:
Model of guitar or bass: Gibson Les Paul Junior
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Bridge
Other pickups on guitar: none
Artists using this pickup: When people realize this can be done, hopefully many.
You musical style(s): Metal,Blues
Reason for pickup change: When playing at high gain settings the feedback and noise associated with the single coil P90 were intolerable and painful.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Slightly hotter than the P90. The clarity of this pickup is unmatched on all levels.
Tone: Very well balanced. I would expect nothing less from Bartolini.
Sonic evaluation: I use the Les Paul Junior through the following: Line 6 Uber Metal Pedal into Electro-Harmonix Graphic Fuzz into Danalectro Daddy-O into VooDoo Lab Amp Selector. The pedals are used one at a time depending on the amount or type of drive I need or none at all to play clean. From the Amp Selector into (1) Traynor YGL-3A MKIII into 4-12 Cab (2) Peavey VTM 60 into 2-12 cab. (3) Peavey Triumph 60 into 4-12 cab. I can play one amp at a time or any combination of the 3 or all 3 at the same time thanks to the amazing VooDoo Lab Amp Selector.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Metal,Heavy Metal,DropTuned Metal and Blues. I use a bizarre tuning which makes finding an acceptable sound very difficult. This pickup is my sound. No one will be disappointed with this pickup.
Overall Rating
:
10
Comments: I would definitely buy this pickup again. No reason to compare to anyone else's Mini-Humbucker.Bartolini is the best they have no competition. There is one other manufacturer whose pickups I use however they do not offer a mini-bucker. In the search for my sound I was constantly told there was nothing I could do with a Dog-Ear P90 equipped guitar. I was told that I had to use whatever options were available with Dog-Ears as there was nothing else I could do without modifying the instrument. Since this was not an option (to modify the instrument that is) I set out to find an option. I contacted Mossdale Valve Works. They have a modified Dog-Ear P90 Cover that will accept a mini-humbucker without any modifications to the instrument. I believe that this cover can be used on any Dog-Ear P90 equipped guitar to mount the mini-bucker. Since the Bartolini is Black in color it looks like it's been in there since the beginning. Any questions please e-mail me.
