Excellent copy of Violin bass purchased from EBay in the UK, physically identical to the Epiphone Viola apart from top of headstock shape. Two humbuckers, three rotary controls for V/V/T, set neck, decent machine heads. Made in Korea (probably same factory as the Epi's, as I said it's almost 100% identical) Finished in a vintage sunburst colour to a very hig standard indeed. Key difference to the Hofner is the lack of the small slide switches for "solo" etc on the control panel, plus the name of course.

Sounds amazing, despite being supplied with Roundwound strings - changing for flatwounds today. Sound best described as big and boomy - roll off the volume on the bridge pickup adn you are emulating the "Paul Samwell-Smith" boom of the early 60's, a balaance of both puts you firmly in Paul McC territory. Sounds best when played with thumb (Bill Wyman style) or a pick. Fingerstyle makes it sound too "modern" with the roundwounds, this will be cured by the flatwounds.

Action perfect from the box. Raised bridge pickup slightly for a better pickup balance (tended to be biased towards the neck pickup before)

I'm a guitar player who records a lot and am often asked to play bass too, if bass player not up to the mark. Also have vintage P bass (1972) and a vintage Jazz bass (1974) plus Squier 5 string Precision (excellent when you change the pickups for ones that pick up the low B!!). I've managed to get by with the P Bass up to now, but need a dedicated 60's sounding bass for authenticity (people can still hear the P Bass "thump" even when compressed and EQ'd, still sounds like Norman Watt-Roy - the god of British Bass players!!!). I absolutely love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
