Features
:
Pickup features: single coil, stacked
Impedence or other specs: I wired the things as a single coil so they read 10 K and 15 K---whoa !!!
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: 52 RI Tele
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Duncans of various kinds...Broadcaster bridge, Alnico II neck
Other pickups on guitar: see above
Artists using this pickup: ummm...Lee Rinaldo and Jimmy Bryant ?
You musical style(s): someplace between those two...
Reason for pickup change: Vintage design Tele pu's are cute, but the design has a lot of flaws. I am tired of fooling around with minor variations on an old idea. Great for 1948, but I think we can do better. This is better. Much. Bardens are just too much. This is in-betweeen a stock design and the Barden over-the-top thing.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Lotsa output, but pretty clean
Tone: balanced, even
Sonic evaluation: Used with all sorts of amps---from a '56 tweed Twin to a Peavey Bandit. Instead of the amplified sound being dictated by the limitations of a pu design, they enhance what I can hear of the acoustic properties of the instrument. In other words, not overly bright, bassy, etc., natural sustain...way better than the Fender retro stuff.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: ummm...whatever fits.
Overall Rating
:
7
Comments: If I could get them relatively cheap, yes, I's replace them.
