I got this bass a couple of years ago from my dad. he bought it in 82. It has 20 frets. i havent done anything to this baby coz its pretty sweet. cept i wish the tone control did more than just put the volume up a tad. These are the best damn tuners you could ever have. after moving around in its case from place to place it still stays perfectly in tune.

This is a nice blues and rock sound. it would be better if i could get it louder. you need a high wattage amp to get it sounding good. If you hook it up to a P.A it sounds sweet.

this bass is 24 years old. and it is still shining. i dont know what the manufacturers did to do that, but its so damn nice. it has never been polished or anything since it was made. the guys must have put on tonnes of polish.

THIS BASS CAN WITHSTAND ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING!!!!! i have dropped this bass many times (not intentionally, just from dodgy straps), and it hasnt even made a mark. Its a beast, extremely heavy, but i love it. when i look at other bass's in the stores i just pick em up and go nuh. im so used to it now. i reckon you need it to be big, it feels like your in control.

Early 90's model; all black body with a maple neck. 19 frets, passive pickups. This is the bass I used to teach myself to play, but aside from sentimental attachment, I have to admit this bass has very little going for it. There is only a tone control (which basically does nothing but give you a slight volume/mid boost if you crank from 0-10) and a volume knob.

First of all, I have to say that the output of this bass is laughable. Unless you've got the Bigest Mama of Big Mama amps behind you, there's only so far you can go with this bad boy. I would never consider using this instrument for a gig, let alone recording. The sound is painfully flat and thin, which means if you're a Country player this is the bass for you! On the plus side, very little feedback noise.

I bought it umpteenth-hand so I have no idea what it looked like coming out of the factory. After a month or two of play the bridge went totally whack on me and I couldn't get decent intonation or pitch past the 12th fret. Plus the nut was worn down to the bare bottom, so I got a really irritating fret buzzing every time I plucked the A-string. The volume and tone knobs, however, are some of the easiest and most ergonomically positioned I've worked with.

Aside from the aforementioned problems (probably attributable to misuse at the hands of former owners) this thing is pretty hardcore. For one, it's the HEAVIEST GODDAMN BASS I've ever laid hands on. Think of having your Fender Rhodes on a strap onstage. On the plus side, it will unquestionably outlive you and the 3-4 guys you could easily bludgeon to death with it in a single sitting. The U.S. military ought to stop shipping out troops with that whimpy M-16 assault rifle nonsense and just equip the boys with the Vantage Avenger. They'd be on their way home from Iraq already. No doubt.

Like I said, this was my first bass. It's like a little sister but, other than practice or stripping the frets to learn to play fretless, there's really no reason to purchase this bass. The closest comparison would be to on of the lamest Squire or Peavy replica you've ever tried. 'Cept the knobs. Those are hella tight.

I saw this Transparent Red Avenger bass new in a store called "Bandala" music in Sania Ontario Canada when I was about 12 years old,, I would estimate it was around 1980,, and I begged my mother to buy it for me for Christmas. She Did!
It is the regular fretted model, still with stock pickups, but I replaced the ugly brass bridge with a "Badass" bridge about 2 days after I got in for Christmas.

I have been playing Bass for 30 years now professionally, and I still always go back to my Vantage. I get ridiculed by my peers, but it's just the nicest sounding & playing bass I've ever owned. I use it 100% for all studio work, and most of the time live. I've owned & sold the best,, but I will never part with this bass.... ever!!

I shimmed the neck over 25 years agoi & have never needed to adjust the rod or neck since. It has the lowest action that I have ever seen on a bass (which is what I like the most about it). The finish is beautiful, although mine now has some pic wear above the pickups. The neck is sleek & easy to wrap my hand around. It's NOT head heavy. This bass is like a sexy girl!, I almost get arroused looking at her & playing her because she's so sexy!! hehehehehehe

The bass is built like a tank. I've beaten the crap out of it, and it's still in almost imaculate shape. The finish is extremely thick,, in fact,, the neck shows no wear!. I did replace the strap knobs because I wanted lockers on it.

I'm happy to say that I've never needed to have it loked at for any reason,, in fact,, I'm looking for another one is similar condition (near mint & transparent Red) possible the fretless brother. & a matching 6 string guitar.

I also own a EB-O bass, and a 1965 Hofner bass. A Zakk Wylde Les Paul, BC Rich Warlock, Paul Stanley Sovergn, and Paul Stanley Apocalypse. Marshall full stack, and a Yorkville 200 Bass amp.
If my Vantage was ever stolen,, I would never be the same again until it was recovered. Not only is it the nicest Bass that I have ever played & continue playing,, but it has semed to be with me for my entire adult life! It's like my mistress! She the only girl that I love as much as my wife! hehehe

I bought it from a friend for 50$(!!!) and he said that he had also bought it from someone else so I really don't know what is the age of this guitar. What I do know that it was made in Japan and her (I like to refer to the guitar as "her") seriel number is I500764. She has passive electronics and 19 frets. She has black finish and a maple neck (although i'm not so sure about the neck- it has very bright brown clour). She has 4 strings with two controls (tone and volume) and a double pickups of unknown origin (they have the Greek letter Omega on them- does it means anything to anyone?).

Well, I play almost anything on my Avenger- from jazz to pop to rock to heavy metal to punk- you name it, I play it.
It sounds not bad on most of the style (and really not bad on the ounk and rock/metal sections) but lacks a bit on the jazz part. I used to own an original American 1974 Fender P that sounded much betterwith jazz but the avenger is much (much) better on every other style. I'm using a Peavy amp that does not seem to totaly feet with the guitar but still works very well. If you set the tone to be even a little bright it starts to make strange noises (although it happens only on my amp, on other amps it works fine). The sounds goes all the way from deep jazzy sound, through Metallica sound to punk'ish sound and handles all of them pretty well. I never recorded with it but I used it on stage in most of my shows and she did the job well.
All in all- although the sound could be better, for the price I paid for her she is great. She also sounds pretty good with slapping.

When I bought it I needed to thighten one of the screws (the strap screw) and the tone controler is a bit loose (I really think it was the previous owner fault, though) but besides that she is great.

I don't know how old is she but she looks great and fresh (and i'm pretty sure she looks younger than she really is). The finish holds on great and besides a scratch here and there she looks wonderful.
I never kept a backup guitar while on stage and never needed one.

I have been playing this guitar for about 8 months now and I enjoy every second of it?
I am pretty sure that if I will lose it I will sit down and cry for the loss of such great guitar (and after that I will try to get another one).
She is the first musical instrument I have ever bought and you bet I won't sell it. I have also played J and P Fender and a Silverhead and none and felt as good as this one (aslthough I must admit that the Fenders had a better sound). She is also really light (unlike the heavy-weight Fenders and Silverhead). The only guitar that challenges this one for me is the "Warwick Fortress One".
Buy it and I can tell you now- you won't regret it later.

I bought this guitar in either 1993 or 1994 for $70 and it was used when I got it. Over the last 10 years, its been abused and been put through more hell than one could possibly imagine. Granted, it has a neck like a split log and it weighs a ton. But, its virtually indestructible and will never leave my collection. Besides, it has a unique sound I've never gotten out of another bass.

I purchased my bass in 1987, but it was already several years old then. Made in Japan. Series number 3110005. Has 20 frets and 4 strings in standard tuning. Maple neck with black dots. Transparent finish in candy apple red, very nice colour. Controls: volume, tone. Active electronics and EMG pickups (though I don't know if it has been upgraded by its previous owner). Taylormade case included.

The bass sounds very good with most equipment, it produces a warm and dark tone. I'd use my strings very long as I don't like the metallic sound of all new strings, and they sound great with this bass for months, even years. In particular, live sound engineers are generally very pleasantly surprised with the sound.

Made sometime in 1982 or 83 I remeber the fretless wasn't out yet, this one has the standard maple neck with frets and dot inlays. Laminated transparent blue (dark) still almost twenty years old and indestructible. I bought it new back then and the first thing I did was put in a set of dimarzio pickups (p bass style), the stock pickups were flat and then broke a week later. It does need an eq to help with the tone, I like it bright. I believe the body is probably ash. The hardware is standad yamaha stye, brass bridge and the neck is medium to thin in thickness (at that time, thats why i bought it)
Still love it still plays well.

Neck and truss rod are well built.
