:
Model of guitar or bass: Japanese Fender Strat ('76 reissue)

Pickup being replaced: Fender single coil

Artists using this pickup: Not a lot I think
You musical style(s): Hard rock, rock, funk ...
Reason for pickup change: The Fender pickup was squealing at high gain positions
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: normal output
Tone: a lot of bass and treble but no mids; sounds almost like an acoustic guitar
Sonic evaluation: This is the kind of pickup that makes your guitar sound clean and dull, almost sterile ! I can't imagine anyone playing with a strat wanting this tone. It has absolutely no character. This pickup is tapped and when using a switch it gives you a bright glassy sound ( but without the usual twang you'd expect) or a deep sound with a lot of low-mids. As I didn't want to change my strat into a semi-acoustic guitar I removed this pickup after two days . The only positive thing was that this pickup didn't squeal ( the coil is sealed in epoxy ).
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This pickup is only suitable for clean playing
Overall Rating
:
3
Comments: I've been playing for twenty years and I've been trying out a lot of pickups (Fender, Gibson, Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, Bill Lawrence, Ibanez, JD, BC Rich, Epiphone,...)and this one must be the worst I've ever heard. I was curious and I bought it, because that was the only way for me to find out how it was going to sound in my guitar. Now I know why nobody is using them ... I give it a 3 for being so kind not to squeal !
