So I think it's an H1.
Bought as a Schecter SuperRock II,
but it's a Anderson.
New for 58USD
Instrument
:
- Floyd Rose Discovery DST-2 SpeedLoader. Basswood body and maple neck.
- Neck position.
- Replaces OEM.
- H2+ Bridge pup.
- Changed pups as OEM's are sterile
Sound
:
10
- Med output
- Played thru. Ampeg ReverbeRocket('62)_Torres Deluxe Tweed kit or
Tech 21 TRI-A.C. pre-amp to a Fender AmpCan. Oh, Lovepedal 1/2 Watt.
Cheapo Zoom for touch of delay, chorus and reverb.
Tone and design, the H series pups are related to original Tele Deluxe HB's. FYI, FDR hides the other 6 mag screws under the pup cover.
I kind of think of them as big Firebird pups too. There's a subtle 'boink' to the wound strings at attack that bar mag HB's don't have.
Anderson/Schecter caps the mag rods with steel slugs. The hybrid
design cuts string pull and some top-end. I swapped in rod mags into
a steel slug coil off a spare HB as an experiment. The rods mixed with steel screw coil made for a very bright/twangy bridge.
Over-all, this hybrid design offers true Strat Split(4.3K) mode and
a balanced and open HB.
HB mode lacks pronounced mid hump, b/c of the mags being in the coils.
There's no muddiness, but the bass is full, again mags in coil. No
thin hi's either. Think the 3 bears, this ones just right in Basswood.
Excellent pup clean or distorted. Very clear tone per woods.
Jazz monster pup.
Volume roll-off in HB mode brings a nice touch of SC vibe. I love
P90's and this provides that openness.
Overall Rating
:
10
I'd buy this again, but I'm delving into Split HB's. Bar mag and rod mags. P90 and Strat SC tones are starting to dominate my palate as I become Vintage.
Playing for a long time, my touch and tone are better than ever, but
my chops are dated.
I got this as part of a set, the B pup is the H2+. They are not
anything else, I like that. They offer a high quality tone, that
covers many styles well. This is the HB that satisfies my SC needs,
whilst still being a superior HB.
A typical HB doesn't offer as Fantastic a value, so 10 it is.
