bass is supposed to be. I highly recommend the ash/rosewood if you are looking for a deep meatier sound. The best feature of this bass is the pup panning very effective I play with the panning and usually I get the sound I want. Panning is very sensitive. By the way if you love jazz basses hey get this beauty I'm not much of a jazz enthusiastes but it can nail a j bass sound down better than a j bass, incredible I love to try to jazz it up sometimes and my Jazz bass just sucks tone wise to this schecter.

Well the one I tried was on the floor for a while so I guess the techs must have adjusted it for sale. All I can say is that I was very impressed with the frett dressing all filed and very even no fret noise. Pick ups are fine maybe I could change them but hey I play warwicks usually so this bass is perfect as is.

Construction and hardware seem fine like I said I recently purchased it so I can't really tell. I played with my band and it was like I was playing with my warwick but a different sound.

I have been playing for more than 25 years. I own a variety of basses. I a bassaholic. This bass in my opinion outvalues outperforms and out.............. a lot of other basses on the market. I own Fenders MMans Warwicks and 1 rickenbacker and a whole bunch of other stuff. I beleive that at this price you just can't beat it soundwise playability are outstanding. I currently use a Markbass 112 combo with a 1 18inch cab( IMHO Markbass is the best amp on the market right now if you want to really hear what your bass really sounds like). I have a variety of pedals. HUmphreys audio modified compressor, exotic bass preamp humphreys audio modified Badder monkey Boss Super bass chorus , MXR 134 bass chorus (much better than the Boss HIHI) CE 2 chorus by boss and Recent Boss Octaver/driver pedal.

24 frets, laminated top, volume (which doubles as active passive switch [push/pull]), pickup blend, bass and treble eq knobs.
Natural finish.
It's a kind of Rickenbacker shape.
2 humbuckers (schecter made)
Strung through bridge.
Very slim and fast neck.
It's fairly light also.

This bass sounds, for want of a better word, amazing.
I mostly play metal/ rock live but record just about everything else in my home studio.
It goes from very very punchy P-bass to a mid range growl that is very very jazz bass like. So it's as bright or as dark as you want it.
The EQ emphasises this further, I can dial in the exact tome I want at any time.
I can get that Jaco mwaaaah sound or the Steve Harris gank or the Jason Newsted clang or the Stu Hamm middley tap without needing to touch the EQ on my amp.
I'm playing through a Peavey Tour 700 head with a Tour 2x10 and Laney Nexus 115 and I couldn't be happier.
Even direct through my good old Art MP it sounds alive.
Live I go from very chorused clean to unbelievable filthy and it feedsback naturally like a Les Paul.
It's the first bass I've had I can get squeeling pinched harmonics out of without any effort.
It cuts through and stays bassy and there's no drop in signal anywhere on the neck so it doesn't sound over bassy on drop tunings and high picking.
I'm finding it hard to get anything negative in. It really is the bomb.

When I bought it it was instantly playable (it was an ex demo so it had probably been adjusted).
There were some surface scratches around belt buckle height on the back but it was ex demo as above so no complaints.

I've clocked in a lot of hours live with it and more recording.
There's no spot corrosion on the bridge or tuners yet.
The wood looks great.
It's built like a tank I left it in the bands van for a week after a gig and when I took it out it was still in tune, it just doesn't give.
I've had no problems with it. Not even a hint of crackle.
The push/ pull active/passive is a very nice touch, I've had batteries die on my mid gig.

I've been playing for 17 years and I've owned a lot of basses. This is my number 1.
If it was stolen I'de be gutted and would hesitate to buy another.
I was a 5 string player for years beore I got this one and I'm now a 4 string convert.
It's replaced my Yamaha 5 string as my main bass.
I chose it because it had ??200 off the list price and it caught my eye on the way out the shop, I'd never played a schecter before.
A pickup switch would be nice but that's not very common on basses so that's a personal thing.
It feel good to play, it sounds good and it looks good.

EQ is simple but extremely dynamic in tonal quality (IMHO). The action is low but nicely balanced. I purchased the 004 in an unbelievable TRADE +$70 at a pawn dealer (yeah, I'm a guitar player but I LOVE playing and noodling around on bass guitars...I swapped in one of my custom Strats for this bass....I was actually there to drop off ANOTHER guitar Oscar Schmidt OE Black, and was checking out the other instruments in the shop...picked up the Schecter...played it through some cheesy guitar amp and was SPRUNG...had to go home to see what ELSE I could either sell or trade for the bass). I own and play 2 6-string bass guitars (Heartfield DR-6 and Ibanez SD-6)...I had a 4-string once, but it was stolen 13 years ago...so picking up this bass was a 'late' replacement...much to my surprise...this thing sounds and plays GREAT!!

Brought the 004 home, put on new strings and started examining the depth of sounds I could muster with my home practice amp (Ampeg 115 watt thingy). Nicely and pleasantly surprised with the tonal value and range...again, SPRUNG. However, I REALLY feel like I STOLE this instrument because when I jacked into my production-rig (Fender Bassman 400) I was like WHOAAAAAAAA....NICE!! Supa NICE!!! I'm scared of Schecter - quality production sound...can't wait to record with this thing!

I have the Black joint - I love the color Black and the maple or oak (or whatever you detail hacks call that beige colored wood) ain't hard on the eyes either. The action reminds me of this old Hagstrom guitar I used to play when I first started playing guitar (over 23 yrs now)...close with no buzz. Sweet. I LOVE the weight and the 24 fret girth and length are PERFECT compared to my other 2 bass guitars...I LOVE playing this thing and LOOKING at it too. As usual though with BLACK equipment you gotta be a stickler for keep'n this stuff lookin' CLEAN...I kinda 'get-off' polishing it after Im done playin (it's a catharsis maybe? I have black on black XJR and a Black on Tan Aviator...so go figure...I like shiny-black things??)
Anywayz - I like what I loosed up from the pawn shop - what a stroke of luck on my part...oh and did I mention that the Oscar Schmidt and the 2007 Strat were BOTH 'black' too? Seriously!

My Heartfield DR-6 is an 'eye-candy' kinda thing...half decent sound...just need to have the right setup done to it and I'll be 'in business' with it, but it's a sturdy one. The 004 is nice and heavy, too...in a low-key kinda way - it doesn't LOOK like it can take a beating, but I'm sure it CAN. And from the quality of it's playability and sound I wouldn't be surprised at all. This one is a KEEPER. I typically take care of all my stuff, so I'm really not that concerned with the notion of it falling apart or having poor craftsmanship of the materials make the thing fall out from under my arms and hands when I'm playing it...from what I've observed thus far, this bass may outlast ME before I get rid of it (which I doubt).

C'mon...for what this thing cost NEW and for what I laid out for it ($70.00 in LIKE-NEW condition) I consider myself fortunate (though I am feelin' kinda bad for the individual who felt they HAD to get rid of it for quick cash, y'know? My wife's been at me to get RID of a lot of my guitars because they're 'cluttering up' the family room (which the family NO LONGER uses...except or rare occasions when they hangin' home)
My whole experience THUS FAR has been a 10.

Mine is a Factory 2nd, but I had to squeeze my eyes to find the microscopic air bubble under the paint that got me buying it for some ridiculous 320??? (inc. delivery) from an US eBay shop a friend recommended me (I'm from Spain). It has a "2" stamped below the 24th fret, but I realised some days after it arrived, so you can imagine how insignificant are the stetic "problems". Strung with D'Addario.

Whos, whoa, whoaaaaa!!! You can't imagine how superb could this bass be!! From muddy, low end bass to metallic punchy, this axe has all the variety you can imagine (and with just 2 band EQ!). This is not the case where you find almost the same sounds no matter what p-up you have chosen or despite the equalization: with the Schecter 004 you WILL know if you have selected front or rear, active or passive and how much of bass or treble you have put in the mix. Real powerful sounds, with a very good, decent and powerful passive (I would have expected it to be much poorer). Pick, fingers, slap,... Metal, rock, pop,... You name it, the 004 cuts it.

Extremely comfortable and easy-playing (the most one I have tried, and I've tested many!!). It came out of the box very well packaged and ready to play, almost in tune. It has a low action (much more than I'm used to with my Fender and my other 2 basses) but you're not able to hear any fret buzz at all. Finish, for me, is perfect and flamboyant, despite being a Factory 2nd (I don't mind at all). Comfortable for pick and amazingly comfortable for fingers. It will stay in its place, no diving. It's a strong piece of wood, but not as much as I was expecting.

I would rely in this bass as much as in my Fender. I've not yet had the chance to try it live, but I have "punished" it for hours in a row and it has stayed in tune and it's solid enough to kick your worries away and focus on enjoying the pleasure of playing it. Don't care about it being bolt-on and 2 band EQ: it won't let you down!!

Although it has not been necessary for me to contact Schecter, it would have been OK if they had sent a user's manual or something like that.

I've been playing for more than 9 years now. I own a Fender Precission American Deluxe (which I??m very fond of and like a lot), and I needed a cheaper axe that I could take less care of, even leave it in the rehearsal room, but this bass fulfilled my needs in sound, versatility and playability.
My searches have lasted for more than 2 years and include a risked and deceiving first option with an odd collectors item wich I still own. This time I knew what I wanted and it was almost impossible to find it for less than 350???. The 004 overpasses all my desires and even goes many steps ahead. Now I have a problem: my 2nd bass is too much of a marvel to be a 2nd!!!
Seriously, it makes a 1st bass perfectly, I swear. If it was lost or stolen I will DEFINATELY purchase another one (after slaughtering the thief and all his/her family and bomb-raiding the hell they will be sent to!!)
I'm nobody to tell anyone to trust me, but you can trust me: THIS IS A MARVELOUS BASS. Deadline.

Nice bass. Appears to be well made without glaring QC issues. Feels solid; heavy, I would guess 9+ lbs. 9V active system (Pull-Passive) with Schecter manufactured pups. Alder body, maple neck with maple fingerboard, black block inlays. Non-transparent black finish with cream binding on the body. Thru or bridge stringing. Rick-like body shape without the annoying shape edges on the Rick. "C" neck profile very similar to my P-Bass.
Sound
:

Capable of a wide variety of sounds. Came with Elixirs on it and they're not my favorite, but, plays well and they sound O.K. Variety of settings with the active which allow for deep dark "P-Bass" stuff right up to Rick-like trebley sounds. Pull-Passive switch. I play everything from country to rock to blues so it should fit right in with the mix.

Setup from the factory was very poor. Intonation was right on, Action was way too high with a significant relief in the neck. These are Korean manufactured basses with setup allegedly done in the USA. In their defense, it is a well made bass that settled right down after I adjusted the truss rod and bridge. Now the action is nice and low and appears to be stable.
Fit and finish are appropriate for a bass at this price point. Pretty well done in fact.

Solidly built. My one concern is the machine heads. They seem a bit light, along the style of Shaller M-4's. We'll see if they strip out. I would probably take my old stand-by with me to a live gig or the studio, at least as a back-up.

1 year warranty. No contact with customer support other than to email for an instruction manual. They sent a Word doc that was simply a generic manual for all their guitars. But, they sent it quickly. They at least try.

Playing for a very long time now >20 years.
This is a nice axe that I feel I would be willing to keep for quite a while. I'm a failed Rick lover that could never get comfortable with my 4003 and this gives me the capability to get the "Rick" sound in a more comfortable bass. I definitely like the neck profile on this better than the flatter Rick necks. Just my Fender upbringing I suppose. Beautiful maple neck with big black inlays, nicely done headstock. Matt finish on the neck so they have some idea of what a player wants and needs. Decent electronics capable of a wide variety of tones/sounds though these will eventually get upgraded I suspect. I do like the pups so they will likely stay, and the pre will go eventually.

This bass is awesome. I have been playing bass since 1972 and have most of the bass guitars purchased since then - Fender J BAss, Rick, Hofner, Gibson Thnderbird, Godin. This inexpensive Japan Made Scheckter has become my favorite. It is light. It is powerful. It has a very fast neck and seems to be a slightly shorter scale than I am used too. Very easy to play. Great sounds from the Schecter Pick Ups.

The thing that attracted me first to the bass was its look. It is a cross between J Bass and Rickenbacker. I love the MAPLE finfgerboard and Big Black blocks. The body binding adds to the great look.

Light weight yet built. I didn;t have ANY problems out of the store and don;t expect any. Only minor issue will be to keep the finfgerprint off the polished black paint job. I was thinking off adding a pre '73 fender finger rest to add that missing J vintage touch and hand rest.

Love the feel and action! Neck feels great! Kinda flat on the fret board compared to my Jazz Bass. This bass really brings out your creativity while playing. It was set up and ready to play from the factory. Brass nut really brings out the highs of the bass. I had to adjust the string hight and truss rod because of fret buzz.

The sound and styling of this bass is very unique. It has a Rickenbacker body shape with a 70s Jazz bass Flavor with the block inlays. It sounds exactly how it looks, AWESOME!
