Was not looking for another bass at thr time, just waiting in the music store, and it found me.acoustically it played very well, a good sign.Tight neck joint.then I looked at the price.Plugged it in and was apparent the stock pups are weak,no big deal.So I took it home ,tweaked the truss rod-1/4 turn and voila!super low action, without the typical 12th fret buzz on a lot of J necks.Impressive.I replaced the bridge with a 1/4 pounder Duncan and a Fender stock neck pup.Plugged into my swr 550x-avatar neo 2-12(killer rig)and holy moly,To Die for slap tone.*do not change pots or capacitor-it works!

very good, well above average for the money,My hat's off to Fender for this piece.I wish I had this 20 years ago.remenissant of a 70's Jazz for sure.It was properly assembled.Like any purchase, always check the construction, and the acoustic properties, regardless of price.

Its sturdy and reliable.typical Fender, hopefully the pots last.they are small, and I'm not sure if they are rated at 250,maybe 500, but with my pickups, they murder a wicked funk tone.

I've been a bottom feeder 35 plus years.had many basses, now all Fender stuff.I have a '92 J plus 5,another(if you can find one)killer bass that I should review also.also A Jazz fretless, yada yada.swr and avatar rig.If some lowlife stole It,I'd for sure get another,as I just may,for some more mods.

Jazz bass: 2 volume controls, one tone control, 4 strings, open tuners, alder body, brass string saddles, 2 pick-ups, rosewood fretboard, white body, tortise pick gaurd, thumb rest... Think that about covers it. Oh, it's made in China.

I use it through a SWR working man's combo w/ a 15 in it. It sounds pretty good w/ an over all bright sound. I like it most with both neck and bridge pick-ups on with the tone rolled back about 75%. Makes for a pretty solid low end. The single coils are a little noisey when soloed. Slap tone is pretty typical and acceptable. Strings on it do not seem to dead/bad. I'm not going to judge to harshly b/c new strings would probally make it sound even better. One real sound complaint is that the tone control is a bit "on or off" in function so I may replace the cap or redo the electronics in the future, but no real big deal.

One personal complaint. The thumb rest. Love the look of it, but it kinda gets in the way when slaping. It could easily be removed/moved but it is what it is, and it is in the way.
The strings were a bit high from the factory, lowered them when I got it home. The E string kind of clicked after that, so I had to lower the pickups as well. After that, it was good. The neck has a little foward bow on it(a little more then how I set up my guitars, but seems good for this bass). Frets are good and finished well, and they are on the smaller side. Still getting used to that one. One tiny finish flaw on the neck at the heel, hardly noticeable. Some of the control plate and pickgaurd screws are a bit crooked. Intonation seemed pretty good w/ a quick check.
Overall a pretty sexy looking bass that even a new guy could get set-up pretty good. The few things I did mention are all nit-picking nothing major wrong with this guy at all. But nothing is perfect...

Have no reason to doubt it's integrity. Nothing seems flimsy or loose. Seems solid but only time will tell. Just got it so I can't honestly comment.

Been playing bass/guitar about 15 years, and have owned a few other basses along the way from a stupidly expensive warwick to my first cheepo one that brand was "Saturday Night Special" I saved my grass cutting money for an entire summer to buy that one. Fast forward 15 years and for a hundred dollars more I bought this fancy lady.
After looking on line I had it narrowed down to this madel, the 70's Vintage Custome model with the block inlays, and an Epiphone Thunderbird. The thunderbird was a excelent for low end but was no good for slaping, to dark in my opinion. So it was out on versatility. The 70's one that I tryed had no wood grain in the body, they neck look tacky to me blocks looked funny and the wood finish was almost white. Probally from 15 feet it would look fine, but I would have to look at it close up all the time. So in short, I liked the looks, the sound, and the neck (shape and color - vintage tint) better than anything else I tryed in the store.
I would not recomend anyone buying this bass, as I don't like it when I see other people with the same stuff that I got. I want to be unique like everyone else :-) And if it got stolen it would be ironic b/c this is the replacement for another one that was stolen. I like the bass. It is a good bass. There are many others just like it, but this bass is mine.
Buy one. Just don't let me see you with it.
