Features :
Pickup features: Passive Single Coil with Center Blade
Impedence or other specs: 7.6 k ohm

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Originally Fender, Currently Rogue Neck
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Rogue stock sensor
Other pickups on guitar: No name Gibson style humbucker and Rogue stock sensor in the mid
Artists using this pickup: who know...a few I'm sure being it's a Carvin
You musical style(s): MANY STYLES ACCEPT FLAMINGO AND SLIDE
Reason for pickup change: Before I new how to mod pickups and electronics the stock Fender wasn't cutting it in the bridge position. After the Carvin still didn't do it for me I went with a humbucker. The Rogue is a really nice guitar but its pickups were simply annoying me. No difference in sound be it the bridge humbucker neck or mid position. I was broke and needed a pickup that would fit. My Mighty mItes are strat styled so the extra lip at the bottom wouldn't allow them to fit and I had assumed it might simply sound good because of having used it before.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Probably about a normal level of output. Supposed to be a louder pickup for bridge but it really wasn't just more midrange
Tone: A softer toned pickup for sure. Very smooth sounding with a mid emphasis slightly higher than the treble or bass
Sonic evaluation: It was fine in my Fender and had I known how to boost it I would have kept it there but I wanted to be able to play metal and just have a lot more output so it was pulled and replaced with a $20 humbucker that at the time to me soundned better but more to it just gave me more volume and gain which is what we all seem to want in the beginning. Overall its what I call a tone pickup. If your looking for something that wasnt so much designed for clarity or brightness but has a very smooth sound where the treble and bass isn't punchy this is it. A great Jazz single coil for sure.It is a Bridge position pickup and sounds decent in my neck position on my Rogue(Ibanez) but I don't much care for it at this point. It has WAY to much midrange for a guitar that naturally produces plenty of mid. The pickup has this vibrant yet soft and almost muffled kind of sound but in a good way. With high value pots and maybe a steel plate to boost its output this thing could give a great Floyd sound in the bridge. It kinda has a congested sound but in a very good way. I don't care for the ppl at Carvin but they make a damn good pickup.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play primarily metal, all variations of rock , blues and jazz but really a bit of everything. This pickup with the simple steel plate mod is suitable for all positions. I could tell Start guys I paid $150 for and once they heard it they'd believe me!

Overall Rating : 9
Comments: If it were stoilen or destroyed I could hold off on replaceing it but I would hate to lose it from my arsenal. Currently I dont have a strat styled guitar worth putting it in. I've been playing 8 years or so, on and off the last few years and own and have owned a variety of gear. I like the congested somewhat muffled sound this pickup has. It has extra midrange output which blends with this sound I'm certain the way it was designed to. My guess is they wanted a Floyd sounding pickup. Comparing it to other brands is pointless. The only thing Carvin makes better than their pickups is their guitars. I don't feel there is a btter brand of pickups on the market. Their price, variety and performance is uncomparable to any other brand. Boy I've been giving 10's out for a vast amount of my gear sio I'll keep this one at a 9. It only needs more volume which would likely change the sound. I think they leave that up to us. Steel back plate and 1 or 2 meg pots will definitely do it. I've been using this method since about a year and a half of playing and was fortunate to stumble on to it. Overall its a great pickup and if you want the Floy strat sound it will deliver.
