Mahogany back and sides, rosewood fingerboard, spruce top. Just like a great acoustic should be, just now as a bass. To keep cost low, there is not much eye candy

unplugged-although there is not an ABG that will keep up with a true standup, this and Martins, (and some other 1500+ axs) will do while jamming on the front porch with other acoustics. Note: some acoustic basses you have to slap and pop to get an audible acoustic tone, not this. When you get a clean pluck, the whole thing resonates, and that beautiful tone starts singing
plugged-fishman prefix plus- haven't played it extensively, but it sounds real good.....
I give it a 9, only cause there may exists an ABG that is louder acoustically, but I haven't seen it (not including double basses)

Some say it feels flimsy. The thing is real light, and resonates like mad. I don't think it is flimsy at all, but it is delicate, and should be treated like a 2 grand + ax. A careful player will take this ax the distance, an idiot will probably crack it within a year

I have been through fender (not a bad one for under a grand, but I needed a 5 string, and this does blow it away), Dean, Washburn, Dillon, Oscar Schmidt. Guild comes close. I played a Martin about 2 years ago, and remeber having that feeling I have right now. (This is a NICE acoustic bass). I jammed with a banjo and guitar, and they can finally hear me. I got to put it to the true test (bunch of friends playing bluegrass, but I got confidence)
So let me ask you a question, why would you pay more? Unless you are thinking of the 4-600 range (I would go fender, possibly oscar scmidt) this is about as good as it gets.
ABG not considered cause they can't be used purely acoustically-Godin, Rick Turner (nice!), Rob Allen.......
