This thing is pretty quiet.Sounds incredible.I use it on stage in my band and we play ska/hard rock/jazz/motown stuff/funk and it handles it all.I use a GK 800RB and that is the best amp for this bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I have had this bass for probably 15 years and use it daily and the frets(unbelievebly) are just as good now as new.Very slightly checked finish. The gold hardware is still 100%(as I do a bi-weekly cleaning of all my basses.

Reliability/Durability : 10
This bass has undergone 8 years with my band playing in america, germany, holland, france and japan. This is one road worthy bass.I occasionally use this bass on local gigs without a back-up.

Customer Support : 10
I have never had to really use the customer support exept for one time and the dealing went so super well.Yamaha has to be the best for keeping the customer happy.

It has all the basic needs. Even after 20 years I still have mixed emotions about active electronics. This has passive and it suits it fine. I am not sure exactly when this was made. Definitly sometime in the 80's. Probably early 80's. It was made in Japan. It has a 21 fret ebony board, 4 string (the 5000s were 5 strings),neck thru, 1 P 1 J pickups, 2 vol, 1 tone, spplit oval position markers, gold hardware, "vintage" white finish. The pickups are passive. I believe the neck is 3 pieces of maple with 2 strips or mahogany and the body is either maple or alder. It's not very heavy (like a late 70's Fender). It's a 34 inch scale, psuedo Fendery/Pedula shape. Basically if you don't know what this is, you better find out.

Punchy and full. This thing sustains like a piano. I play through a Trace Elliot and an Ampeg SVT II. This bass can cover ALL basses. It oozes jazz and growls metal. VERY versitile. I have always loved this series of basses. I own a BB2000 (plus had a second for a while) and Love it. This is essentially the Les Paul Custom vs. the BB2000 as the Standard. If you catch my drift.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 10
I got this one used. I was too young whden it was built. I set up my own guitars so set up is not something I can rate. The abi.ity to be set up is important and this bass certaly is/was. I see now flaws in the bass. I wish I could get a bass today with the construction, finish and sound of this series at the extremly reasonable price they were new.

Reliability/Durability : 10
I have not had this one very long but I have owned 2 BB2000s and one for many years. as a whole they seem to hold up very well. The finish is very durable and the construction is top notch. I have used this one on gigs and my other BB2000s on gigs and recording and they are great!!!!!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
I have never contacted Yamaha on this bass so I can not honestly answer this.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for 20 years. Currently I own about 40 guitars including 3 Gibsons, 8 Fenders, 2 Schecters, 2 Carvins, 3 Kramers, 2 Charvels, 2 OLD Ferdnandes(when they were nicer than concurrent Fenders), and a whole bunch of other assorteds. Bass wise I have about 15 including 4 Fenders (Jazzand P), 1 Spector(NS4), 1 Fodera (Emporror Elite), 1 Alembic (Spoiler), 1 Carvin (5 string, 75?), 1 ESP (M5), 1 Peavey(TL5), 3 Yamahas ( all BB*000s including this one). I own a Trace bass rig and an Ampeg bass rig I usually play through both sinultaneously, and for guitar a Fender Vibrolux Reverb and H R DeVille, a Yamaha DG-100 212 (great amp, blows away Line6), a Line6 and a Marshall lead 12 mini stack (decoration). My obsession with gear also includes 3 Roland and 3 Yamaha Synths, a Boss Br-8 8 track digital studio, assorted MXR, Boss, EH, Chandler, and Ibanez "vintage" effects (they are old I don't understand why people call them vintage)

THIS BASS IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! A new reissue Michael Anthony (Van Halen) list for $3000. I have played them and I like the earlier versions better.
