Just out the box I would say 2004. What ever people think or have been told Staggs are not from the Far East, etc, etc they are produced in Europe and are classed as a Pan-Europian company.
34" scale, 24 Frets, 4 strings.
Un-named pickups, a nice balanced tone J at the bridge and a balls out P setup at the neck, both with seperate volume contol and a master tone, this is a contol setup I have'nt really seen before but it works well.
Nice double cut away body in black laquer, it looks different, not the usual boring Fender P or J copy that you see all the time now a days. At the rear the control cover plate is nicely recesed, this is a quality item for the cash
P style bridge in black.
Basic die cast tunners in black, they work well, acurate, not sloppy.
1.11/16" Nut 3/4" string spacing at Bridge
Rosewood fingerbaord on a maple neck, nice.
Bridge & Truss rod keys and a lead to get you started.

It has a nice tone to it, you can notice the difference when you turn the knobs, which is important.
Im a beginer but I do use a Zoom 607 it has a tunner built is so it's usfull.
Action, Fit, & Finish

Came out the box in cherry condition, as a learner I dont know much about action etc, but it made a balls out bass sound that I was looking for, so It must have been okay. One problem would be that my bass was fitted with a right hand nut but come one I can over look that.

As a learner as with anything, things will go through a lot of abuse while your learning. For #129 the tunners are quite acurate, and the general setup allows for hours of practice with minimal re-tunning involved. Strap buttons are good although my style of playing means I prefair to just rest the bass on my knee, so I cant be to sure.
Another thing there realy is something to be said for knurled alloy knobs instead of cheap plastic.

I know of the website, any warranty work would be sorted out by the company I bought it from in Glasgow. Warranty 1 Year. In this price range it's all down to the store you use. Keep in mind I have bought a Stagg Srat copy from the same store 2 years ago, no problem with the store, no problem with the Stagg.

This was my first bass, being a lefty it is quite hard to get a quality axe for low cash, I can recomend this and any Stagg to anyone. Low price dos'nt mean low quality it means high value. I use it mainly for learning, the small nut and good string spaceing at the bridge make it an ideal learner bass.
The seperate volume controls allow you to effectivly turn each pickup off which gives a good sonic range.

This is a short update to my previous review. After playing the bass for some time, I'd just like to add a few things.
Stagg have put up a website @ www.staggmusic.com. So you get information about their instruments there. Apart from their products, you don't see much there yet. I guess the site hasn't been up for more than like a week or something. Go figure.
The bass still feels and sounds okay, but the knobs are just crap. One of them turned loose after a few days and another one just gets stuck everytime you turn it. I guess other Stagg users are familiar with that kind of problem (see other reviews). The knobs definitely need to be replaced or repaired or whatever *grumble*.
The pickups are sometimes noisy as hell, so are the knobs actually.
Further, the bass doesn't easily stay in tune. Maybe this is because of the shitty strings or because of the tuners. Dunno, gotta change strings anyway, I'll see then.
Another thing I noticed only after playing the thing for a few hours, is that it's extremely head-heavy. Didn't see that at the first glance.
That's about it. No more ranting ;)

Supposedly from 2002. Stagg seems to be same kind of fake-brand since it's a pain in the ass to get information about these instruments. All I can say is that this bass was most probably built in Indonesia. I bought it on ebay.de just out of couriosity. I've never played a bass before, though I've been playing the guitar for approximately 7 years.
It's a 24 fret fourstring, hardwood body, rosewood neck. J- and P-Bass pickups. 2 x tone, 1 x volume. Passive electronics. Fender-style bridge. Probably Diecast tuners, non-locking. Not too fat neck, jumbo frets.
Black finish. Of course it's not a high-end instrument, so it's not surprising that it ain't superiorly crafted, but it's okay. It's a beginner's bass. Period.
Tools and shitty cable were included. Came in cardboard box.
It has everything a beginner's instrument should have. So I'll give it a five, cos a 10 would suggest that it's a way beyond cool bass which would be misleading for you readers out there.

I play progressive kind of fusion metal. The bass has a certain fusion feel sound-wise. I jammed along some Maiden stuff and it fitted that style quite well. But I guess you could play a variety of styles anyway. It sound good even unplugged. The knobs seem to be a bit noisy sometimes. It's an allround kind of instrument.
I merely use it for homerecording. That's its purpose and I'm satisfied with it so far.
It kind of sucks that you can't easily reach 22nd up to 24th fret on the g-string because of the not-so-cool cutaway.
7 pts. because it doesn't sound bad to my ears. But again: I'm a guitarist and haven't dealt with basses up to now.
Action, Fit, & Finish

The setup was shitty. It came in a cardboard box with UPS and was completely out of tune because of major differences in temperature. Action was way too high, intonation sucked. Pickups aren't well adjusted, but they're okay. Bottom line: Take a screwdriver and adjust action and intonation. It's fine now and it took me about half an hour to set the thing up.
Finish was without major flaws. It wasn't painted that thoroughly et cetera, but I didn't expect that for this price anyway.
2 pts. is fair IMHO. Why? Again: nothing spectacularly wrong, but it's a low-budget bass and that's what you basically get...

I guess that bass can take up some violation. Even on stage. Hardware seems reliable though I am not quite sure about the tuners. Strap buttons go okay. I got the bass only yesterday, so I really can't tell from long-term experience. The things that I'll use it for, it'll have a long life I guess.

There literally is no cusomer's support. The guy I bought it from is an ebay power seller and you even get warranty and money-back guarantee. It's a new instrument and I guess I won't have to deal with any problems as it seems now.

5 pts. is okay for a beginner's bass of that price category. It's cool what you get for the money you pay. For my purposes it works well. For other people it probably won't.
If it was stolen I'd get another one. But I'd save up for a Warwick Streamer if I ever decide to pursue the bass playing thing on a more professional basis. Because right now I'm just playing around with it. And it's certainly not an instrument a pro would use. Period.
