Vaccaro X-Ray Bass (Japanese Made)
4-String, 21 Frets, bolt-on neck
Sparkle Finish
P/J pickup configuration with Passive electronics
Neck is aluminum-core with maple back and rosewood fretboard
Not lots of features, but I'm not really a fan of basses with all kinds of crazy tone controls.
Sound

The bass sounds EXTREMELY punchy due to it's aluminum neck, and it sustains for days.
Played conservatively, it give that familiar passive bass sound, but dig in and it roars.
I've used it DI for recording, where its clarity really shows through, as well as through an Ampeg SVT with 8x10.
Pickups are stock Vaccaros. They're quiet and sound great.
I'm not crazy about the shape, but it gets a lot of comments.

It's well built. Needed a setup when I got it, but it's fine now.
There were a couple of high frets; nothing bad, but worth looking out for.
Reliability/Durability

The fit and finish seem great. And with a solid metal neck, I'm pretty sure it would withstand a good drop (though I've never dropped mine).
Customer Support
:
No Opinion
I got it used, so I can't say about warranty or the Company, except to say that they aren't making guitars anymore! I heard rumor that they're starting the company back up, but who knows...
Overall Rating

Overall rating, I'd say if you can find one of these gems, BUY IT.
Aside from the fact that they sound amazing, they fetch a lot of comments and questions (and who doesn't love talking about their guitars?)
They're fairly rare, but they do pop up on eBay from time to time.
