1998 Dolphin Pro1-5 String - 26 Frets - Exotic Woods - 7 Piece Neck - MEC Electronics - This is an amazing bass!!! The best I have played -

Sound : 10
Extremely versatile tonal range - clear and clean - sounds great thru big rigs as well as small combo's - I love it in the studio - It's great live too but I worry about it getting damaged ???

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Great action and playability - Low with no buzz or fretting out anywhere - Pretty much flawless!

Reliability/Durability : 10
Great great great - The only thing is I worry about someone else damaging it onstage - this thing is rock solid though!

Customer Support : 10

I have not had any repairs done on this bass at all... I have had to order a few parts for another bass from them and it was a breeze.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing bass for 20 plus years.
I own about 15 basses right now - and this is my fave of them all! I play Ampeg 4, 5, and 6 Pro amps.
If this bass was destroyed or stolen I would get another with no question!
I love everything about this bass, I can find no faults with it at all!

I lucked out...not only is this bass already one of Warwick's top models, but mine was a custom shop! It has a solid birdseye maple body (which i've never seen before on a dolphin...), with a 7 piece ovangkol/flamed maple neck-through body. The fretboard is wenge and has the standard bell brass frets. 26 of them. Recessed strap-locks. MEC gold pickups (J and twin-J) with an onboard MEC pre-amp. Stacked volume-blend with pull passwive and treble-bass with pull coil tap controls. Dolphin inlay's and Red LED side marker's (bad ass!). The only problem was that the guy I purchased it from didn't have the original case, so I will be purchasing a custom flight case soon.

About the best sounding instrument I've touched. I've owned two Warwick Corvette's, which are also amazing, but they don't come close. This is so meaty, but with a defined almost hi-fi tone due to the maple body. I believe that Stefan Lessard of the DMB used to play a four-string maple dolphin before he played Modulus, which would make him the only other owner of a maple one that I am aware of. The sound needs to be heard to be believed though. That typical Warwick growl, but with a brighter high end to add a little pop. Huge range of tones also. I play this through Peavey Nitro bass head (don't judge a book by the cover! Peavey ain't all that bad!) and a Mesa 1x15 cab. It's awesome, but I'm going to be getting an Aguilar 4x12 and DB750 which really bring out the basses tones. Other than those setups, I occasionally run it through an SWR Baby Blue II for studio and practice. Great through anything. I occasionally put an MXR Phase-90 in front of it to give it a smooth, warm effected tone.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Everything on this bass was set perfect, other than the action. It was a tiny bit buzzy at first, but with some minor adjustments, its great. Neck is dead on straight even at 15 years old! The finish is amazing. If you've seen a great piece of birdseye up-close, than you'll know what I'm talking about. It's art.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It's lasted 15 years and it looks new. I play hard, and it takes it. Not only does it take it, but it responds to me beating the crap out of it on stage, and elicits an even deeper tone. Warwick's are one of the highest quality instruments available, and this was a hand built one from Germany. I'm not about to try dropping out my car on the freeway, but very solid.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to deal with. That's a good thing, right? Dale Titus lives in my home town though, so I could just go to him if I ever had a problem

This is IT. Ken Smith, Lakland, Pedulla, Warrior, Alembic, even Fender basses and everything on down can have some great sounds. But none of them sound like a Warwick. I can get a tone to kick the ass of anybody playing any other bass and barely break a sweat doing it. It really isn't fair. I paid $900 for about a $6000 bass. It's highway robbery. I wanted to give a "shout-out" to the guy I bought it from. I almost feel bad...but hopefully he knows how happy he made this bass player. I've been all about Warwick for a few years, and had just planned on getting another Corvette Standard 5. That is a great bass. Professional, priced right. This makes it look like a toy. I don't want to think of what might happen if it were lost, stolen, broken, or anything else that might happen. It's irreplaceable. Even if I had the money to find a normal Dolphin Pro I on EBay, it would be of ovangkol or boire (both sound great too by the by.) And the lights! I doubt anybody is looking at this because they are getting the same exact bass as I have, but If you are looking at Warwick, and more specifically a Dolphin Pro-1 (the Pro II is shit by comparison), I highly recommend. Warwick makes a solid bass, with a tone that can only be found in a Warwick. The dolphin is no exception, if anything it simply adds to that tone by adding more versatility, and balance, as well as exotic looks and a unique shape. Best bass I've ever seen/played. Ever. And I've seen a lot.
