Probably 1982. Features long scale neck, split EMP pickups, active EQ, and Brass Mass BadAss bridge. Came with original hardshell case. Heavy weight, but that's what they thought a bass had to have to deliver sustain and tone.

A bit heavy, but I love the sound, Intonation is adjustable, and I set the neck relief for lower action. Records big and fat, and plays like thunder.
Since there's only one split pickup, not a lot of variety there. Tone control is nice and extreme, though.

Natural wood finish, like maple with stripes of walnut, so it matches well to my Mapleglo Rickenbacker 12.
Kind of a matte finish. I may varnish it up. A classy look overall.
Action was tough, but adjusted nicely now.

It's held up this long. Once I changed the battery, hiss when to zero and the volume came up.
Everything on this is rock solid. Other players online say this is their favorite--they play it more than other expensive basses they own. Nice bargain--if you can find one, grab it!

The only thing I'd do to this is carve out the body from the back to lighten the load. I'm getting a stretchy Planet Waves strap, nice and wide, to handle the weight better.
A second pickup would be nice, but not needed. I like a fat, rich, heavy bass sound, like Roy Wood got on his records with The Move. This has it. Real '80's L.A. sound, like the bass parts on Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne records.
