2007 Warwick Double Buck bolt-on 4 string bass, nirvana black finish, 2 Active/Passive MEC large pole pickups with dual 3-way coil switching (hum cancelling parallel/series, single coil) Active MEC 2-band electronics. Swamp Ash body, ovangkol neck, wenge fingerboard. Very light compared to the bubinga model.

Sound : 10
One of the top 3 basses in the Warwick fleet. Granted the bass isnt thousands and thousands of dollars like most high end warwicks, but this bass can basically give you any sound you want out of a bass guitar, regardless of the manufacturer. I was indecisive between a thumb 4-string (neckthrough) and a $$, and ultimately had to choose the $$. Not only is the $$ several thousands cheapter than the thumb, but depending on your rig you can certianly dial in the thumb sound on this bass. Dont get me wrong, im a thumb fanatic, its an amazing bass, well built, sounds like a beast. But with the thumb you can only get one great sound, the growly trademark its known for. Due to its pickup configuration the $$ is amazing. Slap, finger, fretless, funk, jazz, metal, raggae, r&b, hip hop, punk any music style you can think of this bass can dial in that tone. A true active passive hybrid bass. Ive been extremely critical on this review and have played tons of basses for literally months before making this decision, so keep that in mind.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
Had the bass special ordered from Warwick with different hardware, but it came exactly as the one's you see in stores. Low action, great antonation, no dings, scratches or chips. Smooth satin finish, nicely figured ash body, smooth, fast neck. No fret buzz. Had to raise and lower a few things around the bridge and the just-a-nut III due to the tuning I play in but other than that everything was flawless.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I play in a rock/metal band and this bass deals with the abuses and long practice sessions beautifully. My guitar players run a 6505+ and a Krank Revolution, both with Marshall 1960A lead cabs. I run the bass through an SWR 750 head and Mesa Boogie Powerhouse stack of 4x10 and a 1x15 on the bottom for some low end. I also run the bass directly through a Tech21 SansAmp, a product I HIGHLY recommend you get if you do not have a tube driven head. The bass cuts through even the dirtiest mix of over-driven distortion and drums. Raw growly sounds or smooth, thick bass with a ton of depth is offered. A+

As a die hard fan of Warwicks it pains me to say it but some of the staff are pricks. Took a very long time to get the hardware changed on the bass, (a month) I mean it's hardware how long does it take to change? Dont expect to be treated like a buddy when you order something that requires Warwick to go out of their way.

Overall Rating : 10
No matter what style you play, if you're indecisive about which bass to get next, go play a $$. Mess with the switches, the coil taps, the treble/bass & active/passive pickups, play on different amps, tube, solid state, everything, play through a sansamp, play through a hundred dollar rig, play through a $5,000 rig. The bass is a beast. The best of both worlds with passive and active capabilities. It can match any Warwick, any Ernie Ball, any Zon. Tip: If you go through Guitar Center dont settle for the price on the tag, they'll try to rip you off with a price of around $1400, work with the guy and get a better price. GO BUY ONE!
