Features : 8
Canadian Maple body, Maple neck, Rosewood 22 fret board, Med-Jumbo frets, MOP Dot inlays, 34 in scale, Magnacast bridge, two magnabass passive pickups (one split "P" one stacked "J"), Master volume, 2xTone, 3-way P/U selector, westone phoenix emblem on headstock, 4 bolt neck joint, Painted headstock, Matsumoku-made, rock solid construction

Sound : 8
Very high output for a passive bass, good signal to noise ratio. Neck PU is fat with round lows and pronounced low-mids.
Bridge PU has Jaco tone, excellent for stacatto playing/16th note funk and fast runs...very articulate Did I say high output? Rivals the active output of my Stingray in pure volume.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
Great action, truss rod works as advertised. Bridge fully adjustable, no issues. No finish flaws, apart from user-inflicted scratches.

Reliability/Durability : 8
Had to resolder some of the wiring when I bought it (used off Ebay)which is how I got it so cheap. Once the soldering was done, NO issues at all. I had one of these basses 15 years ago and used it as my primary stage bass over and above several Fender basses I owned at the time.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Sadly, Matsumoku is defunct.

Overall Rating : 8
A great bass if you can get one in decent shape. The build quality of the Matsumoku era versions is outstanding, whereas the later Korean made models dropped significantly in quality. For the money, very hard to beat (if you can stomach the pointy-ish headstock shape).

i don't know anything about this instrument, because it belonged to one of our studio members who comitted suicide. It's a 4-string bass, signed 'Spectrum Series II', has a serial number (89 03 0034) stamped in the back of the neck inforcement, one humbucker pickup, volume and tone control. the sound of this instrument is terrific, it has got 22 frets is very heavy (about 4 kg) has a steel-reinforced neck. the power of the pickup is nearly the same like an active one. the sound when slapping is very hard and clean. i love this bass!

Sound : 10
we play blues-rock, jazz-rock etc. the sound suits excellent, it's heavy, powerful, thundering but also brilliant

Action, Fit, & Finish : 6
the instrument is very well done, except the electronical parts. several times the socket-screw fell out, if you overdrive the volume, the pontentiometer overdrives and shortcuts the condensator or other contacts

Reliability/Durability : 8
i never go to a gig without 3 or more basses, because i never trust an instrument. with this one, once i lost the socket, so i had to change it. perhaps it was my fault, because i didn't fix it properly.

Customer Support : No Opinion
a band member left it after comitting suicide.

I'm playing for 28 years now and this the most powerful sound i've ever heard from a solid bass guitar. i'm playing framus half-acoustic, fender precision, fender jazz, ken rose 5-string, washburn.
