Features
:
A passive humbucker-sized P90.
Instrument
:
It's installed in an ES-335 type of guitar, made by Terada. It's quite hard to find some information about these guitars.
I replaced both humbuckers, wich turned out to be made by Gotoh.
The reason for this was just a matter of taste. The pickups sounded okay, but just didn't sound like "me". I was looking for something in between the single coil brightness and the humbucker fullnes. I got wat I was looking for! I mainly got the idea by listening to the sound of Grant Green (Live at the Lighthouse).

No idea about output level. I have the impression that it's a bit lower compared to the humbuckers, which is fine.
The H-90's interact nicely with my amp, which is a Fender Bandmaster head + selfmade cabinet loaded with 4 Greenbacks. With the humbuckers, the low end tended to get really flabby. If I turned down the volume, the higher strings sounded too thin... This search for the best of both worlds is all over now. To me, these pups sound just great! Full and warm in the neck position, a great bite in the bridge postion and a nice sparkle in between.
I play a kind of a mix with funk, soul and a bit of jazz as main ingredients. I have some effects (EH mini Q-tron, EH big muff, RCM-3 wah,Blackstar overdrive, EH small stone, Xotic bb-preamp, Boss dd-5), but I only use these to colour the sound a bit from time to time. I mainly play clean. Very sensitive, these pickup's. They can really reflect all the nuances in your playing. For me, this was quite a revelation. Of course, the guitar itself also has a great impact on this.

If it was stolen, i'd go crazy, bcause it would mean that someone stole my guitar!!
I'm really happy with these pickup's. I think they are great in combination with the rest of my gear. I just ordered an amp kit, tweed bassman style. Very curious how this will sound in combination with the guiter and pups.
I never compared to other P90's. Maybe there are other pickups out there that sound even better... Always possible, but for me, the search has ended....for now.
