Sonic evaluation: I have the Felony X in the neck position of my Washburn WI64. I bought it used on eBay. The seller was also selling an APC Melvin which I didn?t win. This pickup has too much bass to me when I run it clean on one amp and even when I turn down the bass on the amp. It must just be the one amp since I?ve tried the guitar on multiple amps and didn?t run into this problem. This pickup helps your sound remain audible through a wall of distortion. Even though this pickup is in the neck position it is able to retain its highs. Sustain is musical and not a feedback signal. However, if you wanted to run a super high gain situation where you get sustaining feedback you could.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Unless you want a low output pickup this would probably work for anything.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: According to APC, this is supposed to be their 50s style sounding humbucker. I assume that means they are comparing it?s sound to a PAF or something similar. Since I?ve never played a vintage PAF I can?t compare the two. I?ve been using this pickup for hard rock/melodic rock where I feel a powerful yet clear signal is important. Of course this pickup gets the job done. The only problems I have run into are the output difference between the APC in the neck and the stock pickup in the bridge----and I needed to reverse two wires so that the different pickups are not out of phase. Mel Lace is a great guy to talk to and when you?re on the phone with him he won?t try to push the sale. I?ve called him just to ask questions about the pickups and he has followed up with me whenever I ordered pickups from him. I?ve had more than one offer from people asking to buy this guitar because of the pickup. Even though it?s been nearly a year since I put this pickup in, the stock pickup was forgotten long ago.
