Washburn XB120 4-string electric active/passive [switchable] bass guitar, two Washburn stock humbucking pickups [each with seperate volume control], global tone control, fixed bridge, black hardware, trans blue finish, 20 frets.

I play Punk, Funk, Metal and many rock-based styles and this bass suits them all. The tone flexibility is great, good range of sounds available.
The bass is very quiet even with high-gain/boosted high-end settings. I run it through a Behringer Ultrabass BB115/210/BX4500H fullstack with a Behringer PB1000 pedal board containing a Behringer NR100 Noise Reducer, Boss TU-2 Chromatic Tuner, Behringer BEQ7 Bass Graphic Equalizer, Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive, Behringer CS100 Compressor/Sustainer and Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter.

The action is good but there is fret buzz up on fret 14 on the A string, which I cannot seem to solve without greatly heightening the saddle height. This is not a problem for me but the buzz is there all the same. Also some rough wood chips at the nut groove [top of fretboard]. Also, the truss rod cover was not screwed to the headstock properly, and it still refused to be screwed down properly. The frets are nice and smooth. The pickups were slightly angled when I recieved the bass, I don't know if this was intentional or not. No crackly pots, the finish was great, no loose tuning pegs or rusty/damaged hardware. Body in mint condition.

This bass will easily withstand live playing, I've used it live several times and it has performed more than satisfactorily. The hardware looks set to last well, as does the finish. The strap buttons are good and secure, should see no problems there. I've never had to adjust the truss rod. I can, and often do, depend on this bass on a weekly basis. I have used it at several gigs without a backup and will continue to do so, it is very reliable.

I've been playing for around three years now. I've just bought a cheap second hand Tanglewood Rebel 4K and have an Aria Pro II series bass, which I am soon to get rid of. I felt confident enough in buying the bass after an initial test play to not query the seller about it. If it was stolen or lost, I would easily buy another. I love the easy playability, the body shape, the nice light weight and the great sound and tone flexibility.

I've had this bass for about a year and it's proper solid. It's got 20 frets and all the hardwares great, apart from a few hitches along the way.
Sound
:

It's possible to get any sound possible out of this thing. I play mostly metal, with a little bit of funk and punk thrown in at band practice. I'm currently using a Fender Rumble amp, but thats because I'm too skint to buy a decent stage amp.

Now here's where it falls apart. I've had problems with frets filing down so i get this irritating buzzing, but thats all really. This bass has a great finish to it, I've never polished it once and it looks great.

This things crapped out on me before, alot. The connections come loose so many times it's unbelievable, so I got a new jack fitted to fix the problem. The finish on the back is really scratched, but that's my own fault (I have a massive belt-buckle fetish). But thr crappy connections been the most annoying thing...half way through a song and bang, no signal.

Ive been playing nearly a year now, and as this was my first bass I'm thoroughly happy with it. It's just got a classic feel to it, like it could be played along with any style and would fit in straight away.
I love this bass. I may get the five-string version some time, or just another Washburn because there just such awesome basses. Shame about the connection trouble though...it loses 2 points for that.

i had a bad expierence here. right before a gig something went wrong with it and it wouldn't work at all. i had a friend fix it and it only took him 15 minutes, but it wasn't fixed until after the show. i had to play on my backup squier and it ruined a fair portion of the show because squiers suck, and my drummer had a hard time hearing that p.o.s. so, yes, you would be wise to carry a good back up when playing shows with this bass. the finish seems to get dinged easily as well. everything else is solid.

so yes, it broke once at a very bad time. i do love this bass to death, and i would buy another one again. even if it weren't on clearance, i'd pay 500+ to have it again. it is better than a lot of guitars in that price range as well.

I dunno the year my xb120 was made but it was China. Has 20 frets and a 4-stringed bass guitar. Its a Laminated top and has a bantam series logo..I think its the signiture of washburn. It is a soapdish pickups and its very attractive! My pickups is great even w/o a 9- volt battery can be active or passive but it delivers good sound with a battery on it unlike the xb 400 it will not respond w/o a battery..Tuners are the best its locking.
Sound
:
9
Im more on a slappy player so funk suites me. . If I pull the string and make combo on the octaves I can feel the intensity and the activness of the soapdish pickups especially when the strings are new and you boil the string with water and a powdered detergent. I use trace elliot and hartke amps and I really feel the power of this bass especially when the battery is new. This bass can be played on stage thanks to the pickup and its attractive design.

The finish is very amazing. when a fellow bassist borrowed and watched it on a gig, the bass is extremely shiny. It was well laminated and the black w the goldish effects is a good combination!

I find this bass withstand live playing. so far I didnt make some accidents like falling it or something. Im really taking good care of it because of its finish and infact Im cleaning it with a washburn guitar juice every 2 weeks. If Im not using the bass I remove or loosen the string because of the neck especially the truss rods. I rely on this bass so eventhough I have no bass backup I assure the durability of this bass is definitely tough!

Sound

I play metal, so the active pickups definitely give me the extra punch to cut through two heavily distorted guitars...my rig is simple...i use my xb120 through an mxr-80 pedal through a fender rack tuner and a gemini rack power amp into a hartke VX 2x15's...simple but resourceful, sharp sounding and very full, i love the sound i get with these pickups
Action, Fit, & Finish

here is the only problem i have with this bass, when i got it it was straight out of the box, the fret edges were sharp as hell and the neck was extremely bowed...the frets later dulled out and after messing around with the truss rod, the neck is well in place, the only other thing is the top string is very flimsy compared to the action that the other 3 strings have...its still a very good sounding bass, you just have to hook it up a bit so that it gets there...

very good during live playing, hardware is very simple but seems very sturdy, finish looks awesome, i can really depend on it, its durable...i've dropped it 4 or 5 times, and it still like new, its the only bass i own so yea, i gig it w/o a backup....

As I picked this up used, I am unsure when or where it was made, but it was prior to 2000. I suspect it was made in Korea, but these were also manufactured here in the USA for a while. The neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard, 20 frets. The body is a single piece of wood, not too light, possibly alder, with a translucent blue/green finish. The passive pickups are soapbar style, washburn 941 (neck) and 943 (bridge). The hardware is all chrome, a volume knob, tone knob, and 3-way pickup toggle switch. The bridge is nice and chunky, with 4 separately adjustable saddles; tuners are typical washburn, but stay in tune extremely well. Overall, the instrument is very well put together, and has withstood years of abuse and some overseas touring without any complaint. The materials and construction are definitely superior to Fender's Mexico instruments.

I play this bass through a vintage Kustom 250-watt head and 2 15" cabs, a Hartke and a Peavey. The cabs are not great, but the bass still sounds quite good. The mids are clear, low end is very punchy, highs seem a bit shrill but I suspect that is more of a amp/speaker issue than a guitar issue. The tone variation is noticeable, from warm and rounded out to harder and more pronounced. I've been using this on stage for some time, I have several other basses including a vintage Gibson SG-450 but I keep coming back to this one because it is easy to get a good sound out of. It sure doesn't sound like a $200 bass.

When I first took this off the rack at the music shop, I knew I didn't need to pick up another one. The action is better than just about any bass I've played, including instruments up to 3 times as expensive. As I mentioned before, the construction is excellent. The only problem I've had has been a loose selector switch, but a recent setup fixed the problem and I haven't had it again.

Extremely reliable; able to get bashed around in an Airplane cargo hold without any effect on sound or playability. Solid construction, I frequently gig without a backup using this bass. Rarely needs any adjustment.

I've been playing about 5 years now. In addition to this bass, I have a 1969 Gibson SG-450, a 1972 Fender Musicmaster, and a Lotus P-bass knockoff. I would buy this Washburn again in a heartbeat, and am considering upgrading to a neck-through Washburn based solely on the quality of this supposedly 'low-end' guitar. I can't believe an instrument of this quality can be gotten so cheap considering how expensive guitars are these days. If you get an opportunity to pick one up, you will thank yourself. I won't rate it a 10 since there are better bass guitars out there - but not for anywhere near $200.

Found this at a Pawn shop on Main St. in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Not sure where it was made as the labels were missing. I suspect Korea or Indonesia, although some of the other Washburn basses are made in good ole USA. Two pickups, volume knob, tone know, and 3-way pickup switch. What really impressed me when I picked up this bass was the feel and sound. Great neck. Although it doesn't have as many features as other basses I looked at. I'm used to playing a Rickenbacker 4000 series, which is definitely a better bass. The price was only $300 cdn.

I was very impressed with the sound. The volume control seemed a bit touchy to me, but I'll get used to it. Using it with a Yorkville Bassmaster 100 amp. I play alot of country, and it's well suited for that.

This bass is a four string with 2 pickups, passive electronics, a single volume and tone control, and a three way selector. Mine had a tranparent blue finish. Average Washburn tuners and bridg, but very nice slim and fast neck. After the neck on my Squier P-Bass, this one is a breeze.
Sound
:

I run mine through a Hartke 7000 and only a single Hartke 115 XL (I know, 700 watts into one speaker, what can I say, I need more cash). It has a warm full tone but not as harsh or hard as that of my P-Bass. The three way pickup selector is very nice...every guitar should have one. This bass is a good deal quiter than most other basses of its price range, even with the bridge pickup soloed and the tone knob cranked.

Mine came from the factory in good condition. The action is right where I want it but the bass was not in tune. This was not a mistake...when a bass isn't played for awhile or is being moved, you should do this to remove tension from the neck. The only thing I did was raise the height of the bridge pickup a bit.
Reliability/Durability

It seems like a dependable bass, but fairly easy to chip. I already have several knicks on the body and headstock of mine even though I'm careful with it, although fortunately none of them go through the finish. Other than that, it's quite reliable- no shot outs or trussrod adjustments yet.

I dig this bass. I lloked at many other brands like Dean, and hartke for basses, but this one was much better for the price I paid. It lists for about $500, but if you can get it for 350 or less do it.
