I'm not sure when it was made. It was made in Taiwan. It has 4 strings.Solid body (alder). One volume, one tone, 1 p-bass type pickup, passive electronics. Gloss black finish. Decent tuners.34"scale neck.Maple neck, Maple fingerboard.

Sound : 8
no hum. it may sound more aggressive with a stronger pickup, but it sounds alright.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I bought it second hand. Good tuners. excellent neck(my favorite neck of the six basses that I own). I was able to adjust the bridge to intonate well with the strings it came with. The output jack is a little too tight.

Reliability/Durability : 10
It seems very solid and well built.

Customer Support : 4
In my past dealings with the company, they don't seem to keep good records regarding their older products, but it really doesn't matter much to me because I am able to do most adjustments and repairs myself.

Overall Rating : 9
I own several yamaha instruments. I believe that they are well made. I also own a few squiers which are alright, but I believe that yamaha instruments usually have better tuning pegs than squiers. I believe that it is a very nicely made instrument for the price I paid. I also believe that the people that designed this instrument are exceptionally talented. If you run across one of these, you may want to take it home. The maple neck and maple fingerboard make this instrument feel like something that costs hundreds of dollars more!
