Features
:
Single coil telecaster pickup with alnico v magnets and 7k impedance.
Instrument
:
This pickup is in a cheri telecaster copy in the neck position and replaces a seymour duncan quarter pounder and is paired with a brown sugar bridge pick up at the bridge. The reason for fitting this pick up was that the seymour duncan it replaced was over powerful in relation to the bridge pick up.
Sound
:

The pick up has a punchy classic telecaster sound but with some extra power and combines well with the brown sugar bridge pick up fitted to the guitar.
I use a Laney VC30 amp and analogue delay, fuzz and tremolo pedals and this pick up works well with this set up either on its own or in partnership with its bridge counterpart. The tone is basically clear and trebly but the pick up is very responsive to changes in tone and volume offering as good a range as you could want from this type of pickup. It is also worth noting this is quiet, hum free pick up.

If I was building a tele type guitar to suit my musical tastes, 60's garage rock, lo fi blues and pop/rock I would fit this pick up and its bridge counterpart without hesitation. I also believe that these pick ups would be exceptional for virtually any style except heavy metal and jazz.
As far as I am concerned there is nothing to dislike about this pick up it sounds fantastic and is great value for a hand made product.
Check out bareknucklepickups.co.uk they have a really good range and offer great service.

Single coil, passive, 7.0k neck and 7.4 bridge (in other words, quite a hot output), cloth wrapped wire and wound the old fashioned way. Brass grounding plate on bridge and nickel covered neck pickup.
Instrument
:
Installed on a "partsocaster" early 60's style tele made from a kavanagh customs alder body and slab board neck (apparently both were templated from a '61 tele), wilkinson vintage style compensated bridge, grover 6 in line tuners, assorted allparts bits and pieces. A beautiful guitar. This was a new guitar so these pickups weren't replacing anything.

I must confess i haven't yet tried this through a Fender tube amp like I would normally use but this is only going to make things even better, read on..... The guitar was assembled and wired on Friday 3rd Oct and 5 hours and a road trip later it was on stage with me in Ballyshannon, Donegal. The guitar had been given a quick but effective set up and the pickups tested with screw driver to check all was ok but not played, considering I hadn't gigged a tele in around 6 or 7 years nor brought my beloved Van Zandt equipped Strat, this was a risk but I had a good feeling, the gig was a session with an african band but my playing is more on the Blues/Country/Jazz/Rock/Funk side of things, basically American music. The amp the club provided was a Marshall MG series, not exactly an amazing amp but the first note I played during set up told me this was going to be a great gig at least for me and my new guitar anyway! I was using my usual pedal board, from guitar: hot modded Dunlop Wah, Boss TU-2, Fulltone FD-2, Roger Mayer Voodoo vibe and Boss DD-20 delay. That first note on the neck pickup alone was warm, full, dripping with tone but with the expected bite and crispness, beautiful tonal balance and response to pick attack, since i was the first to get set up on stage this meant that for the next 20 or 30minutes minutes up until sound check proper, i played and played and played, all three positions are like the Tele sound I've dreamt of but never been able to get except for an original 1960 Tele I played in a Belfast music shop before but in no way could afford to buy, in fact i haven't owned a Tele for years because I couldn't find one I liked enough in every way. It took every ounce of professional discipline not to play anything while other instruments were being sound checked, these pickups are that good (the guitar itself is also a beauty). The bridge pickup on it's own is exactly what I was hoping for when I ordered these, vintage tele sound but with extra beef, not weak in any way, also very responsive to pick attack, backs off well on the volume if you don't want the extra hot sauce but what a sound when you turn it up and dig in, it's piercing but in no way unpleasant because the tone is so well balanced, lots of chunkiness on the bass strings but never muddy, if like me you're into players like Roy Buchanan or Albert Collins, this is the business for a tele bridge pickup, i've never been able to get that sound from a tele until now, i'm also a big fan of other tele players like Bill Frisell, Albert Lee, Danny Gatton and James Burton, you can get sounds like these guys as well, great for anything really. Both pickups together has that honky twang you expect but again with a fullness and balance i've never experienced on a tele before, great funk and ska/reggae rhythm tone but also very very capable of stinging though chunky lead tones as well. So glad i chose these pickups for my newest guitar, these are keepers for sure.

I've been playing for around 13 or 14 years now and as I said above have only ever played one other Telecaster that I liked the sound of as much as this, but it was an all original 1960 Tele so the price was out of my league, as such I have only ever owned one Tele and I sold it within a few months and that was over 5 years ago with a lot of playing teles in shops in between then looking for that sound, unsuccessfully. I oredered these by post from Northern Ireland on a Friday and they came in 6 days, well packaged and even came with a complimentary Bareknuckle pick and a set of strings great service or what? If anything happens to these I'll replace them like for like and any other Tele I ever own will get the Bareknuckle Brown Sugar treatment, for Strats though i'll stick with Van Zandts which to my ears are the Strat equivilent in terms of superior "Vintage Hot" tones, great service and great value for money. Tone monsters.

This is a single coil, passive telecaster bridge pick up with a dc resistance of 7.6k and alnico 5 magnets' it is scatter wound and wax potted.
Instrument
:
The pickup is fitted in the bridge position of my hot rodded Cheri tele copy and is replacing a GFS pick up. The guitar has 4 way switching with a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder single coil neck pick up. I was considering a new tele but decided to change the bridge pickup instead as this the weak link on the guitar, I have no regrets about this decision.

The best description is that it sounds like a really good hot classic telecaster bridge pickup, plenty of snap and twang with really good definition of individual notes and clarity on chords, this is a pick up that really lets the player make the most of tone and volume controls and is responsive to changes in strength of picking.
I use a Laney VC 30 amp and get really good results with that, I have also put it through a Fender twin and an old Selmer Zodiac with good results.
I mainly play garage rock/ punky lo-fi blues and the pick up works well for that having a good output that will drive most valve amps. The pedals that I use are all analogue, fuzz, delay, tremolo and I have found that with the barenuckle brownsugar bridge pick up individual notes keep their tone and definition better than I have found with other tele pick ups.
One final point is that this pick up is wax potted and is as near completely free of unwanted noise and microphonics as any tele pickup I've come across.

I love this pickup and were I to build up my dream tele I would fit this pick up and its companion brownsugar kneck pickup. I've been playing 23 years and have played a variety of telecasters, vintage and new, Fender and copies and this pickup is as good as any I have come across.
A final message.. check out Bareknucklepickups.co.uk I doubt you'd be disappointed with this pickup and they have plenty more to offer besides.

The pickup as a great dynamic response, the outpout level and the gain is fuction of your attack.. I hope that's understandable..
That's well balanced.
That combination gives a very versatyle guitar, as you can play from bebop to heavy metal..

Pickup features: For a tele... what do you think?
Impedence or other specs: 7.6k A5 Bridge/6.9k A5 Neck - Hand Wound
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Crafter Cruiser t-type
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: stock
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Anything I like, but this guitar's for standard blues-rock
Reason for pickup change: I had these pickups in mind when I bought the guitar. I wanted a t-type and I figured to buy a cheap halfway decent copy and upgrade when I could affordit (In the end, my girlfriend obliged as a surprize b'day prezzy). The stock pickups are pretty much what you'd expect from a cheap t-type.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: All the virtues of a stock tele, but with more body, and the bridge unit is less likely to pierce your eardrums.
Tone: Chunky - the name gives it away really: Think Keef
Sonic evaluation: At the moment I'm just using a little H&K Edition Blue15 (only the clean channel - the O/D is too "fizzy" for me) & a Marshall G10 for the overdriven sounds. Domestic harmony sees me more often using my Korg Pandora or V-Amp with cans.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Perfect for rockin' and rollin', but these pickups have the beef to get heavier if you want, almost p90ish at times.

Comments: Definitely buy again - for not much more than the price of a Squier Standard Tele, I've got a monster. I've been mucking about with guitars foe 30 years (truth be told, a 30 year learner, but hey, my kids have left home now!). I have an Epi SG (destined for some Bare Knuckle Mulee HBs) a couple of DeArmonds, a Wasburn Bandit, Squier 51 (seriously good value) an Ibanez Talman and a couple of other - this is probably the best sounding of the lot.

Reason for pickup change: I was rebuilding and refinishing the guitar and wanted to give it something better than the rather flat stock pickups.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hotter and more aggressive than the stock pickups. Not brittle or glassy - good, full range sound
Tone: Balanced
Sonic evaluation: I'm using the guitar either through a POD XT or a Peavy Triumph (60 watt valve combo). Like the name implies, the pickups give an instant Stones sound - full, hot and rich. There's nothing glassy or brittle about these things.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play quite a few styles, and these pickups are good match for many of them - they're fabulous for classic rock rhythm.

Comments: I've been playing for about 30 years, and have *lots* of guitars. I'm kinda depressed now as these pickups are making the Seymour Duncans in most of my other guitars sound rather lifeless by comparison. When I was looking for replacement tele pickups I went looking for SDs, but my local guitar shop (Oxford Guitar Gallery - highly recommended!) suggested I try the Barekuckles.
If they were stolen I'd definitely replace them with more of the same.

Model of guitar or bass: Relic swamp ash tele, rosewood board
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: non, it's a project
Other pickups on guitar: none although i have tried other before, seymour duncan, wizard, dimarzio.
Artists using this pickup: don't know
You musical style(s): R&B, Dirty blues and a little bit of classic rock
Reason for pickup change: i had a sound in my head that i wanted to replicate, i told tim what i was looking for and he gave it to me (i haven't got a clue how he did it from my description).
I had to order a second bridge pick up as when i got the first ones my guitar wasn't ready for them, my mate borrowed the bridge pick up for his esquire and i never saw it again (i ended up having to give him it as a birthday present!!!)
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Slightly hotter than a standard tele pickup
Tone: unbeleivably well balanced, goes from fat round and sweet to a biting grind without being brittle.
Sonic evaluation: Playing thru a vox ad120vt and a traynor YGM-3 valve, sounds amazing thru the traynor, if you set up a good rythm sound thru the amp using the volume control you can go from a biting tone on the bridge pick up (without the brittleness) to a chunky smooth sweet neck pick up sound.
there are three very distinct sounds available from them, all of which are stunning.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Dirty blues (a la Black keys), Wilco style R&Band anything else i feel like attempting.

Comments: I would definatley buy them again, they're the best tele pick up i've ever heard, it's as simple as that, and they're made in England.
the customer service and delivery are second to non, tim is a gentleman and a guitar palyer and a pleasure to deal with.
I've all ready enquired about having my ES325 minihumbuckers rewound, something else to look forward to.

Comments: I got the Mexican Tele in a trade and wasn't impressed at all. I had been wanting to try a pair of Bare Knuckle Pickups and was I ever surprised. These things are great. I play this guitar more than all the others put together it sounds that good. I've been playing for 35 years and own around 25 diffrent guitars. It's an insult to put these pickups in such a cheap ass guitar. My other Tele's are collectables so that rules out changing pickups in them. Guess I'll have to get another American Made Tele just for these pickups. I'm going to order a pair of Warpigs For a Les Paul Studio that sounds like shit. I'd buy another set of Bare Knuckle pickup's in a heart beat.

Perceived output level: i've heard humbuckers with less balls than these pickups!!! really!!!
Tone: sounds like a tele should, i reckon.
Sonic evaluation: i play thru a yamaha dg stomp, into either, a marshall 15 watter, or into my mac. the guitar sounds incredible now. whereas before the neck was a bit dull, and the middle setting was a bit of a nothing sound, it sounds amazing in all positions, clean or dirty. each setting now has a distinct sound of it's own, which it didn't have before. sounds like a fender should on the clean stuff. turn the wick up, and i swear, blindfold, you'd think you were playing something with humbuckers. it cries, it screams, it does it all !!!
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: country, rock, blues, but you could play anything with these.

Comments: i already had a 'mule' on one of my guitars, so it was a case of which bare knuckles should i put on the tele? i went for the uncovered neck option, as i always thought the covered ones look a bit naff. this one looks like a real bad-boy! they both do, but the neck unit really looks like it means business. the bridge unit was a bit fiddly to get in place, as it's bigger than the stock p/u. i had to do a bit of routing on the body wood, and a bit of grinding on the bridge plate, but the sound is worth it. would i buy the same again, if anything happened to 'em? after i'd stopped bawling my eyes out, hell yes!!! been playing 20+ yrs. also have a home-built axe, with a 'mule' at the bridge (see review), and an epi. les paul hollowbody which will have bareknuckles as soon as i can reasonably afford to swap them. in conclusion, i would say to anyone, if you're replacing your stock p/ups, get some bare knuckles in! truly great pickups, and really nice to deal with, too.

Comments: If I lost this guitar I would go out and buy the same. For a little over ?450 total I have what is basically a professional standard instrument. The tone is breathtaking. Compared to any other pickups I have heard/used, including Gibson, Fender, Fralin, Seymour Duncan, these wee all over them from a great height. Really could not be any better. And can be customised to your own specification, and come with a lifetime guarantee. Just try the website. The only problem is that if you fit one of your guitars with bareknuckles, you won't use any of the others again until they to have bareknuckles. Still, Tim does a full range....

Perceived output level: These pickups are Bareknuckles own design rather than based on any particular tele era.Slightly hotter than stock.
Tone: A very balanced pickup.Strong in all areas.
Sonic evaluation: I play tele's through either a Mesa boogie Maverick or F30.With the "Brown Sugar" bridge you get a slight hike in output which enables your signal to break up through the amp a little easier however there is no compromise whatsoever with tone. Each note is stong and defined and by rolling back the volumn knob ever so slightly the sound cleans up up nicely. This pickup will do the lot and turns an Esquire into a very versatile tool indeed from Country and western into Led Zep/Stones territory and by tweaking the tone pot you get a hard strat type tone too.Its hard to describe but this pickup has a "sonic punch" which adds another dimention to your playing.Since the upgrade I haven't been able to put the guitar down!>
