Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: I would say more than a Duncan 59 but lest than Duncan Custom
Tone: Dead quite, fat as any PAF I've heard, always smooth, yet has super tight bass. As rich and as silvery sweet as PRS McCarty/Dragon 2 pickups, but no muddyness!
Sonic evaluation: This pickup is controlled and huge sounding at any gain level (Can handle heavy metal gain without sweating), rich beyond imagination, but has no drawbacks. When you play this pickup you WILL say this: this is what a pickup is supposed to be like. It is so satisfying. This is great with the ZBS 70 in the Bridge. It makes a better version of the versatile JB/59 duncan setup so commonly used. Want cheap, great tone? Two things make the difference- A great amp and great pickups, the rest is details (No I didn't forget about the guitar itself) relative to the addition price. Hardcore Vintage people might not like how controlled and tight this pickup is. It isn't modern sounding at all it just isn't imperfect sounding like a crappy old PAF.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: You could use this pickup in anything, and it would sound good.
Overall Rating
:
10
Comments: Good things come to those who wait. There are no traffic jams on the extra mile. It might take a little extra effort, money and patience to get the new Bartolini Pickups, but the reward is clear-The best pickup ever. Don't forget the epoxy coating (under the nickel covers) this things is tough. Places to order from- thebassplace.com, starspickups.com, Guitar Center (special order)
