I own a new (2006/2007) Washburn t-14Q 24 fret 4 string 34" scale with a passive PJ pickup configuration. It has a bolt on neck and features a basswood body with quilted maple top. I bought the tobacco sunburst. The sunburst goes from a black edge to a tiger striped looking maple. It was manufactured in china. The hardware, (Bridge, tuners, knobs) seems to be above average. Not great but they have a nice feel to them. I paid $150 sight unseen (internet dealer)and, now knowing the guitar, I would have paid 3 times that.

It came with a gig bag, strap, tuner, tools, 6'cable, and picks.

Sound : 9
Nice rich tone and FANTASTIC sustain! (if you like that sort of thing)

The "P" pickup is the powerhouse on the axe. The "J" is a bit timid but it still has a wonderful clean tone that is fun to play with.

I only use my fingers and the the tone I get while using full J and half P makes my happy.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action out of the box is usable but a bit hight I still want to adjust it. The finish on the body is way above average for the price range. The neck, while not super fast, hast a nice feel. The stock strings are okay, But I want flatwounds.

Reliability/Durability : No Opinion
so far so good. But haven't had it long enough to make a good judge

I am a "restart"

I started to play about 10 years ago using my friends equipment I gave it up for??? uhh stupidity. The bug to play hit me recently and I bought this guitar. I have played no name cheap-o's, fender's, epiphones', and even an alembic spoiler (yes the best of the lot). For what this guitar costs, ($150) I really can't imagine a better deal. It may not be the best bass for the active pro, but for a beginner or someone who just wants a nice inexpensive axe to noodle with, Washburn has made the choice simple.

I'm not sure when this was made. It has 24 frets. It has a laminated top , but not the same caliber as the higher end T-24 and T-25's. It is still quilted beautifully, it doesn't have that wood seam in the middle. The colors are vibrant and gradual (I'm really picky about color bursts, if it's not gradual I hate it). This has the same shape as they all do though, which allows it to be perfectly balanced. When you let go it dives but not below you, it goes perfectly level. There are Washburn P and J style pickups. I can't figure out how to put the knob config into words, I guess one is volume (though you can have it turned all the way down if the others compensate) and does not color the tone. The middle is supposed to be for the P- pickup. The bridge knob controls how much of the J you use. The neck is bolted on. It is has a maple fretboard. The tuners are pretty ordinary but work very very well. I hardly ever have to tune it (beyond a few semitones, that is-- no wood is perfect). The neck is so very comfortable and fast. It doesn't feel sticky to me at all, and yet it's not so slippery that I can't stay in one place. The radius of the neck is good for me because of the size of my hands (huge) so some may not like this as much. Mine did not come with accessories.

This bass is made for funk I think. They make the Bootsie Space, so I think that is what they excel at. I use mine with both an old practice amp and a brand new Fender Rumble 100w combo. I am pleased. The sound rings and but there is no decay. You hit the note and it almost speaks in monotone, there is no difference in tone when you first hit it and when it rings. It can sound crowded and busy when you're doing crazy stuff. The tone sounds like funk but I don't know if the sustain is a good idea. It works well on blues and jazzy mellow things, because it has two different pickups. It can go from a decent bright tone to a very low and very bassy tone. The P pup annoys me. It has a hint of a wah sound to it, and it's not very punchy. I think I'll replace it. The bridge J is good though, it isn't very noisy at all and can give you a significant tonal quality. I did some recordings with this though and man it's great. Seriously, it sounds very good through my brother's M-Audio 2496, and I was even using an entry level BP-80.

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
When I first got it the action was pretty decent. They are usually set up very well (I tried out all the other Washburns, even the T12), but mine had been sitting there a while and was on sale for -$100. I was okay with it though, because I started off on an eBay bass with VERY high action and a broken truss rod. The pickups might have been a little far away from the strings (this bass has the neck raised above the body a bit). I was fine with the pickup place, but some might want to change it. I found 4 flaws (might also be the reason for the sale price): 3 little divets below the finish on the front below the P-pup about the size of a piece of dust; a little chip on the black block that meets the neck to the body.

I don't know if this will withstand live playing. I only played $300, so ideally: probably not. That is what the 24/25 are for. The hardware will definately last though, such as the input jack. It isn't a nut on a plate like some others, all you can see is a big metal circle. And it has never come loose or felt different plugging it in, even after 5 months. The finish will probably last for another couple of years. It seems kinda cheap. It doesn't scratch easily though, so maybe it will last a while. I can depend on this not to go out of tune or change neck curve every week. It stays in tune for a good long time, maybe even a few months. The strap buttons are very solid. I would use this at a gig, and not feel nervous, but it's not ideal, I think it's more for studio.

I have been a bass player about a year, had this about 5 months. I don't have any regrets whatsoever. I would be very very very very unhappy if this got stolen or if anything happened to it. I love the shape (not because it is phallic but because it is well balanced and light!), the neck, the tuners, and the finish/color (look at the back if you get the chance-- beautiful!). If I hate anything, it's the neck Precision pickup. I love this bass though, I really do. I named her Sofia the day I bought her.
