The neck on this instrument is amazing. Pete is a master craftsman. Plays very smooth and fast. Neck not too thin or thick. Fret work is very good. I can get super low action if I want it. Truss rod works super.
I purchased used and it needed no adjustment when I got it.

Pete's customer service is second to none! Even though I bought used, Pete has taken the time to answer all my questions and he even spent time with me on the phone explaining the details of his pre-amp.
I have no doubt Pete Skjold will take care of me if I ever have an issue.

I play Contemporary Christian, Country Gospel, Blues, Oldies.
This bass can do it all. It has so many tonal possibilities it is amazing !
I can get a nice Fat Deep tone, P-Bass or Jazz tone, and can dial in a very modern tone with great Mid and High presence.
Pickups deliver a very clean transparent sound with no noise.
Neck plays very good, very comfortable to me. Not too thick and not too thin- just right.

Bought used from original 1st owner. Set up was good- no issues.
Adjusted truss rod after installing new strings.
No flaws except for the regular minor dings that come from buying a 2nd hand instrument.

I have gigged several times with this bass and is now my number 1.
I can trust this bass without taking a backup.
Finish is very durable and I get so many compliments on how beautiful it is.
Only adjusted truss rod once when I got it and it has been stable ever since.
Stays in tune quite well.
Did I mention that this bass weights less than 8 lbs?
It balances perfectly as well. No neck dive whatsoever!

I have nothing but praise to Pete Skjold for his top-notch customer service.
I had alot of general questions for him and he always emails me back promptly.
He also took the time to call me on the phone and explain some of the finer points of his preamp for me.
The best customer service I have ever experienced in the industry!

I have been playing bass for over 10 years. I have played all the standard production basses out there.
None of them compare to the build quality and sound versatility of this instrument.
I will definitely be purchasing another in the future.
I definitely recommend any product from Skjold as it will no doubt be of excellent quality.

2006 Skjold Pro Series 5 String that was made in the USA (Texas I believe, although Skjold has now moved to Ohio). It is a fretted bass with Skjold's Offset '92 body design with a solid mahogany body (with beautiful clear finish over it), a 3 piece maple neck and a maple finger board. It's got the amazing Skjold SC-1 split coil pickups (bridge and neck), and the cheaper 2-band Skjold preamp. The controls are volume, bass, treble, and pickup selector (neck pup solo-ed, series, parallel, bridge pup solo-ed). It's got a B-style Hipshot bridge with 18mm string spacing at the bridge, Hipshot tuners, Dunlop dual design strap lock buttons, and a Neutrik Jack (great feature...never get your plug pulled out while playing!). The bass has a 35" scale and has jumbo frets. I bought it used so I'm not sure what it came with when new...I believe Skjold uses Pro-Tec hard/soft cases.

This bass sounds amazing! I play mostly rock and worship music at my church, and it fits the bill perfectly. The warmth of the mahogany with the snap of the maple neck and board give it a very aggressive but smooth sound (also cuts through the mix very well). The electronics are absolutely silent at all settings, and you can get a great amount of versatility out of it by using the pickup selector knob. Select the neck pup only to get more of a P-bass vibe, select the bridge pup for a burpy feel, or switch between series and parallel with both pups. This preamp isn't quite as flexible as the Skjold/East preamp but its still very good. I've haven't recorded with it yet but I would guess it would sound just as good in a live situation as it does on stage. I usually play it through my Mesa Walkabout Scout and it sounds great.

I bought it used, but having had Pete set up a bass for me in the past I'm 100% confident that if bought new it would be set up flawlessly (mine was set up great even though it was used). The neck is very stable and the fit and finish is superb. Everything is easy to adjust though if you ever wanted to make and changes. Zero flaws.

I haven't had the bass THAT long so I can't say for certain, but based on everything I've experienced so far it seems as though the bass will last a very long time without issues. tuners work well, strap locks are great, have never had to adjust the truss rod (even after having it shipped to me from Finland!). The finish is excellent. I never bring a backup (the only reason I could ever see needing one is if a battery dies, but in that case I can just drop in a new one in a minute or 2).

I would give this a 20 if I could. Pete is extremely easy to work with and will go the extra mile for his customers. Having bought 2 of his basses used, he still went above and beyond to help me out with all of my questions, and even set up my other Skjold free of charge when I bought it. Not sure on warranties, but Pete takes GREAT care of the people who play his basses.

I would definitely recommend that anyone who wants a high quality custom bass to look in the direction of Skjold. I've owned LOTS of great basses (Sadowsky, Pedulla, Zon, Spector, Lakland, Warwick, Fender, G&L), and my Skjolds are all I own at the moment. I hope to have one made custom for me at some point. I can't say enough good things about these basses. Grab one before the waiting line gets too long!
