The guitar is a 1990's Japanese 1960's reissue and they replaced the standard Japanese pickups. As far as I know there are no famous players using them as yet (but maybe you should Eric). The stock pickups were perfectly good but a little sterile sounding. Having already a set of bareknuckles in another Strat, I just had to have this guitar modified.

Output is higher than the standard pickups. Not by a great margin but noticeable though there may be other factors-see below. I play in a covers band and this guitar is generally a back up to my other Strat though at home, playing blues, this is first choice.

I would not hesitate to get another set if these were taken. I have been playing for over 30 years and have one other Strat with Bareknuckle Apaches and a Tele with Bareknuckle Country Boys. These are much thicker toned than the Apaches-more mids and perhaps a bit darker and this maybe why they sound as if they have more output. The name of these pickups will give you the kind of area that they are intended for but they are very adaptable-with great clean tones and plenty of scope for the Hendrix and SRV sounds if that is your bag.Played through a cranked up amp, these are very satisfying-blues players will love them but, as I have said, they are superb clean and will cover all the usual Strat sounds that we all love. The "in between" sounds are way superior to what was there before and I find myself using those tones far more than ever before. You get out what you put in and then some-they are very alive-something that Bareknuckles seem to all have in bucket loads. This was a great guitar before but is now even better.Bareknuckles will always give sound advice and their service, in my experience, cannot be beaten. There is a growing band of very dedicated users and this should tell you all you need to know about doing business with them.A friend was selling them to mod his Strat and get another Bareknuckle set and I jumped at the chance of having them.It brought forward a planned purchase.

Model of guitar or bass: Fender Mexican Super Deluxe Strat

Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Blues
Reason for pickup change: Allways felt the guitar lacked something. Tried Dimarzio and Seymour duncan but the just didn't have that certain something that i was looking for. It's hard to describe but your ears hear the sounds on all those record's and you just expect it to come out of your guitar. But it just isn't there. No matter what effects pedal you run the signal through.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Crisp ,Pristine just an over all feeling of pure proffesional tone.
Tone: From Blues to Rock. In fact now i actually use my tone control.
Sonic evaluation: Fender Mex strat with a Line6 Pod going into a Roctron multivalve.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Blues. Haven't found a bad position yet

Comments: I have been playing for 28 years. Played a lot of guitars with a lot of pickups. These pickups are truely proffesional units. What i like most about them is they are wound by hand. So the pickups you buy will never be exactly the same as everyone else. I am going to change the pickups in my les paul next. No question about it. Finally i am able to hear from my guitar what was always in my head. There all there Stevie Ray, Hendrix Clapton. These pickups really deliver. 150% satisfied.
