Features : 10
Bought in 1989, brand new, made in USA. 24 frets, 4 strings, rock maple body, graphite neck, active eq, EMG pickups, volume-balance-bass boost/treble boost. Black finish, headless, mini-vee body shape, flip out leg rest, black pickguard, gig bag, bridge tool, stickers, strap & cable included.

Sound : 10
This bass looks kinda 80's, but this is my own personal HOLY GRAIL OF BASSES! I used to play it through a hartke 350 head & the graphic eq was always set FLAT! That's how perfect this bass is. Bright, deep, warm, throaty, it's all in there. The active eq is quite useful and versatile. I used to play in a very loud situation and this thing is so quiet that sometimes I had to tap a string just to make sure my volume was up. It was.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Set up perfectly from the factory, I monkeyed with the pickup height to suit my own sick tastes. Construction was perfect. Over the years (and considering the abuse I've put this thing through) I've had to replace a few string claws. Sometimes at the end of a show I'd throw it down, kick it across the stage & then beat it furiously with my strap. Steinberger has made a fine instrument!

Reliability/Durability : 10
See previous comments. Neck has no truss rod, needs no truss rod, and no need for a backup bass (even with my abuse).

Customer Support : 10
Every time I've dealt with Steinberger (5 or 6 times), they've been exceptionally gracious and helpful. I don't care to mess with Gibson, though.

Overall Rating : 10
This has been my main workhorse bass since July of 1989. I've tried almost every other kind of bass (even other Steinbergers) and no other bass comes close. This bass is part of me. Irreplaceable. When I die, this bass comes with me!
