21frets taiwan made 1995, tone, tone, volume. Bolt on. passive electrionics. Comfortable maple neck, alder body. Dimarzio model 1 on neck, Dimarzio split P in the middle.

The neck is like a pbass neck size, if you dig the size of pbass neck then this is for you...

I think this bass looks beautiful but I dont really care for finish as long as it plays and sounds good

Sound : 9
THE rock bass, if you play metal or rock go grab this asap. If you play radiohead etc i suggest i try it out first.

Why? Cause it just cuts through the mix like butter. Dimarioz PU are hella hot and I like to turn up the mids and treble, sometimes my bass is even louder than 2 distorted guitars

I have tried playing radiohead stuff using this bass though. I turn off the mid PU and cut off the treble and turn up the Neck PU alittle. Works pretty well, but I still believe this bass is made to rock

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
Matter of preference...no comments

Reliability/Durability : 8
I got it for afew months and I say its so good so far, I think he'll last longer than me if I dont set out to destroy it

Customer Support : No Opinion
no need to talk to em

Overall Rating : 9
Been playing for 4years and Ive played LOTS of basses. Warwick, spectors etc. While theyre good basses, I still dig the yamaha attitude more for rock. I only play 2 basses as of now, my fender jazz for mellower music, My epi thunderbird to look cool, and my Yamaha Attitude to be loud

Only think I dont like is that its alittle neck heavy compared to my jazz, but nothing too serious like the Thunderbird's neckdive.

21frets, maple neck, alder body, bolt on, 2vol 1 tone knob. Made in taiwan, and only produced in 1995 if im not wrong.

The previous owner swapped the yamaha Pus for dimarzio wooder and split P. The neck is kinda like a P bass neck, this bass is kinda like a P bass on steroids. It doesnt have the scalloped frets and only one output unlike the Ltd version, but who cares. I dont use em neways

This bass looks hot, but nothin is perfect so ill just giv it a 9

Sound : 9
This is THE rock bass, if you're playing Iron Maiden or Rancid etc. then this is for you. Powerful middy growl. When playing alone I dont find it
anythign special but when jamming with a band it cuts through even 2 distorted guitars with ease. But Id wouldnt recommend using this bass on music like radiohead etc. cause it just too hot. The mid pickup has a very growly tone, and the neck pickup is deeper smoother and has a very good sustain. Just play around w em.

This is perfect if you're playing rock and you wanna BE HEARD

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
The action on mine is low and I like it low. I wouldnt give my opinion on this since different people have different preference.

I dont really care about the finsih of my instrument tbh, as long as it sounds good and feels good. The more scars the better

But this bass is quite wellmade, the painting is pretty good. Haven managed to wreck it yet

Reliability/Durability : 10
I think this bass will last longer than me, neck is pretty darn tough

Customer Support : No Opinion
never needed to do that

Overall Rating : 9
Ive been playing for 4years and played many basses Ive forgotten. I have to say this is the best bass for rock/metal Ive played. One trick pony with a very good trick.

basically a fender precision with a fat arse woofer humbucker thing on it. woul be niceto have the same pickups as the ltd model, mmm dimarzio pickups. and a tone for the split pickup and actuve, but amazing anyway, mines horrible green, and has funny shpes on where its been stickered up, faded and un-stickered so there are bright patches:)

Sound : 8
i play punk, and metal, and heavy twangy music, nice and bright, used with a ashdown 500 and peavey 4-10, and peavey 2-10, perfect.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
was really dirty and the tops of the tuners were loose and rattles like heck when played without an amp, but other than that, also the pickup was split, but its used so"

Reliability/Durability : 6
aparet from the rattly tuners its fine.

See the previous review for a good comprehensive description. The only point I would disagree with is neck width. It feels very much like a Fender P-Bass. My color is the retro seafoam green. People notice this instrument when they see it!

I added a hip-shot drop D tuner. Who needs a 5 string?

Sound : 8
I was drawn to this bass for its deep rich tone from the humbucker. I am now playing it through a Line 6 Pod directly into our sound system which includes JBL subwoofers. When our sound guy and I get right combination of compression and EQ this thing can shake the walls. Our group has just started to do some recording, so I can't comment yet about its qualities there. I practice through an Ampeg BR-100 Rocket which seems to be a good match for it.

The pickup configuration allow me to do most things I want to. I especially like being able to recreate a stand-up bass sound - good for jazz and acoustic applications. The only knock I have on this bass is that the treble sounds are not quite as crisp as I would like. I have a Rickenbacker too, so I'm covered. I also have a Fender JP 90 and an Ibanez SR800. The Yamaha is the one our sound guy asks me to use most often.

I'm constantly experimenting with strings for this thing. Currently it has Dean Markley strings. I've tried GHS Boomers and Yamaha strings. I think Elixers may be next. I'd be interested in knowing what others are using on Attitude basses

Action, Fit, & Finish : No Opinion
I bought this bass from a very good Yamaha dealer (Meridian Music - Indianapolis). They had it very well set up from the begining. The action is comfortably low without any fret buzz. It stays in tune forever

I'd rate this bass on the heavy side of average. The neck is also a little heavy, but far from being a problem. These issues only become a problem in three-hour practice sessions when I'm standing the whole time.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I've never had any problem of any kind. It feels as solid as a bass costing three times as much and as solid as the day I bought it three years ago. I get the neck tweeked once a year as part of a general tune-up. The strap buttons do not move - period!

Other than strings, I would have no reservations about going solo with this instrument, especially since it is passive. (Ever have a 9 vold go dead on you? Not fun!)

Customer Support : No Opinion
No problem, no comment.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing mostly for fun off and on since 1967 - more off than on. I've gotten pretty serious in the last four years as our church is adding contemporary music to many venues. Since I have three other basses (see above) I'd probably not replace this one. But I'm emotionally attached to this thing because it was the first "professional quality" bass I ever bought.

Note that I did not pay a king's ransom for this. When I see these in the aftermarket they still trade at a very reasonable price. I'm sure the color put some potential buyers off. Much of my high rating comes from "bang for the buck."

Taiwan made instrument. 21 frets, alder Pbass body with a maple neck and big black fretmarkers. 2 non-active pickups - a Yamaha "woofer" humbucker at the end of the neck and a Yamaha split-P pickup with a solid bridge that reminds me of a Leo Quan BadAss although it is not a string-thru body. 2 volume controls and a woofer tone control (passive electronics) with solid chrome speed knobs. Very cool. Thunder Blue (they call it) high gloss solid finish which is just gorgeous. Very thin small neck to die for with Yamaha made tuning machines. 1 output jack on the side. Very nice for the money. Only made in 1995.

Sound : 10
The perfect rocker sound. Nice rich, full, deep AND bright (that's what a woofer and a split-P will get you). Also works great for country/R&B/blues. Sounds tits thru my '70s Ampeg SVT head and Ampeg IsoVent 50Pro (2x10s & 2 "clamshell" 15s) cabinet. A funkster friend of mine says it has nice bite but no growl like on a Jazz Bass, but he'd play it anyway. I haven't had anybody play it that doesn't like it.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The only problem I had with this instrument (and I knew it when I bought it) was that the neck was twisted, which caused the action to be high. Since I am a Yamaha-authorized technician, I called them and they sent me out another neck (which took 6 weeks - but I can't bitch since I bought it NEW in 2000...in my neck of the woods, Yamaha just doesn't sell, nomatter how good it is) which I cut a bone nut for and set it up myself to where I wanted it. A very lovely instrument indeed. The only reason I rated it as I did was because of the way I got it.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This is easily the only bass you'd ever need. Yamaha makes some quality instruments, and this is one of them. This bass will take a beating and want more. I have not had any other problems with it (or make any neck adjustments to it) since I set it up after the new neck came in. I replaced the buttons with Schaller straplocks (as I do on all my basses). However, it's only my backup bass (since I mainly play 5 & 6 string basses), but I've used it when I've broken strings and my friends play it when they sit in and love it... If I were to go back to just a 4 string, this is it!!!

Customer Support : 10
I've never had a problem with Yamaha on getting things repaired, and they let me do it myself since I'm an authorized tech. It was only supposed to have a 1 year warranty, but since it was a neck problem they covered it. 6 weeks is awhile to have to wait for another neck, but since it was out of production for almost 5 years when I bought it new I was more than happy with them that they were even able to scrape up the correct neck for it.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing bass for a good 15+ years, and this is one of the few instruments I've kept. It's got a killer sound (though I wish it was active), and it plays like a dream. If it was ever swiped I'd probably have to go thru hell to find another one. In it's price range there is no comparison. The only gripe I have is all the Blue Books saying it retailed for $699. (I don't know where they got that price, since I saw the Yamaha MSRP book when it came out in Jan. of '95.) Anyway, as I've said, my other instruments are 5 & 6 string basses so this is the only 4 string I've kept. Get one if you can find one.
