Perceived output level: At least as much as a duncan JB, probably not near as much as a Dimarzio Evolution
Tone: Lots of sweet sounding highs, harmonics for breakfast lunch and dinner, and dessert, tight bass, no mud even at low gain levels, Very detailed, Controlled internal pickup distortion (edgy). It is smooth too (I know that seems contradictory, but play it and you will be a believer)
Sonic evaluation: King of the Studio! This is THE crunch pickup. It is similar to a JB but is much clearer (It sounds great even at low gain levels-clean with a dynamic edge). King of the Stage! It could cut through titanium, but isn't shrill like the JB. This pickup is very controlled even in my semihollowbody which actually has no wood under the bridge pickup. This pickup like any of the PBF or ZBS bartolinis has no drawbacks. Okay there is one drawback: You will have to learn how to play your guitar better! This pickup shows any flaws in your playing because it is so detailed. This pickup is a great match with a Bartolini PBF 49. Like a Duncan JB/59 setup except better!
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Great for Hard rock, crunch, blues, has more than enough highs for country and is smooth enough for jazz despite the edginess

Comments: For those who DON'T like to play follow the leader, Bartolinis are your pickups. This pickup make my Semihollowbody scream like an angel, if angels screamed. I couldn't be happier. Special Order at thebassplace.com, starspickups.com or Guitar Center otherwise good luck finding them. Be patient, good things come to those who wait!
