Run of the mill (for a Wal):
4-string fretless, small markers on the side of the neck, fret markers.
Body Made of heavy laminated (light brown) wood with a very nice and durable transparent finish.
Black plastic pickguard with two humbuckers.
Knobs - Master volume, two volume, two tone. And they go to 11 (no kidding)
A little switch for each pickup (should be series/parallel, is gorgeus/wow).
Pickup selector.
Passive electronics (I think... must be solar powered though then... I haven't had to change any batteries yet), one mono jack output.
No spots of bad workmanship or skimping.

You can make your Mick Karn thing, if you want (he'd probably advise you to try playing something of your own instead).
I use it for home recording, so I haven't tried it much with amps. I wouldn't worry if I had to though. It can do anything.
Otherwise, I find it sounds very good when DI'd with no additional processing. A (real bassist) friend watched in awe when I showed him my bass over the studio monitors. He had a hard time accepting there was no compressors/limiters or EQ on.
If they made good studio fretless bass sound on a tin, it would be labelled Wal.

I bought it used, but it is rather old and still in very good shape.

If I lost it, I'd definitely get another one if I could afford it. If it got stolen, I'd hunt the %?% down and shoot him like a dog. Twice.
