mine was one of the earliest thunders, made in 1981>1983, all the specs have been covered in previous reviews but mines red woodgrain with plain woodgrain stripes down the center, unsure how many pieces the body is but atleast 4.

as previously stated: made in the famous japanese factory and the shape is kindof a off SG, lots of knobs but i'v never realy played around with them in the time iv had this bass (a few months)

Sound : 9
active pickups hurrah! I usualy play punk/rock/grunge/whatever tickles my fancy and the bass is very versatile.

would be an awesome studio bass, electrics are very quiet and it just sounds awesome...

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I got it in 07, the bass was made in 1981>1983: its been thrashed when I got it and its still going strong

Reliability/Durability : 9
this thing is a BRICK, I swear to god if it was lighter it'd be a weapon.

hardwares tough but the tuners on mine are long overdue for replacement (hey, their older than I am!) strap buttons are an the nntresting shape > either replace them or use strap locks as even though they look good the placement without straplocks will drop this guitar on your foot (and we dont want that, its very heavy !)

I gave this bass a 9 as its aprox 25years old and the necks perfect, the wood although scratched its still alive, iv dropped this bass and not been able to find a mark, it got a 9 instead of a 10 because of the weight.

Customer Support : No Opinion
westones dead, the factory burned down long ago

Overall Rating : 8
iv been playing for about four years now, I own 4 basses (2 yamahas, an ibanez and the westone)

my amp of choice is a peavey mark IV with a single 15" cab (all vintage)

i love this bass, its just so awesome and versatile but it is a bit on the heavy side if someone stole it i'd probably have to order one from england and it'd take ages to find one in the same colour.

if your concidering a "uncle matt" and the price is reasonable > buy it, best purchase you'l ever make.

marked it an 8 due to the weight.

Made in about '86 21 fret 4 string. big chunk of timber like an overweight ebo. Pickup is a magnabass iv from memory precision clone in a soapbar shape. Pressed metal bridge, Jazz style satin black neck, immaculate in case with plastic on the tuner backs, a student must have owned this and never done his practice! I'll rate features high though it is a bare bones bass. the tone works, the pickup has a beautiful punch, the finish is immaculate thick and buffed like polished marble.

Sound : 8
set for low action slaps and plucks beautifully, pops ok. I play fast after 40 years and its up to it. no noise full sound but that tone pot adds considerable punch. If you want a sound it has its sound and for this purpose I would use it anywhere. the eb3 dont hav it the 4001 dont, the jazz dont, the smith dont etc.....how could this be??? no hum

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
set up was student now its sweet.

Reliability/Durability : 8
built like a brick shithouse. Am I oldschool or has tone somehow gotten better with crappy lightweight basses? Do you just need to do some training so you can play a gig with a proper peice of wood?

Customer Support : 4
Assuming its 20 years old and will last another 50 I would suggest at that point taking your spaceship to the astro luthier.

Overall Rating : 10
got all the best basses, why do I keep being amazed at a simple piece of wood like this.....mmmm....guess they got it right. Its not elegant, but well crafted. I wish it had a brass nut, a custom bridge routed into the body, piezos, dual cutaways, straplocks, a two aside headstock, 2 pickups, active tone, and the jack was on the underside instead of the face. But then i wouldnt play it and it would sit with my custom guitars from the glory days in the wardrobe.

White body, 21 frets, 1 volume knob, 1 tone knob, 1 spilt coil pickup, Rosewood fretborad, precision style body with horned ends like an SG, this is a really good bass that i bought for cheap.

Sound : 8
Great sound, sounds great even on a Rogue amp.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
if you can play precision, you casn play this.

Reliability/Durability : 9
Great reliabilty, been around since the mid 80's and still plays great.

Customer Support : 1
i dont think this company even exists any more, which sucks.

Overall Rating : 8
This si the best bass that I have had the good fortune to play, but the company isnt around anymore, which brings my rating down.

Laminated metallic red finish with coil splitter on the volume pot. 2 humbucker pickups. EXTREMELY sturdy tuners very very old but unsure how old

Sound : 10
Very warm tone, played with a lot of bass and scopped low mids with a bit of high mid and about 7 on the treble give the warmest sound

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
the setup is shoddy on mine the guy who had it before me was 4 foot tall and it is an extremely long bass so he took the strings off and left it near a window for 6 month. with a setup done on it the action could be sorted and hopefully the intonation. look for these sorts of things before buying one.

i have played another one of the same model aND IT SOUNDED FANTASTIC

Reliability/Durability : 10
this is great for starters or pros i have done various gigs using only this guitar and i also use it as a back up now because i know if my primary bass dies this one wont this is 100% solid workmanship.

as grolsch would say. VAKMANSCHAPP IS MEESTERSCHAPP (workmanship is mastership)

Single split-coil pickup, bolt-on neck, one tone pot, one volume pot. Pretty much par for the course.

Sound : 9
Very nice driving tone, responds well to a bit of chorus. No hum whatsoever, astoundingly good sound for a bass that cost me less than the price of a couple of nights out!

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
Solid feeling, well built piece of hardware. Took only a small amount of tweaking to get a very low, rattle free action.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass is over 20 years old. When i got it it seemed to have had a hell of a hard time, was dirty and battered but under the muck it was virtually unscathed. Few chips where it's been dropped or something but the neck is straight as a die. Very tough!

Customer Support : No Opinion
N/A i guess. Shame.

Overall Rating : 10
What a great instrument! Very tough, great sounding, eminently giggable bass for next to no money. It's a great choice as a second bass or even as a main instrument. There are still lots around and they sell for very reasonable prices.

this is an oldish westone bass, i'd say about 1980 - 1990. im not sure about construction as the entire thing is painted a flat glossy black (full black hardware)
4 string with fender style headstock
21 frets - standard size
one volume - one tone nob
single pickup
i got an original westone bass case with it for an extra $40 - great workmanship
not sure what to call the body style, i personaly like it and its cutaways are rather short and horn like

Sound : 8
sound is great. no static, no problems ever with sound, i play metal and this bass is great for it
only dislike is that it doesnt produce the variety of sounds it could (only has one tone knob but this is expected with a cheaper bass)

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
excelent action, nice feeling neck pickups were reasonably good
the finish was excelent, the entire thing is black with black hardware all over.
plays great for a bass of this price

Reliability/Durability : 9
iv played this bass live on various occasions, iv never even bothered to keep a backup, the finish has stood up to it and hasnt scratched much & it doesnt need to be tuned often, the strap buttons are in a very good place and they are quite strong
- great gig bass (which is what il be using it for when i get a new one)

Customer Support : 1
none. westone got sue'd for their copies by another guitar company. they closed sometime in the late 80's early 90's and singer (sewing machines) bought the factory. i doubt il ever have many problems with this bas though.

Overall Rating : 9
this is a great bass, excelent first bass(my first bass) it offers great value and playability. il keep this bass long after i upgrade.

I'm not sure what year this bass is. I purchased it used in '88 or '89. It was made in japan and has 21 frets. It has volume and tone controls and two Fender precision type pickups(i'm not a pickup expert, I just liked the sound so I had them installed). The neck is rosewood but i'm not sure about the body. This bass is very light. The body reminds me of a P-bass. It has a gloss black finish and the neck color has darkened with use.

Sound : 9
This bass suits me very well. Its light weight makes it easy to move on stage. I was surprised that the tone is deep and rich and the guitar sounds equally good in the studio and on stage. It's a fun guitar to play and i've played Gibson and Fender basses on stage. I play it though a GK 250 head and an old 18 inch speaker cab.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The action on the Westone bass is quick. The original pickups were so-so. The body seems well made.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I've played this bass in many shows inside and outside. The hardware is tough and the finish has lasted for 10 years of regular playing. I've never had a backup for a show.

Customer Support : 7
I've done minor repairs myself.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing bas for about ten years. I'm going to keep this Westone until it falls apart. Then I may consider having it rebuilt.
