Mine was made in 2000. I bought it recently used for 350$ Cdn. from local shop. It has 2 humbucker soap bar active pick-ups, with a two-tone starburst finish. 24 frets rosewood fretboard, maple neck Straight and true). No case included, but I tried to get one.

This is my second Yamaha bass with active pickups. It has lots of control for different sounds (especially through my zoom 506II). The Yamaha's give u great options with good sound.
Action, Fit, & Finish
:10
Action was great as I expected. I like low action and of course a straight neck. Owned it about a month and have not had to adjust, even in this cold climate (ont.ca.) Furnace has the humidity down to about 20%. No major flaws even though previously owned. This two- tone sunburst finish is great!!!!

not sure when it was made, i bought it summer of 04, made in taiwan though. 24 frets, 4 strings, bass, treble, volume, and pan controls. two active soap bar pickups; they just say yamaha, so im guessing they're just generic pickups. they sound great either way. alder body, bolt on maple neck, rosewood fretboard, gold hardware, nice solid bridge, gotoh tuners, metallic sky blue finish. all the features of more expensive basses in a lot nicer package. i got it used at guitar center for 150 bucks because they thought the electronic were fried, really the battery prongs were just bent (who knows why) and i just put a piece of electrical tape behind the battery for a spacer and its never been a problem. came with a strap and dunlop strap locks.

i play it in a reggae/blues/jam band and it sounds great. played through an swr bass 750/big bertha or a behringer bx3000t with jbl 2x10 and 1x15 cabs, sounds sweet either way. the controls on this beauty give you a huge range of tonal variations. sounds great with a dunlop cry baby bass wah.
Action, Fit, & Finish

the action is very nice, the neck has a slight curve, barely noticable, from the previous owner, which i plan to have adjusted soon. either way, it plays like a dream. i prefer this to most other name brand bases, like fender, music man, or even some of the alembic's i have played. the only bass i would like more is a warwick thumb bass, but only for the body shape/size.
Reliability/Durability

has stood up to all the punishment i can give it. there are a ton of scratches on the finish, from myself and previous owners, but no major defects or blemishes that are strongly visible. stays in tune consistantly, and ive never needed anything to back it up.

havent dealt with them much, and i got it used to there was little to no warranty from guitar center. but from what i hear, yamaha is very helpful.

I believe this bass was made in Taiwan, year 2001. This is a 24 fret, 4 string axe, with two active Yamaha soapbar pickups and your classic pre-amp control section including volume, pan, bass and treble boost/cut. Body is alder with maple neck and rosewood neck. This bass came with a beautiful pearl white finish and looks quite attractive wih the gold hardware (knob controls, bridge and tuners). I suppose you're either gonna love the gold hardware, or hate it, but I think it looks rather stunning against this finish. A classic, first class assembly by Yamaha!

I utilize a wide range of styles, which is why this bass shines as a diverse instrument when obtaining sounds. I'm a rather lousy, inexperienced "slapper," and can't use a pick, so I rely on my fingers to do the talking. I find that this bass is very easy to play, whether it's old Zeppelin lines, Yes, Genesis, Stanley Clarke, or my own composing. The neck and fretboard feel great...very smooth and well polished. Right now, I'm in the market for a 100 watt, 15" combo amp (I wish I hadn't sold my Peavey Combo 300 5 years ago!). I just bought a new Zoom BFX 708 processor, and I'm telling ya, this is one helluva of setup, especially with the built in drum machine. The BBG4SII sounds fantastic with this processor, especially with chorus/digital delay program. I have to confess, I have a 30 watt Gorilla that belongs to my workplace, but it sounds better through headphones. With 4 kids at home, my wife would kill my ass if i walked in the door with an SVT or gigantor Trace Elliot set-up! But overall, this axe has a nice warm sound to it, with pleanty of presence. I have to give it a 10!

This came right out of the box, and I was pleasantly surprised that no adjustments were needed for action, strings,or bridge. I normally like the D'Addario XL 170's, but I'm actually happy with the factory strings. Nice and punchy. No flaws with the paintwork. Neck was straight with perfect intonation, which is lacking on many basses, even higher end ones.

I think my rock band days are over, maybe when my kids are older, I'll get back with the gigs....so, this is primarily used for my own leisure time. I don't imagine I'll conducting any Pete Townshend jumps with this, so I expect it will last a lifetime. I will treat this thing like a baby My previous bass was also a Yamaha, which was rock solid, I expect the same with the BBG4SII.

The Yamaha people are very efficient and will always get back to you in a quick fashion. I called about the EQ knobs, and they were very helpful and supportive. Other than that, no problems to report or anticipate.

I've been playing bass for 28 years, and this is only the 3rd active bass in that time span. I owned a MusicMan StingRay back in 1980, which I traded for a Kramer DMZ-4000. The Music Man just sounded thin to me, while the Kramer, with the aluminum neck, ebonol fretboard, Dimarzio pickup and unbelievable pre-amp section (closest thing to bass pedals when activated!)has always been one of my favorites. I've also owned a couple of Ric 4001's, a couple of additional late 70's Kramers, Peavey T-40, and yes, the proverbial Fender P, circa 1978. Having said all of that, I'm just really pleased with the quality of the BBG4SII. I got a great deal on this bass, which I believe is being discontinued, or about to head that way. It has the appealing traditional P/J design, with a top quality finish, great neck action, and killer sound. I can't imagine another bass sounded nearly as good as this one for the price! Kudos to Yamaha!

2001 Made in Tiwain. 4 string with 24 frets. Beautiful Alder body Tobacco sunburst finish. Active SoapBar pickups and pre-Amp(Volume, Pan, Bass and Treble). Solid Maple Neck with Rosewood fretboard(34in scale). Gold Hardware (Bridge and Tuners). Accessories: Allen wrench, instrument cable and owners manual. I wished that the owners manual would give information on the pre-amp(took some playing around to find out which knobs did what).

I am some what a beginner to bass guitar, but IMHO this is a top quality bass for the money. My music style is, If I think that it is groovy then I want to learn how to play it. I am playing through a Peavey TKO115S and this bass an amp combo go good togather. I started out on a Dean Edge I which came up short on tone. But the BBG4SII blew the Dean away by a long shot. I can pretty much dial in any tone that I am looking for with this bass. The Bass has a warm sound to it and the neck has that broken-in feeling to it. The only complaint that I have about this bass is I wished that it came with strap locks, but that can easily be added.
I am giving this bass a nine in the sound category, because I haven't compared to any of the 1000's dollar basses. But in the $400-700 price range it ranks right there at the top for versatile sound, alot more versatile then any Fender, Washburn, Peavey and all the other basses that I tried out in that price range. And for the price that I paid for it, I am extremely satisfied.

Right out the box the action was great(not to high and not too low). The pickups were set decently. There were no flows and believe me I looked everywhere. I replaced the strings that came on it with GHS Boomers and I was good to go. Intonation was perfect(Straight neck and all).

To new to tale, but judging by the quality and reputation of other Yamaha gear that I've owned, this guitar should last a long time and stand up to pretty much anything that you can throw at it. I would definately use it on a gig, but of course I will have a backup. You never know what might happen.

Customer support was great(Thanks Issacs). I called to ask about the strings and EQ knobs that came on it and they replied very quickly.

I have been playing bass for a little over a year now. I been playing the guitar and keyboards for several years. I know good tone and quality when I hear and see it, and this bass has it. I started out on a Dean Edge I and this bass is so much better. If it was lost or stolen, I would definately get another one. I love the way this bass feels and plays. It had that "I been here before feeling" right out of the box. If you are looking for a top quality bass then check this one out, you will not be dissappointed. Muscianfriends have a great deal going on these basses.

March 2001 Taiwanese made, 22 fret, 2 active soapbar neck and bridge p'ups, don't know who makes the p'ups, but they are in the class of lower end Bartollini's; Solid Transparent Black finish (very tuff), Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard (I wish someone would start making basses with hardened maple fingerboards again, I miss the springback:)Has active tone controls, the very best feature of this bass, because you can tune in virtually any sound right on the bass itself!!!!
Body is in the RBX form with a slightly longer neckscale, Gotoh styled tuners, had it only a day so I'll not know if they stay in tune for a while yet. Neck is very comfortable to grip, yet not tooo thin (I also own a SR300DX, and it practically has a guitar-sized neck). Sweet gold-toned hardware, I wonder if it will last, that stuff looks terrible when worn or tarnished!

Suits my style(s) just fine, I have an elaborate home studio, and can plug this sucker direct to board! nice tone that way, no DI box needed, AND - like I said above, can dial in sound on the bass itself, no need to hover over the mixer for an hour!!VERY flexible in that respect, everything from a fuzzed 70's distortion-type bass to a smooth mellow jazz/creamy mid sound, to a bright, punchy, super funk-a-thon, all called up with active tone controls, I LOVE IT!!

Factory setup was just cursory, to get it out the door, although most under $1000 basses are usually that way. same for the pickup height, but I won't gripe, cause I always set everything to my specs anyways, been playing bass 22 yrs, so I have a set-in-your-ways approach to the feel of any instrument. Finish, electronics, and overall look were excellent

I've had/have a huge amount of Yamaha equipment in many forms, from their cheapest keyboards, to a chipset on this computer's soundcard, to a drum machine etc...etc... and have found everything, except a pair of PA's i have from them to be rock-solid-usable. Would gigi in a second w/o a backup. I play through a Crate BT-350 head and a Peavey TX410 Half-stack, beauty, what a great sounding combo!

Very good in most deptarments, but they couldn't find me a horn driver for my PA's for over 2 months (still don't have one!!) so I give them a 7

For what I paid for this, and the quality and sound that I recieved, I thank the Music-Gods!! This bass is easily the equal to an EDB series from Ibanez, or even a mid-level Godin or a high-ended Fender, very flexible, and a comfort to record and play! Yamaha equipment has a great reputation (how many studios do you see with a O1v or an O2R in them, hmmm??)And their instruments have always been high quality low price, try one of their saxes, keyboards, or a Pacifica guitars, and you'll see what I mean, they've served my purposes very well. this bass is a fine example, and if it were lost, stolen(oh please, not THAT!), or burned in a fire, would gladly replace, even at full price. thanx folks:)
