Made in 2003 (I think), far east construction, 4 string. Equis Active preamp with bass, mid, treble and presence controls. Good tone shaping available, I can get exactly the sound I want from it. Piezo under saddle pickup. Mahogany neck, back and sides spruce top. Gloss black finish with ivory binding. Single cut design which allows good upper fret access. Sealed Gotoh style tuners. 34" scale.

Sound : 10
I love the sound from this bass, rich and full of character. I run it straight to my Peavey MK 3 head, no effects in between. I have string it with Thomastik acoustic bass strings and it has a lovely warm sound. You can get a good variety of sounds by tweaking the preamp and changing your right hand playing position.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
This bass came to me perfect, no scratches, dents, nicks, visible glue or anything like that. The shop I bought it from set it up and it played great from day one. The fret job was very good and the action is spot on.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass seems as solid as your going to get for an electro acoustic. The finish is tough and robust, the tuners seem solid and as stable as any other Gotoh tuners I've come accross. The only niggle would be the rear strap button is glued in not screwed in so I am a bit worried about it's strength, but this is probably more paranoia than a realistic issue. I would deffinately gig without a backup.

I haven't dealt with them or had to get any repair work done.

I have been playing for about 8 years now and own several squiers a US fender precision, Maverick Custom shop S4 Nemesis, and have built several basses myself. This bass has a sound all of its own and often gets picked up ahead of more expensive instruments. I had to move from home for about 8 months and could only take one bass with me, it was the Washburn. If this bass was stolen I would try and find another one in a heart beat. I looked into all the other acoustic/electro acoustic basses in this price range and the washburn won out easy. It's well built, sounds good and has a lovely neck, what more do you need??

Active electronics and on-board preamp with eq. Can actually color pretty good sound with the preamp alone. Strongly suggest flatwound strings as the bridge pickup is extremely sensitive to slide-buzz.

Sound : 5
Pretty decent sound.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
Crap, crap and crap. Truss rod broke after 3 months and the action is extremely high. Can't do much to adjust the action as the bridge is fixed. There's cracks all around the preamp.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
I've never played this bass live and I just hate it so much that it sits in its case in the attic. I'm sure with that kind of treatment it will last a long time because its not being played.

I didn't send in the warranty card.... duh!

I've been hanging on to this bass for sentimental reasons. My dad bought it for me so I feel bad throwing it out. If it were to get stolen I would rejoice as I could collect insurance on it. I will give my address to anyone who would like to steal this bass and I'll split the money with you.

The bass is a Korean-made Acoustic/Electric. The body is a thin, cutaway style. It's a 4-string with 23 frets. This bass is a standard 34-inch scale(which is nice). Instead of the usual round soundhole, this bass has the soundhole slits which makes the bass visually unique. According to the Washburn site, the top is Spruce and the sides, back, and neck are Mahogany. The bridge is Rosewood and the bass uses a Korean piezo pickup. My bass is black, but I believe you can also find them in the natural finish.

Sound : 6
The bass has a very bright sound. I'm sure with a little tweaking of the settings and wearing in the new strings, I'll be able to coax even more tones out of it. It only takes slight movement of the sliders on the EQ to make noticeable changes.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 1
This bass is the replacement of the replacement. The first bass had cracks in the wood around the EQ panel. The second bass's EQ panel was installed crooked and it also had cracks in the wood around the EQ panel. This third bass (third time's a charm?) supposedly went through a more rigorous inspection.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
It's too soon for me to put a score in this category. All I can say is that I hope this bass proves to be a keeper....

The customer support were neither helpful nor friendly in the beginning (last year). I even wrote letters inquiring about my situation and got no response. When calling about the ordeal, I sometimes felt as though the person was not interested in helping me. I'm glad I filled out the warranty card, but it felt like pulling teeth to get the situation resolved. I did a lot of waiting. It took one year, two months, two weeks, and three days from the original purchase date to finally get this bass and case from the company. My advice in dealing with Washburn's customer service is to be persistent. Definitely fill out the warranty card.

I've been playing for several years. I'm classically trained on string bass, but I play a diversity of other musical styles as well. I own a string bass, an American Fender Precision Bass, this Washburn AC/EL, a couple acoustic guitars, a Yamaha electric guitar, and a Czech-made fiddle. I bought this bass because I wanted to have an acoustic/electric bass guitar as a nice compliment to fill in between the electric bass and the upright. There are some nice features about this bass....the 34" scale, the sound, and it looks cool. I realize that this is a 'low-end' model, but I believe that even a 'low-end' model should be of good quality and good playability. I hate that it took three attempts to finally get it right. In the time I spent waiting, I could have saved my money and bought the American-made Tacoma acoustic/electric bass. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER WASHBURN INSTRUMENT. I give it an overall score of 3 for the number of basses....
