I'm pretty sure we all know the basic set-up of a Jazz Bass, but, thankfully, the previous owner of mine saw fit to stick a pair of active EMG pickups on it. The finish is the satin walnut one and it came with barely a mark on it. I'd been looking for a decent recording bass and, thanx to the EMG's, I may well have it.

My bass style is fairly general. I don't get to play it live any more but I had twelve years playing all sorts of styles in a wedding band (still there but now play the keys). I bought this as a recording instrument and haven't yet poked it through my live bass rig yet. However, through the EQ pedal and keyboard amp I keep in the music room, the sound is not too bad at all. Possibly due to the EMGs, the range of sounds is seriously wide, although the the top-end presence is nearly always there

The previous owner obviously looked after this bass - I don't know how much he or she had to do get it playable, but I got it in good nick.

Here's where I'd have to think carefully! I like to think it would be a good backup, and no reason to think it wouldn't last a gig with no problems, but it is fairly light and I'm not sure it would last a whole tour. But then, that's not what I got it for. As usual, I've put strap retainers on it as it's very slightly neck heavy

Been playing bass for 30 years - also own two Music Mans and a very tasty Squier Vintage Modified Fretless Jazz Bass (as well as two others that I'm trying to flog). If this was stolen, I probably wouldn't replace like with like - if I had to have something that gave Jazz Bass tones, I'd probably get a 70s reissue. This is the first bass I've had with EMGs and I'm taken with the sound

I am using this bass primarily for home recording , the original were pretty good but i was offered a set of DiMarzio DP149 Ultra Jazz pick-ups and that made a great difference ! I was surprised to find the original pickups were'nt ceramic magnets .. as is usual fair on this type of instrument . I guess for the most part the original pickups would suit most situations the novice to intermediate player would require .

The set-up straight out of the box was surprisingly unbelievably good ! the truss rod only required the smallest of tweaks ( tighten ) to get it spot on . The frets were installed clean and flush with only a slight mark up around the 12th on the f/board from slipping whilst re-crowning ( that's what it looks like ) , fret ends are nice and smoothe . String height at the nut was cut very close to spec . Intonation was out on all strings , so adjustment needed there . Action was comfortable - 2.5 mm on the E @ the 12th fret and 1.75 mm on the G @ the 12th fret .
The body finish is satin Walnut and seems durable enough and was blemish free from the factory , Chrome plating on the hardware is good and the fit between neck and body is tight with no discernable gaps .

I am amazed at what can be bought these days for such a small dollar outlay , this guitar was on sale for $199 and 10 or so years ago a instrument of this quality would have sold for 600- 800 $ , Reliablty should'nt be a problem for the average player , it's put together tight and with regular maintenance should last many years .

I have been playing for many years , i have been working as a guitar tech professionly for 22 years and my job has taken me around the world . I needed a bass for home recording and needed something just to put a few basslines down , i am totally surprised at what $200 gets you these days , I am primarly a guitarist and most of my guitars are Gibson , Fender , etc I have'nt paid $200 for an instrument since the late 70's and it got you junk back then , different story these days .
If this bass got ripped off from me I'd go buy another no problem !
