Japanese 1964 Corbin Essex Style Bass Guitar with 3 cheapo pickups. Got at pawn and have put a Fender jazz neck on it. I also added EMG pickups, locking tuners. I like the body shape and the red color. It's light weight is nice too

Distinctive in shape and electronics setup. I've bastardized it now but I still like the looks

This Bass was made in Japan in 1965 and has a standard 21 fret neck. The body is laminated with sort of a P-bass shape. It has 3 single coil pickups with rocker type off and on switches. It's one volume and 3 tone knobs add a lot of variables to the sound selection. The tuners are cheap wormgear type and don't hold too well. The bass came with a chipboard case and strap. The finish is deep red with natural headstock and neck. fingerboard is maple. Bridge is tailpiece with cover.

Sound : 8
This bass has very little noise for a cheap single coil pickup guitar. The neck pickup is very warm and was used on a CD very recently to capture that distinctive sound that it has. The bridge pickup sounds good if you trim the hi-end on your amp, sort of Tim Castor bass sound. I never have used the middle pickp alone before but its just sort of non=descript as you might imagine.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
The Action on this old bass has always been high. I've never been able to adjust it down without getting a lot of fret noise. I keep about a half inch at the 12th fret to keep the fret buzz down. I think the neck is a little warped and will not set up completely right. The paint job is nice though and looks like a very hi-priced guitar.

Reliability/Durability : 3
I use this even after the purchase of many other basses but I would not have it as my only axe.

I bought this in 1966 and still own it if that says anything.
