Features :
Pickup features: Single coil passive
Impedence or other specs: Oops, didn't measure it.

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Squire Start
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Whatever was in it
Other pickups on guitar: Stock squier pups
Artists using this pickup: Anyone who plays a dano
You musical style(s): Rock/Punk
Reason for pickup change: Neck pup crackly and microphonic following a misadventure with cranberry juice.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: definitely higher output than a stock Squier pup
Tone: Responds -really- well to the tone control. Can be lovely and 'smoky' or very bright
Sonic evaluation: Squier strat, Marshall MG15. Lovely, lovely well balanced sound. Not really 'rock', but when you want to switch mood mid song, it really is a blinder!

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Not for rock. Not bad for punk though!, good for 'Dick Dale' impressions. Not for everyone though

Overall Rating : 8
Comments: As the guitar wasn't mine ( oops! ), and as I trashed the original pup, I think I got a bargain. The owner loves it too. Solid 8 given as its good value for the performance. Try a Dano -before- replacing your pup with one, you may not like the sound, and they do sound unique.

Features :
Pickup features: Passive Single Coil
Impedence or other specs: ?

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Vantage Avenger
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: No-name single coil
Other pickups on guitar: Gibson PAF Plus
Artists using this pickup: Colin James (Silvertone U1)
You musical style(s): Ska, Surf, Punk, Blues
Reason for pickup change: Noise, too thin a sound.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: The lipstick has a bright cutting sound, and it's relativley sensitive seeing as how the pickup sits slightly above the pick gaurd with and is still slightly louder than the Gibson PAF+ pickup
Tone: Trebly, but with the tone turned down and the tone switch on my avenger thrown you can get some nice muddy mids through it.
Sonic evaluation: As stated earlier I'm using this with a Vantage Avenger 6 string that I'm refurbishing so that it is actually a good guitar. It's got a Fender USA Strat neck and a Gibson PAF+ humbucker in the neck position. I'm running this through a Vox AC30TBX with the complete classic Danelectro series effects boxes. (Danecho, Daddy-O, Cool Cat, Fab Tone) and Boss's Tremelo and Acoustic Sim stomps.
So far I'm getting really nice surfy sounds, and it's definatly a lot quieter than the previous guitar setup (crappy ass pickups that made more noise than a vacum cleaner). It can also handel it's own in the punk and ska world.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Ska, Punk, Surf

Overall Rating : 8
Comments: I think I'm going to keep the Lipstick in, but I'm definatly going to replace the PAF+ with an EMG 60 within the year. I'll probably also get a faceplate that can mount another single coil in the mid position and try inserting either a SD Cool Rails or vintage rails.
