Not sure of the year, made in Korea. 24 frets, four strings. Excellent transparant finish. Volume, blend, bass boost/cut, treble boost/cut. Dual humbucking active Yamaha pickups. Not sure of the body and neck woods, check the other reviews. Nice fast jazz style neck. Good closed-gear tuners. 34" scale. I bought it used and got only the bare bass(notice the price). I gave it a 9 because like other reviewers, mid adjustment would be nice.

Sound : 10
I play everything from metal to classic rock and this bass is perfect. It really is a versatile instrument. I'm using it on a cheap no-name amp, though it sounds good even on that. Raising the treble gives a bit of noise, especially when only the neck pickup is used, but I rarely play with the treble turned up much at all so it's not a problem(the noise is minimal anyway). I gave a 10 because I like a very thick, bassy tone and, after pairing it with flatwound strings, I can get the exact sound I want. Very impressive.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
I bought it used so I can't really comment on the factory setup. When I got it, the action was a little low(got fret buzz when I strung it with flatwounds) so I had to raise it up a bit. Pickups were fine. There were absolutely zero flaws on this beautiful bass.

Reliability/Durability : 9
This bass is very solid. I accidently rammed the body into a dresser and couldn't find a mark on it. The strap buttons are wide enough to keep my strap from coming off, even when playing a 90 degree angle. I've only had the bass for a couple weeks so I can't comment on it needing adjustment. I would use this bass without a backup(providing I was using a new batterY).

Customer Support : No Opinion
Used/no warranty. Never dealt with Yamaha.

Overall Rating : 10
I gave a 10 because I only paid $150 for it and you couldn't possibly get a better bass in that price range. If I had paid more, I would still give it a 9. If it were stolen, I would get another. I love it's tone versatility because, as I said before, it gives my ideal sound, which I haven't been able to get in other cheap basses I've tried(most of which were passive which I'm sure is one reason). It's also very comfortable and easy to play. I wish it had mid adjustment, but it's really no big deal(I don't slap and usually play with the midrange flat).

This is a 2000 model. Taiwan's finest. 34" scale 4 string with 24 frets. 3/4" string spacing at the bridge. Alder with a laminated ash top. Volume, blend, bass and treble knobs. 2 active humbuckers (takes one 9V battery). This one is in translucent red and it's gorgeous. Bolt-on maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. I'd give it a 10 if it had a mid level and frequency control. This bass is great for fingerstyle and slapping.

Sound : 10
I play church worship music, which includes finger, slap and pick styles for blues, country, rock, gospel, and sometimes punk. I'm using a Zoom 607 for effects and an amp simulator and I'm going direct to the mixer through an MXR M-80 DI. I can get just about any sound I want, from a nasel growl to nice scooped mid for slap to good old style bass heavy tone. I put Dean Markley Blue Steels on it for awhile, but the sound was too bright, so I'm now going with GHS Bass Boomers. I recorded with it once through a Pandora PBX3 -- it was nice and quiet. Depending on the room, I like to play with the lowers mids at around 200 and the higher mids at 800 Hz, so I have to use external EQ for that, but otherwise all the sounds I need are right in the bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
No problems with the initial setup and action. No flaws that I noticed.

Reliability/Durability : 9
I take this bass out 2-3 times a week in a gigbag with no backup, and I play with a bunch of teenagers who are hard on everything. I've had the bass for about 1-1/2 years and its still going strong. I've scratched the finish where I rest my thumb and where my fingernails occasionally hit when I slap, but the rest looks great. I've only had to adjust the truss rod when I changed string gauges. I did swap out the strap buttons for straplocks, but the originals were OK.

Haven't had to deal with Yamaha, but the shop I bought it from has been great to work with.

I've been playing guitar for 6 years and bass for about 1-1/2 years -- this was my first bass. I love the way this bass plays, looks and sounds. I'd definitely replace it if it were lost or stolen. Again, the only thing I'd change is adding mid EQ.

I bought it in 2000, it'S made in Taiwan. It has 24 frets(there are not done best, but quite good), and 4 strings.
With it Photo Finish it looks quite expensive, I got the one in translucent read. It has an eshbody, and Maple Neck, I think, with a rosewood fingerbord. The rest was already said I think.

Sound : 7
Wwll. It is quite good sounding. A cool sound for it's price. I like this Progressive Rock Sounds, means: effects most of time (compressor, distortion, delay, chorus, synth) with much depp mids, and it sounds agressive with it, but also is a ballad bass, clean with deeps. Can't give more than a seven, cause 10 would be perfect, then I never would have to buy another bass.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
THe set up was okay, but not even good. the neck was too straight ( i like it convex) and the strings where a little to high. As said before, i'm not okay with the fretwork, they are to sharp to make a cool feeling. And the pickups wheren't adjusted correct(in heigh)

Reliability/Durability : 9
It never made any problems except once: it fell down to the floor, cause of the poor strap holders. i got Security locks now, and it'S okay. It is absolutly durable, also the fifish (bad for me, i would like a used look). THe only thing is, I always have to get a full battery, in case the one runes out, but the battery lasts very long.

NEver dealt with them, had no problems

Best for this money I think. I wanted to bye a Yamaha G5a, but not enough money, so I bought this. BUt I'm sure i gonna buy me a ESH SOVEREIGN COSTUM soon.
I can'T give ten, cause this would be almost a godly bass, and 9 would be perfect, so a goov 8 points

This is a 2000 model made in Taiwan. It is a 5-string with 2 active pickups. Most of the other information has already been given in the reviews above. My bass is green with wood grain showing through. There are four knobs - volume, mix, bass, and treble. The one improvement I would like to see is a mid-range control knob. There are other basses in the same price range as this that have a 3 band equalizer, and the six string JM signature bass in the Yamaha RBX series has a 3 band.

Sound : 9
I mostly play alternative rock and reggae. The active pickups definitely give this bass enough punch to be distinctive in a wall of dense, fuzzy guitar - very important to me, as my previous bass was inadequate for this. But, as a reggae bass, it really shines. It has a fat, clear sound that seems to work a whole lot better with fingers rather than picks (I am about 50/50 in terms of fingers and picks).
I have no complaints in the sound department, but another 1000 dollars would give you better sound - so I'm not going to say it's the best. In this price range it is definitely above average.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
The store I bought the bass from does their own adjustments on new instruments from time to time, so I am not sure if I'm using the factory setup or not.

As for everything else, most of it was in good order - the pickups were well situated, the fretwork was good, the construction seems tough.
The only thing I noticed is that the knobs turned a little wobbly. However, they are very securely fastened. It doesn't bother me too much and it certainly doesn't interfer with their function.

BE WARNED - this look of this bass is a real love/hate thing for most observers. People either swoon at how shiny and colourful it is, or they dislike it because it is too flashy. The reaction is 50/50

Reliability/Durability : 9
I have owned this bass for one month. I have yet to perform with it, but I have done home recording with it and a few jam sessions. Nothing serious. As with most Yamaha products whether it be musical instruments, home electronics, or even snowmobiles, it feels well constructed and you feel at ease with it right away.I have yet to have a problem with any Yamaha products, and I doubt this will be any exception. But, there's always a first time for everything....
Would I use it without a backup - not by choice, but as long as I had some extra batteries around, I think I'd be ok.

I have been playing bass for 2 years now, and this is my third bass. I started off on a cheapie Washburn 4 string, and then moved to an Ibanez 5 string. This bass is by far superior to both of those, and warrants costing twice the price.
I am presently pumping this through a Yorkville Bassmaster 200. I am pleased with the sounds I am getting. If this bass was stolen, I would certainly purchase another one. It has just about everything I want in a five string for the price I am willing to pay. Aside from the sound and feel itself, I like this bass because of it's love/hate appearance. It has a very commanding look.
When I was shoppng for a new bass, I mainly looked at Yamaha and Ibanez basses. I chose this over the Ibanez for two reasons - active pickups and playability. I am not a big fan of Ibanez five and six string basses - it has to do with the string spacing and the feel of the Low B on the neck - I can't put my finger on it, but just felt more comfortable with the Yamaha 5 string. However, If I were purchasing a 4 string, I would definitely get an Ibanez.

This is a '2000' model. This Bass has 4 strings but also comes in a 5 string model, it has a solid body with 2 Active Humbuckers.

Sound : 7
I play Gutsy rock and this bass sounds great, Having active pick-ups give you a great range of different sounds ( I have to be carefull to steer clear of the twangy slap bass sounds). It is quite a warm, full sound that fills out the 'sound gap' well that is left when playing in a three piece band.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 8
I bought this guitar brand new and it seems to be quite well set up, the action was one of the lowest of all the guitars I tried. It comes in three different transparent finishes (red, blue, green) I'm not a huge fan of wood grain but I managed to fined a nice blue one that didn't have a prominant wood grain comming through.

Reliability/Durability : 8
This bass can definatley handle live playing, its quite light when compared to the fender range, I would gig with out a back up, but I guess it depends on how heavily you bash the strings, and on on how many drunken idiots you have to hit over the head with it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with Yamaha yet.

Overall Rating : 8
I am a guitarist turned bass player, I have always stuck with gibson guitars but when it came time to find a bass I did alot of research. This Yamaha was the best quality, best playing, best sounding bass I touched for under a grand. I'm really happy with the bass and wanted to give it 10's all the way but there are much much more expensive guitars out there, and if you get a chance to play them you will know why.

This bass was made in Taiwan by Yamaha corp. The bass is the top model in the RBX series. (Except from the John Myung signature bass.) It has 24 frets and two humbuckers. There are 3 different colors available. Transclucent red, blue and green. The electronics are active. (Battery room on the back.) The finish is gold. The bass has 4 potmeters. Bass, Treble, Volume and Mix. A jack cable is included, otherwise nothing. There has been a change on the humbuckers since the RBX 760A. The only thing missing is a D - tuner.

Sound : 10
This is a truly multi - instrument. The slapbass sound is excellent, as well as ballade smooth sound. I use this bass with a big TraceElliot amp, but it sounds good on anything.

Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
If this bass was a woman, I'd marry her on the spot. It's excellent made, with gold finish. The pickups didn't need any ajustment, though I had to make some ajustments on the string height. The minus was the jack insertion. It was a big big, and you'll have to use a fat jack, if you don't want the sound to fall out now and then.

Reliability/Durability : 10
You have to be careful with this bass. It will hold forever. The strap buttons are wide in gold finish. I can depend on this bass. I'd use it without backup.

I've never contacted Yamaha. I have my own retailer here in Arendal. He helps me when needed.

Overall Rating : 9
I've been playing for 2 years. I needed a guitar I could use for everything. I love the finish. It looks great. I chose this one because Yamaha has dependable basses. It's really light, but the sound is still there.
