Mine is a 69' made in japan. The electronics are cool mine has 1 volume knobs 2 pickup on and offs and a TONE SWTICH. I love the sound that comes out of the the carven style pickups.

The sound is perfect. I use rotosound flatwounds. When my band recorded in the studio last summer I used this bass on almost every track. If you want to hear go to www.myspace.com/outoftheirdinarydallas and listen to love me 2X. The amps I use with it are a mid 70's acoustic 470 bass head, A 90's Gallien Kreuger 400RB, and a 70's Sound City Bass 150. mY MAIN AMP MY SOUND CITY is 150 tube watts and the bass makes barley any buzz or hum. if you get right in front of my ampeg 1X15 cab you get a little feedback.

I have worn this bass down on a couple parts. the only 2 things aboout the finish is that there are alot of hairline cracks and the binding is becoming unattached.

It is very reliable. The tuners are the only thing that might not last. The finish will wear off. I would use it without a backup.

I have a 60's Danelectro Longhorn, a 70's Univox Hi-Flyer, a 50's upright bass, and a 70's Defil hollowbody. The univox doesn't play the best but it sounds the best in the studio. If it was stolen I would buy another.

I just purchased a Univox Lectra bass guitar and it is great. It is a 1969 made in Japan "Beatle Bass" and is very light weight and fast.

I used to play bass in the 70's and i picked it up again about a year and a half ago. This is very similar to one of my 70's basses and i really enjoy it. I love my Les Paul but it is so heavy it hurts my back.

This Univox was first bass. Mine is a real rarity. It's headstock is sorta like a Hofner, but it is more sharp in shape. The body isn't one of those goofy brown violin violin basses with the one Gibson style pick-up and a Fender P-Bass style bridge, oh no. This bass looks almost exactly like McCartney's. The body looks like a double bass (which is what McCartney's looked like). The neck and body are maple. The pick-ups are what piss me off though. They look like bass versions of a Fender Stratocaster Pick-up with chrome surroundings. And to make matters worse, the bridge pick-up (which is supposed to be BY THE BRIDGE) is right in the middle of the neck and the bridge. It looks so goofy, it can't even be passed off as a Cavern Model. But what's really cool is, there are no F-Holes. Most goofy-ass Jap copies are made with F-Holes. A few things are exact to a Hofner on this Univox, like the switchplate. It's design and functions are the exact same as a Hofner. As for one more inaccuracy, the neck is a bolt-on. Hofners were set-in. As some of you might say, whoopty-shit. I am now currently modifying this bass. I have stripped it of it's finish and and everything else. As for the hole where the infamous "bridge" pick-up once stood, I shall be covering that up with some wood. As for the Strat style pick-ups, I will be taking them off for good. In their place I will use large bass humbuckers, and the bridge pick-up with go where it should. As for the finish, I will put a vintage brown sunburst on, just like McCartney's.

This bass has the greatest bass sound in the world. That is of course if you put on ribbon-wound strings. If you do so, this bass will sound exactly like a stand up bass, so for all you jazz bassists who wanna buy a stand-up for close to $2,000, pull out a flat $300 and pick up one of these fine basses.

Well, this category is hard for me to rate. I got this bass on eBay. It is over 30 years old. I've had this bass for 2 years and just 2 weeks ago, I noticed the truss rod nut had been broken off. I guess the owner didn't know how treat a fine intrument. The action has been serving me well for 2 years. The finish I could not stand. It goes from Black to Red then to piss Yellow. If you want to make a Hofner copy look right, any idiot knows the finish should be Red Mahogany to Cherry.

This bass will withstand live playing to an extent of 50 years in my opinion. The hardware is allright. I've banged the tuners a few times and the heads wobble a bit but have stayed on for 1 year and 3 quarters. The finish sucked, let's leave it at that. Of course the strap buttons are solid! When was the last time you say a hollow strap button????? Hell yeah I can depend on it! Well, I've never adjusted my truss rod, because as I mentioned before, the nut was broken off. I have used this bass without back-up fot 2 years, and judging by the recent restoration/modification, I don't think I'll ever need a back-up.

My 'Lectra is a late 60's early 70's model with the univox sticker. It is a laminate, and has had the bottom broken, which is replaced in the woodshop. The body is fragile. There is one pickup and an adjustable bridge. This is the Paul McCartney style bass, and sounds rich and warm.

I am a heavy rock bassist, along the genre of Geddy Lee. The big frets bug me, but it is easy to play and has a good sound. I would not use it on stage, but is strictly a studio instrument. Not much sound variety built in.

The action is adjustable with string height adjusters. The wood is a hardwood, and has become brittle with age. The pickup is noisy if you hit it.

No live playing. It is lasted 30 years so far. The strap buttons could be ripped off with a jackhammer. The neck is bolt on. The finish is pretty good, and has withstood a great deal, including a nasty fall which busted the wood at the bottom.

I suck as a bassist. I am a classically trained tubist and pianist. This plays as well as some Fenders I have used, but my preference is the fretless. I am not partial to this particular bass, but it is functional. It could use some additional features, though.

This bass was made by Univox sometime in the 60's (this is evident due to the presence of a nailed-on plastic univox logo) and a hollowbody laminate. the pickups are stocks, S/S. It has 3 on/off switches (like on Fender mustangs) for pickup configuration, although two quit working from time to time(?!) not sure what it is made of. The body style is what most would refer to as "The Paul McCartney" style, more formally known as the "Viola". it has an adjustable bridge, wooden. It has a wide neck, the fingerboard is rosewood, and it has jumbo frets.

This bass does not suit the music i play in appearance, but the sound is quite fitting. The single coil pickups have a very full and warm, with some higher end punch to them, although they buzz if you brush against them. This most likely could be fixed with a groundwire of some sort. I would say that this bass is more of a studio guitar, because while it has a very nice "live" kind of sound, it's body is quite fragile. however... dont turn the tone all the way up. i dont know if its an established behavior for all Univox Lectras, but mine, when turned all the way up, crackles loudly.

When i first got this bass, the previous owner had turned the action so high that the strings must have been lifted about a full cm from the fingerboard. But with (much) lowering, the bass became very easy to play, and fit my playing like a glove. The finish is heavily cracked, but only the clear varnish. this could easily be sanded off and redone.

This thing COULD withstand live playing, but i dont recommend it. Given the hollow lightweight (and thinly-laminated) body, one drop to the floor would tragically end the life of a very useful guitar. the finish is pretty poor as is, and can only get worse... the strap buttons are rock solid, i wont have to replace them for many decades to come. i CAN depend on it, it holds its own quite well, but not when it comes to physical abuse. and if i ever WERE to tour with this thing, it WOULD be the backup.

I love this bass. I payed 150 for something i wouldve given 400 for, given the quality of its sound. i would DEFINITELY rebuy this bass if it were stolen, given i could find another one like it. i compared the sound of it to an epi viola bass, and it matched it in all ways possible, and it was MUCH cheaper and the body wasnt so darned heavy. i would recommend this to other bassists, as a studio goody only though, i think.
