Yamaha bb 2005, you know the features.
I bought the natural satin finish.

By far one of the best basses that i've played, i can get any sound i want, i just have to look for it.
I don't have anything negative to point out of this bass.

The set-up that came was just the one i love, the moment i picked up the bass and started playing it, everything just felt natural.
I just think that a bass whith this quality should come with a hard case.

This is the only bass i use at the moment, and it's passing through extreme conditions and passing it with flying colors.

I bought the BB2005 as an 'upgrade' to my Yamaha BBG5S. While the BBG5S had slightly 'hotter' Soapbar-Type pickups I think the EQ System on the BB2005 with single-coils sound better overall. I run through a GK1001RB (I keep the EQ flat) and use the Active EQ on the bass entirely. I think it has what I call a very modern sound. I generally do not use the Mid-Cut switch. This is my first neck-thru design guitar and I love the growl and sustain it provides. I was able to tell a difference immediately.

This is the real thing! Top-Notch quality action, fit and finish. I was a bit surprised that a previous reviewer had such a bad experience with his Yamaha BB2005. Mine was used but arrived in near-mint condition and only needed a few minor adjustments. Yamaha necks seems to be fatter and flatter (fingerboard) than other basses I have played. Since I have larger hands (a nice way of saying I have 'fat' hands/fingers) this works well for me. This is a simply a beautiful looking, playing and sounding guitar.

This is my second Yamaha Bass guitar and I have had no problems with either one. My only issue is that my BB2005 seems to go through 9-Volt Batteries quicker than some other basses I have. Not a real big deal but worth mentioning.

N/A FYI: They have a utility to date your Yamaha bass/guitar based on the Serial Number.

Overall I think the BB2005 is a Top Notch instrument. I love how they play and sound. One thing about Yamaha basses/guitars is that they do not hold their value very well. Let me explain: The 'List Price' for the BB2005 is $1999 but they sell for $1299 all day at SamAsh & Musicians Friend. You can pick one up used for $550-$700. (also consider the Yamaha TRB) This is a great deal for such an excellent instrument.

Black model, made 2004, active, neck thue, 34". Two powerful SC pick-up's. The controls are standard bass, treble, blend, volume, AND a very nice mid freq. sweep control / fixed dip, one feature that makes this bass very versatile. No case or gig bag included.

I play pop and rock mostly fingerpicking style. I use a Eden WT800 amp and the sound is AWESOME, solid low end, massive presence. The mid sweep is the key, it take a few day to find the "sweet spots" but they are there. It will do j-bass type of sound, refined Fender if you like, and almost Musicman Stingray5 type of sound when slaped. Big variety, almost noisefree.

I had to lower the strings and the pu's a good 2 mm. The bass was flawless when I recieved it. It's got an amazing black piano finish, good quality chrome hardware, had "gold" hardware been an option, I would have gone for that. It's well balanced and fits me really good.

It seems solid. The finish is amazing, but it may be a bit softer than other, I don't know. The freets are not stainless, which means that there will be string scrathes, hopefully it won't be a problem.

I have been palying for 20+ year's this bass is great. I like the powerfull j-bass type of sound, still it's more refined than Fender, in my opinion. I compared it to most of the Yamaha TRB's, but none of them had the fat j-bass sound, this one does. My favorite feature on this bass are the mid sweep, it make the sound super versatile.
I whish Yamaha had used GOLD hardware, chrome on piano black looks a bit cheap. A case would have been nice too.
Jep, I'd get another if it got stolen.

This bass has an awesome fingerpicking sound all up and down the neck. But that's where the compliments stop. If you tend to be a slap style bassist - this IS NOT the bass for you. The slap tome is so harsh it sounds disgusting. For the $1300 new I paid I really expected allot more. I would have expected this from a $400 bass - but not a $1300 one!!!

The action was set up really food from the factory. The finish was all right. It was painted solid black - but it just feels cheap. I really believe over time you would have trouble with this instrument as far as the finish is concerned. One of the reason other than it's terrible tone that I returned it!! Also note, the the frets are razoe sharp up and down the neck.

I don't think this instrument has the quality or character to withstand regular live playing - and for $1300 that's a bunch of crap!

I played allot of quality instruments from Alembic to Zon - no joke. And I've come to expect decent results from Yamaha's higer line but this is a real let down. I hope they don't plan on their whole bass line falling apart like this one has. If it was costing $400 - I would have been happy - but as a serious player i spent $1300 on an instrument - i expected better things from it, a lot better things... Sorry Yamaha - this one's going back to the store!
