:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: this pickup would be trouble if you go for big volume.. feedback issues.
Tone: listen to the earliest Muddy Waters electric blues and this cheaply made pickup modeled after the DeArmond "lollipop on a stick nails that throaty decadent sound with distortion or actually has a better then decent clean acoustic for more subtle guitar such as Robert Johnson. Iv'e tried 4 vintage DeArmonds and with my amps were to shrill but did do a good Big Joe Williams clang.
Sonic evaluation: Too many amps to list but sometimes I do dome busking and use a battery powered Peavey Solo and a Danelectro "Big Daddy" and it sounds so vintage tube like it almost makes me feel silly for being a tube fanatic.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: early acoustic.. fingerstyle/slide to early chicago blues
Overall Rating
:
10
Comments: I'm 54 and been trying to get it right since I was a kid. I don't like given to many companies free advertizement so won't list the biggies but have high end aps down to Pig Nose.. sae with guitars, from high end down to vintage Bruno slotted head student square necks with numbers on the frets. Argonne use to make plenty of diverse electronics, I think probably some would say second rate.. but I'm telling you this, after trying vintage amps and pickups up the ying yang trying to get something close to the early Muddy sound, I took a chance on this cheapie and my search is over. Iv'e been looking all around for another for a year but can't find one. If your a blues nut that wants that organic sound plus a nice clean sound for cheap, try to find an Argonne, its all it says on the pu. but like I said earlier it wouldn't be good for high volume but is perfect to replicate the sound back in the day.
