OK, I believe mine is a 1980/81 model. I've scoured the net trying to find a resource I could use to date this thing, but to no avail.

Solid walnut body, matching one-piece walnut neck with silver position markers on the side of the neck, and what appears to be maple.

Gold tuners/bridge/knobs.pickguard. Gold frets, not unlike a warwick bass. This was a refret job performed by a noted Adelaide luthier; when I purchased the bass, the original frets were worn practically down to the board, and I thought matching frets would look quite nice against the deep coffee colour of the neck.

Bass has a lovely antique quality to it's appearance. Bass also weighs a ton... THE heaviest four string P I have ever lifted...

Quality of craftsmanship is outstanding. Neck pocket is tight to the point of requiring force to seperate the neck from the body.

Sound : 9
The only issue I have with the sound was broadly across the midrange - I found that the bass lended itself to a tight slap sound, and while fingerstyle was equally tight and punch, it was somewhat lacking in low-mid 'body' and fullness. This may well be due to the use of walnut alone in the construction.

So, I put an active set of EMG PJ's in it, with vol/vol/tone controls. The EMG's, combined with the hardness and density of the wood = SLAP TONE HEAVEN: Bright, articulate, gorgeous upper mids and chiming highs with enough 'squink' without being piercing or abrasive. The pickup/wood combination also provides a deep and focussed low end and a bit, not a lot, but a bit of low mid growl - especially with the bridge soloed. Not quite as organic sounding or 'nasally' as Wooten's tone but not too disimilar...

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Action can get as low as I'd ever want it without buzz. Neck can go almsot dead straight and stay there for a full cycle of seasons without getting weird on me. Neck profile is fantastic - precision width at the nut but quite shallow and ergonomic, especially below the third fret. Oil finish is smooth and very easy to play. Great neck and suprisingly, no dive.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I cringe at the thought of dropping this instrument - my gut tells me that it would not so much dent as shatter...

Aside from that, no issues...

I love this bass, and it remains my main four string.

Mine is a great story.
I purchased this bass from Guitar Center around 1998...
It was in the "Used" section, and noting there was no price on it, I asked the kid who worked there how much he wanted for it.
The kid looked at it, scratched his head, and said "Hmmm...Dunno...It looks like a Japanese copy of a Fender P-Bass..I'll get the Manager".

Hoping the Manager is as clueless as his kid, I watched with my heart racing as the Manager looked at it, scratched his head, and said it "Looked like a Japanese rip-off of the P-Bass".
He said he would sell it to me for 200 dollars, but there would be no case to go with it.

I told him as calmly as I could that I would buy it.
So I raced to my bank, withdrew the 200 dollars as fast as the ATM would let me, and bought the bass.

This bass is worth well over a thousand dollars.
It was made by Schecter in the early 80's, out of their Califonia shop. It's exactly like the one you saw reviewed above me.
A P-Bass style with combination P-Bass/Jazz Bass configured pick-ups.

It has a sunburst body, Rosewood neck (one piece), and 20 frets.

This is easily the best sounding Bass I have ever owned.
Since I am in a band that plays all types of musical styles, this is also the most versatile Bass I have ever owned. It gets a great round tone for pop and rock, and an incredible sound for slap bass and funk.
It is equally awesome live as on recording.
My only beef is also the humming from the jazz pickup when it is too close to my amp, but that is expected.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Sitting as a used instrument for so long, I assume, I had to have the intonation reset, and the action evened out.The quality of the wood and internal parts are excellent though.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass has toured with me extensively all across the USA for 5 years now. And it has been my rock.
Nothing is wearing down, nothing has shorted out.
Strap buttons have been holding on great as well.
This is a very dependable bass, that I have been using without a back-up until last month, when I bought my Italia Mondial.
But those are both basses I use on specific songs.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Customer Support has naver been an issue, as this bass has never failed me.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been a bassist for over 20 years. I have always played through my old Acoustic Amp, and really have my signature sound down to a "T".
The only question I wished I had asked those two guys at Guitar Center was who trained you Bozos, but their lack of produt knowledge was my gain.
If this bass were lost or stolen, I would cry like a baby.
There is NO WAY I would ever find this bass again, much less for 200 dollars.
I have tried pretty much every bass on the market, and there is no other bass I would trade it for in the world.

Purchased new 1985 Newcastle UK #400 GB, which was heaviliy discounted price due to crack in headstock (which has never moved or caused any problems). Manufactured in USA, but set up by the retailer.

Made of solid Rosewood with Rosewood neck. Satin oiled finish.

Gold plated fittings. Metallic gold stratch plate. Two pickups, P type and jazz type. Coil tap on P type pick up, doesn't actually seem to do much.

Big fender style machines, gold coloured.

It is the most heavy bass I have ever played. Everyone who has played it agrees.

No problems with any features to date.

Sound : 10
It has a very wide range of sound for a passive bass, from very bassy to slap & pull style. The extremely heavy wood gives it a very powerful dark sound with loads of harmonics & infinite sustain.

I use it pretty bassy for blues / RnB mostly plus some jazzy stuff & it gives me the ideal sound. Best sound for me is almost full bass on tone pot, jazz pick up almost rolled off & precision pick up around 80/90%. This gives a bassy but percussive sort of sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
When I got it it was very poorley set up, action and intonation. I had to spend a few hours setting it up. The quality of wood, fittings build etc. was fine though, other than the small crack on the head. The gold finish on the fittings shows some aging, but not much, mainly on the volume knob. The scratch plate has a few scratches but has not tarnished.

In 17 years I've done nothing else to it until last year when I needed to get a new hex bolt on the truss rod as the rod had siezed. I removed the truss rod and blew it out with air & it's been fine ever since.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass is extremly reliable. I have two spare basses, but have never had to use them.

My only worry is that it is so heavy, if I ever dropped it, it would either go through the floor or break into 1,000 pieces.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Retailer was poor, other than being amenable to dropping the price.

Have written to manufacturer for info but no response.

Haven't really needed any support though.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 26 years & own 12 guitars at any time. This is my number 1 bass, though I some times play a litte short scale Aria for fun & ease of transport.

I love the look (dark satin rosewood with gold metallic scratch plate & fittings) & sound of the bass. It is staggeringly heavy though, it needs a very wide strap & you can't move about much when playing it & you can't carry it far by hand.

It doesn't particularly sound like any other bass, probably due to the wood.

I would certainly want another one the same if it were lost or stolen, but I probably couldn't afford it.

The neck is stamped 82, The body is stamped 83. Made in California. She's a four string bass with twenty frets and it has a solid top. The controls are two volumes (which are also push/pull) and one tone control which control the passive Schecter "P" & "J" pickups. The neck is one piece of Birds Eye Maple with the dots on the top of the neck (just to confuse those guitar players who are tring to follow me.I also tune to "D".) I can see why they put the dots there as this is one pretty piece of wood done in a natural finish. The Bass looks like a Fender "P" Bass with a jazz pickup added and the neck has a tele head with a brass nut and Schecter Hardware. It came with two strap holders screwed into the body. (Bass will actually stand up leaning against my amp.) Came with a Fender Case With a metal Schecter sign.

"This Bass Suits me to a "T" 70's, 80's, & 90's Rock, and now mostly Blues. I use a PEAVEY MEGA BASS head, biamping, 212 cab for hi's and a 215 cab loaded with RCF's for the lo's. I come out of my head with a hi and lo send to the board.(wastes another strip on the board, but sound techs like the control.) Using the vol knobs, one can get quite a few different tones( want bassy, turn down the jazz pickup and push in the pots. Want a bright Round Sound But warm also, adjust vol up even and pull the pot on the jazz pickup) The Bass has a Quality "Round" sound that I love, but is Bassy Too. The only thing I don't like is the Jazz pickup is noisy around electrical gear.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Perfect fit and finish!!!!

Reliability/Durability : 10
It has lasted Since 1985 when I bought it brand new in Halifax, NS from its case hidden behind the counter, not hanging up for everyone to handle. The finish on the neck is the same as it was when I bought it. I've only adjusted the truss rod one time(April 2000) 1/2 a turn and she came back perfect. This maybee because I tune to "D" with less strain on the neck. I've owned a Framus, Gibson EB-3, Fender "P" Bass U.S., and the Schecter "PJ" (this is the only Bas I own now)

Customer Support : 1
I wrote them an E-Mail trying to find out about this thing ( Was it a custom order or a special model, etc.) but received no E-Mail back.

I went to the music store to buy a Steinburger but they didn't have one in stock so they pulled this one from behind the counter and I could see quality. I liked the sound unpluged and the quality that Fenders just don't have. I am glad they didn't have any Steinburgers as I like this round sound, not the growel of the Steinburgers
