I'm reviewing a Stagg bass, it probably sounds weird but the model nor serial number can be found on the bass, it just says Stagg, but I'll come back on that later. It's a 4 string, 24 fret beginners bass.

Probably made in 2002 or the early 2003s. I heard the Stagg factory is located in Belgium, but I'm not sure. I can't verify either because I can't find anything about this brand.
It's got 24 frets. The body is laminated or (I don't know the English word for it but we call it) multiplex here in Holland (maybe you know what I mean), it's made out of a lot of cheap woods glued together. I verified by opening it up, because I wanted to take a look at the pots too, and let me tell you it's a real mess in there and I'm not only talking about the wood, but the electronics as well, a guitar repairman would charge you about 70 euros to fix it up for you the way it should have been store bought. You can also check by knocking on the wood it sounds a little more hollow than other bass guitars. Two tone knobs one volume knob. The neck is a 5 piece bolt on excuse for unfinished maple if you pay mind to it you can see it isn't maple, it's got a real rosewood fretboard though although it's qualitively bad. A bar-type pu in the bridge, a split pu in the bridge as well as the neck (total of 3) all passive. Finish is one of the only nice things about this guitar it's got this great tabocco burst. Body style is like most Ibanez basses a good example would be the GSR 200, in fact I think it's supposed to be a lame copy of that bass (except for the pu's the Stagg doesn't have visible sensors). Bridge is the B10 type, pretty common bass bridge. Oh don't get me started about the tuners, yes they're also a copy of the GSR 200, but they're so fucking worthless, the bass can't hold it's tune for 30 minutes! The guy at the store offered my friend a cable and a pick included in the price. He had to buy a gig bag seperately.

Sound : 1
Sound? If there weren't any notes you could play it wouldn't even be sound. Another one of the few good things is that the pick ups aren't noisy, as you may have caught up on, the bass sounds like crap. I played it to a great amp though, too good for the bass if you'd ask me. A Vox T-50, it offers a very wide range of classical bass sounds and that's why I like it. I later on used some Boss effects with it (flanger, distortion, chorus, delay, reverb) and it still sounded bad. Overall this bass sounds like your amplifying shit (I am not exadurating, excuse my language though).

Action, Fit, & Finish : 2
The bass was set up very poorly. The action was pretty high, the pick ups were adjusted badly. I didn't adjust anything though I didn't think it was worth it. Unlike most previous complaints the bass didn't have loose tuning pegs or knobs, I guess that was all ok so I'll give it a 2 this time.

Reliability/Durability : 1
I'm absolutely sure it wouldn't stand extensive playing, and it would probably not withstand you, when you'd get fired up during a live gig, it would actually be a joke if you'd ever play it life, I already told you why at Sound. My friend began on it and was extremely careful with it (being his first bass and all), but it got those little dings and scratches.

Customer Support : 1
We never dealt with the company itself, but the guy at the store didn't even know what he was buying from the factory. I asked him a few questions about the woods and he looked at me as if I were asking him something in chinese. He just answered me by telling me it sounded good, well that's big help!

Overall Rating : 1
As you may have guessed the bass isn't mine, but my friend's. He can hardly play bass though, I had to teach him a few tricks. I can slap, pick, fingerpick etc.
If you'd ask me I would tell you to throw in a couple of bucks and buy a Peavey or Ibanez GIO, these are excellent beginner basses and can sometimes go on your professional route as well. They are sold for about 20/30 euros more, but believe me you'll be glad you paid it! If you like the Stagg model this much than buy the original Ibanez GSR200 (Stagg copied it).
I'm mainly a (solo) guitar player, but I play bass and piano too. It wouldn't have any purpose to tell you my gear since it's not bass equipment but mail me if you have any questions about my gear or the Stagg. If you don't believe this review I suggest you try it out yourself, when I play bass I usually try out some Cliff Burton and that ain't your regular shit.

I don't know what year this bass was made, probably 2002, because they sell these basses a lot. It's a 4 string beginnersbass and has a very light body, which is very handy for a beginner, the manufacturer says it has 1 volume knob, and 2 tone knobs, one for the j-pick up and one for the p-pick up. Well there wrong, it actually has 1 tone knob and 2 volume knob, one for every pickup. It's a passive bass and you can here that rather well, it doesn't have a wide variety of sounds to come out of your amp. The whole bass (meaning, all the woden parts) is made from hardwood. Mine is painted in gothic black. The body is made in the ibanez-style and the snares are close to each other so that's easy when your a beginner and you're just getting started, it's a bit more difficault if you want to slap and pop.

Sound : 4
It doesn't have any attack, but it sounds like a bass. If you have a nice amp you can make it sound a lot better. But it remains a cheap bass, it's made out of cheap wood, it has cheap snares en cheap pickups so basically doesn't sound that great. If you're a beginner you don't notice that, you're just hypnoticed by the fact that this is your first bass. but a year or so, you get to notice, and than you want to buy a new one. So for all you beginners out there, save some more money and buy a slightly more expensive bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
When I first got it, I came to notice that I had to make a few adjustments. The bridge had to be toyed with and I had to adjust the neck. Later on I saw that the frets where a little rusty, so I had to fix that to. Besides that there were no problems, the knobs are still on it after playing a year, but the paint is fading at a couple of places.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I think it would withstand live playing, but you'd have to buy better strings and if you have the money you can better buy a new bass, cause the sound of this one doesn't actuelly fit any style, especially live. You would be a joke if you played this bass live, it just isn't good enough.

Besides a couple of rusty spots and some paint coming lose(only on the metal plate on the back of the bass) the bass itself is reliabel, it surprises me that i only have one dent on it, and that the paint isn't coming of where I touch the body with my nails, while i'm slapping.

Customer Support : 10
The store I bought it at, is my favorite store, very nice people, good service, always helpfull and they don't sell total crap. They honestly said to me that the bass I was buying is a beginnersbass and that after a while i would think less of it and i had to buy an other bass to satisfy my needs. So that's what I did.

Overall Rating : 6
I've been playing the stagg bc300 for almost a year know, and in that year it was a nice bass. If I would have written this review when I had the stagg for a few days, i would rate it a 10 on every subject. But now, it just isn't good enough for me anymore. But if you just want to find out if playing the bass is your thing, this bass is absolutley nice and when you find out that playing the bass is your thing, than you must agree with me on all the subjects.

This is a 24 fret begginer bass.mine is violet but i believe they come in black and natural as well. You got 1 volume and 2 tone seletors.(kept falling off mind you)

Sound : 9
It sounds pretty good and you get a nice varied sound.
I use it with a little peavy microbass and it goes well.It dont like buzz or his noisely

Action, Fit, & Finish : 2
I dunno who the hell works at that factory but whoever put this bass together needs to be sacked!
1.Knobs fell off
2.Jack Socket screw had to be tightend
3.Thingys you put your stap on are loose
4.e-string too low down
5.Had to adjust the bridge
6.Neck had to be adjusted

Reliability/Durability : 8
It may have been put together bad but it is very durable.I have had mine for 6 months now and apart from a few scratches its mint.

Customer Support : 8
Yeah its good customer support actually.I got this thing repaired a few times and apart from taking ridicuously long(ok ok that was the music stores fault)its came back good.

Overall Rating : 7
If it wasnt for that great price i would give it a 5.However this has got to be the best beginer bass i have ever come across!I mean your normal #149 bass would have 2 pickups(its got 3)1 tone and 1 volume(2 tone 1 volume) and cheap little easy break strings(6 months and i never changed them!)
Great bass for the money!
If it was lost or stolen i wouldnt buy it agin though.I would probbly save a little extra and add it to the insurance payout and get a 5-string.

Chinese ( I think ) 24 fret, natural unvarnished wood (pale, no idea what it is), I bar & 1 split p/u, They must be humbucked as I am not picking any buzz up in our rehearsal room wheras the fenders do, passive, fender stlye bridge.

Sound : 9
Growling midrange solid bottom & distinct highs I played 3 of these and they were surprisingly different.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 4
pretty poor, the materials and the quality of components is very good indeed but they have been thrown together. Nothing a couple of hours on the workbench wont cure. Finish is fine.

Reliability/Durability : 8
seems fine to me

dont know yet

Playing for 30 years on and off, My main bass is a Musicman stingray fretless & I needed a fretted bass, this was just too good to pass up at the price. I would definately reccommend and buy again if it was stolen because it has the sort of quality of a much more expensive instrument. with a little love and care this will last me a long time. I love it, why pay #1000 for another Musicman when I can get this for #139.
