Reason for pickup change: Help!
Just got an instrument with these pickups. Need info.
Both have same #. Bridge is real nasty overdrive, great tone, great sustain, like a PAF on steroids. Fabulous for the early Larry Carlton ES335 tones.
Neck position sounds like a trebly single coil; output is lower than bridge also. Is this a malfunction or were these supplied in pairs and designed to sound so different?
Any recommendations for a clean neck pickup to complement the great bridge B-B if I can't figure out what's going on?
thanx

Sonic evaluation: Carvin AG100 (stock) as pre-amp for Kustom 200. Kustom cabinet with 3 12" Altec Lansing (super clean). Extension cabinet with 2 Carvin vintage 12's; break up nicely when driven. Old transistor head Kustom
needs pre-amp to get decent tone at below-pain db.
Also use a Peavy backstage practice amp. same tonal variations between pickups with either setup.

Comments: been playing +/- 30 years: rock, jazz, blues, classical. have several gibson/epiphone/custom solidbodies, numerous archtop electrics:
hollow/semi-hollow, middle end, and several low end and custom nylon string electrics.
the bridge pickup has "that sound" better than my '61 SG/paul, '68 es335, or hot rodded joe pass. dying to get my hands on a Magnatone
troubador amp; recently had one slip away. this ax with the right neck pickup and that amp would do it...
