This Bass has a single coil pick-up at center position and a humbucker at the bridge. 6-bolt bolt on neck with string thru design gives this bass great sustain. Active electronics give the tone endless possibilities.
What stands out the most to me on this bass is the neck. It's comparable to a Jazz neck, but more comfortable. The neck has a slick finish on the back making it very easy to move around as wanted. The bass as a whole is a piece of artwork.
It's a pretty simple setup that I would not change except perhaps having to volume knobs instead of a blend knob.

I play many styles from praise and worship to progressive rock to jazz to solo work (similar to V.Wooten). The flexibility of the tones available is incredible! If you use the center pickup with the high end rolled off, with a boost to the bass, you get a warm jazzy tone that blends well with a live setting. Or you can trim the bass back a bit and let the highs go to give a beautiful bright tone. I must admit I use either the single coil by itself or blended with the bridge pickup, seldom using JUST the bridge. The humbucker is just too thin in my opinion, unless your doing some kind of harmonic work over your bass grove. That particular situation is ideal, but not used very often at all.
The CV-4 sounds great on stage and performs well, but this bass REALLY excels in the studio. It records wonderfully! The output can be a bit hot because of the active electronics but just cut back you volume knob and you'll have no problem. Actually, I find that the tone has more character when you trim the volme knob back a bit anyway.
One thing that doesn't thrill me is the noise and hum of the center pickup. However, that is the nature of that kind of pickup. Any bass with this setup will give you that noise.

The factory setup was pretty good from the start. I've had the bass for close to 3 years now and it's held and put up with all the different demands I've given it. Action was a tad high, but I fixed that in about 10 minutes.
The Pickups' height was perfect. As was the finish. Flawless.
I have not found a bass with a playability factor as high as the CV-4. My Gibson SG took a REDICULOUS amount of work to setup and still doesn't play as well or sound as good as this one. Same thing for my Gretsch. It just can't compare.

This bass is quite hardy. The neck is solid and RARELY needs adjusting. I've touched the truss rod maybe twice in 3 years? It's also fairly easy on the 9V batteries. Doesn't go through them like I've seen some basses.
The different tunings and strings I've used on this have proved it's durability for sure. I started out with normal gauge strings and tuning it E A D G. Then I decided that I wanted a tenor bass and I tuned it A D G C. After this the action was a bit high on some of the strings, but that was easily fixed. A short time later, I decided that such a great sounding bass needed to be used for more than just some tenor applications. I put it back to E A D G with lighter strings. It didn't play nearly as nice so I decided put the action ultra low and use it primarily as a tapping bass. Then I found I needed a tenor bass again for recording so I switched again to ADGC tuning. Having switched again and previously setting the action ultra low turned out to be the ideal setup. I will not touch this bass' setup again; it's perfect. Everyone who has played it in its current state has told me they've never played anything that felt as good as this CV-4.
I'm glad I had such fortune in setting it up.

I've been playing now for about 8 years now and own 6 basses:
-Schecter CV-4
-Schecter Stiletto Custom 5
-Hohner BBass-IV
-Fender Acoustic
-Gretsch ElectroHarmoic (I think that's it's title)
-Gibson SG
If this bass was stolen, I would try to get another although they're discontinued, so that may prove difficult.
I have found no other bass that has both the playability and sound production that can come close to this one. Incredible Value. And it's pretty; Flamed Cherry.

I've had this bass for about a month now mainly for recording. Up until now, my only other bass was a Fender Jazz Bass V. I've been playing for about 10 years now and decided that I needed something new. 24 Frets in all, 4-string standard. This bass has LOADS of tone options. First of all, the output is active. There is a 3-band EQ on board, which cuts/boosts the Lows, Mids and Highs and a volume control. There's even a "slap" switch installed that scoops the mids and accentuates the highs. It's quite handy. And last, but certainly not least, you can blend both the Duncan Design single coil and humbucker pickup. The neck is bolt-on, but the sustain is nevertheless excellent. Grover Tuners are used on this bass, which i've always been a fan of. The Guitar Center that I bought it had was pretty useless. They didn't give me a manual, registration card, allen-wrench or anything. Also, the bridge is String-thru, which sounds great.

Because I mainly do recording, I find that this bass suits my needs very well. I have not yet taken it gigging. Tone variation is where this bass excels. Because of this, it also suits many styles. It is capable of gorgeously-bright tones for slapping or aggressive, dirty sounds. Cut back the highs, boost the lows and mix in some more J pickup for that huge, warm tone you need. I'm using it with an Ibanez 60 watt Bass amp as well as recording it direct with a Sansamp Bass DI. I'm extremely satisfied with the results. As I have no experience with this bass live, I can't tell you how it would perform under that circumstance, but it certainly feels very solid and sounds superb.

Unfortunately, this particular straggler must have been set up in a sweat shop by a disgruntled child laborer. In other words, it was set up poorly. I had a luthier set it up to perform up to par (neck adjustments I tend to leave to the Pros). Finish-wise, it was immaculate. Not a single thing wrong with it.

This bass feels rock-solid. I've only gigged with my Fender jazz bass, but I certainly wouldn't be afraid to give this a try. It feels well-built and that's certainly a good sign. I can't say the same for another brand that I've recently tried (cough...ibanez). The truss rod has only had to be adjusted the one time since I got it (because it wasn't set-up properly. Of course, I live in Minnesota, where the weather fluctuateslike you wouldn't believe.

Overall, I'm really happy that I bought this bass. I've ben playing for about 10 years and have only owned one other bass (Fender Jazz Bass), but this certainly makes me want to put the Fender back in the closet. If it were stolen, I'd buy a new one. I love the variation of tone it has. It can go from nearly-Ernie Ball to fender jazz in an instant. That's fantastic. I was considering purchasing an Ernie Ball Bongo bass, but it felt cheap and was about twice as much as this bad-boy. Also, my loathing of Flea helped deter me from Ernie Ball. If anything, maybe I wish that it had neck-thru construction. Other than that, it's absolutely great. Peace, out.
