This bass has one pick-up and one tone and volume knob. It is made of a light-weight wood, with a cheap finish, not too glossy. There is a white trimming around the outside of the neck, which I haven't seen with others I have looked at on ebay. The It is a beginners bass, and was pretty cheap, the components are cheap, however, it is a really good instrument.

Sound : 10
I bought this on ebay and the seller never mentioned that the tone knob is broken, so it has one sound, kind of a drag, however, that one sound is mmmm-mmmm good. Actually, it is quite amazing, at first I was surprised that it sounded so good, I looked for out of tune spots and buzzes on the neck, and found none. The tunners buzz a bit, but can be tightened. This is the first bass I have owned, I own 13 guitars, from vintage to new, so I know the feel of a good instrument. I went to guitar center and played basses from 200. to 1200, and this bass competes well with the 800. dollar range instruments. Full rich sound, very responsive neck.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
This is where it really excels. This bass must have been made by a anal Japanese craftsman trying to prove a point, that they are better than the Americans. It is one of the easiest basses I have played. Action superb. My 12 and 10 year old sons can play this with ease.
I love playing it, fingers glide up the neck. I am not sure all the Venturas will be so well made, I am curious though. I try to buy vintage instruments since i believe that workers cared more about the result of their labors back then, this was made by someone who cared.

Reliability/Durability : 8
THe components seem cheap, but this was advertised as a vintage 1960's make, which I believe, and it has lasted this long.

I think this was made in the 70's or something. No idea where.

4 strings (I keep it in C-F-B-E and use a digitech metal zone pedal for an awesome sound even though it is a jazz bass) Not sure how many frets, maybe 20.

its got 1 volume and 1 tone knob, a single humbucker, and maybe an ebony fretboard.

I dont know much about this bass cause i think it was discontinued.

Sound : 10
Nice, warm sound. I love the mix of jazz and metal in my band. I like it best on stage, but the cable always pops out of the input on the bass. I just duct tape it down.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Everything about this bass is wonderful. Except 4 the popping out of the cable.

Reliability/Durability : 10
Dang this bass is rock-f**king solid. I've dorpped it like a thousand times and it still puts out like its brand new!

I love my bass. I love it so much, I'll say it again...I love this bass. I just wish it had more crunch.

I recently purchased this 69 Ventura SG copy on E-bay. It is a short scale bass with a single Gibson EB style pickup. I have replaced the nut, volume and tone knobs and added chrome tuners otherwise all original parts. The burgandy burst finish has seen better days but this is the only flaw. Original hardshell case was included.

I play in a classic/modern/original rock band and this bass fits the style of music well. I use a line 6 bass pod direct with dual outputs-one modeled and one direct to the mixer panned hard left hard right. This bass has a distinct sound as compared with others through the same setup. I have also used this bass and setup to record. It has a deep full sound. I agree with others who have written reviews on this bass. I originally planned to use this as a second bass for drop d tunings while gigging but it has quickly become my bass of choice.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
The action on this is great. The finish has seen better days as I said before. Other than that, this bass is a champ onstage and off!

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass has performed great live. Very reliable. The original tuners and knobs are cheesy but I have replaced these with SG knobs and chrome tuners. The original nut had to be replaced also. The original strap buttons have been replaced with Dunlop strap-locks. I have used this on two occasions without a backup and had no problems getting through the night. I was lucky that this bass was made with wood as opposed to the synthetic material that was used on later models. Also has fully adjustable bridge which if set correctly tends to take the buzzes out!

NO support for this model but replacement parts can be obtained at almost any music store.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing bass since the early 90's. If this bass were lost or stolen I would not hesitate to buy another if I could even find one. I love the tone of this bass and have always loved the look and feel of early vintage basses. My advise is if you are looking for an inexpensive bass for a second or you are just getting started and not looking to spend a fortune, this bass is for you.

I have no idea what year this bass was made. All I know for sure is that I was looking for a short scale sg style bass when I found this one on consignment in a local music store. Its just what I wanted and is still my favorite bass. It has twenty frets and I have no idea what kind of wood it's made of because it's paintjob (which appears to be an amateur refinish job) is an extremely thick green color. It has one tone and one volume knob that control one gibson eb-bass style pickup that puts out mucho basso. The neck has been stipped of it's finish and the wood of the three piece neck feels wonderful on my hand. The tuners are a no name but reliable set. The neck is short scale and the action is great. If you find another one (I sure can't find one!) and you need a bass to play and not to collect for value then this is the one.

Sound : 8
I keep it tuned B-E-A-D and the frets have a little buzz to them but it sounds like a stand up bass. I don't currently have a bass amp but I plan to get one sometime... no rush.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Everything action-wise is wonderful, as I said above just little fret buzz, which although normally isn't desirable, surprisingly sounds good on this bass because it is for the most part evenly worn.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I think you could drop this bass a hundred times and as long as you didn't break the neck it would put out like a $20 whore. I would never doubt the reliablity of this one.

Customer Support : No Opinion
NO repairs or mods by me since I've owned it.

I've played guitar since 95 but I bought this bass in 98. I have too many guitars to list, but I have another bass which is an Epiphone EB-1 reissue. It sounds great and is sturdy and well made but being accustomed to the short scale Ventura it is a different experience playing the Epi. If it was stolen I'd be mad as hell but I've got a back-up. I've never played an authentic Gibson SG bass but it couldn't be more comfortable, sound, or play any better than this. I the color and paint job wasn't so damned ugly and amateur I'd give it a ten.
