I installed this upgrade on a project strat with hss pick ups made in mexico - i also installed a tbx switch in the master tone switch. I installed this mod as i am currently playing using no effects except a bit of reverb & occasional bit of distortion and I wanted the best tone possible out of my strat - also I missed the position 2 single coil sound of my other strat.

Guitar now sounds great - I now have 11 possible pick-up combinations. I am playing a wide range of music and I can make this guitar suit any style - I got rid of my line 6 variax that i'd bought for this job

Features
:
Pickup features: Three positiom ROTARY switch that expands the potential pickup combinations available in your Stratocaster or other "S-type" guitar, specifically those with 2 single coils and a bridge humbucker.
Impedence or other specs: Works in conjunction with the 5-way pickup selector switch to give you 4 new combinations. Keeps the guitar looking stock; replaces the centre tone control and lets you change the last tone control into a master tone. With the FAT -O-Caster, you can get seven parallel combinations PLUS a couple of series settings, for a total of NINE different pickup combinations. Simple to follow instructions and diagrams are included. I installed it myself in 90 minutes.
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: 1996 Fender Lonestar Strat
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: kept stock pickups, removed centre tone control
Other pickups on guitar: 2 Texas Special single coils and a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates, not too powerful humbucker
Artists using this pickup: unknown
You musical style(s): Rock, Hard Rock, Vai, Satriani, Top 40, the usual Classics & what's NOW
Reason for pickup change: This Strat sat unused for 8 years. Not enough push & power, it was easier for me to play my other axes. I was referred by a guitar tech-pro the Deaf-Eddie website, and thought I had found redemption and a use for this one at last. I liked the tone chart that was posted, and it seemed that I would be able to get more from a Fat Strat than I thought was possible. I had just sold my SG (for no reason ... it was a great guitar and somebody just wanted it really bad) and surmised that this dull Fat Strat, if modified, could fill in. Worth a try for 25 bucks! Technically, I wanted a heavy, AC/DC & Metallica sound back in my repertoire.

Perceived output level: All normal Strat tones, a little hotter with stock overwound pickups in the first place PLUS fuller & fatter, pseudo-humbucking tones. Louder, more punch, power to drive distortion & sustain.
Tone: Balanced power, full range of sounds with neck & middle single coils in series. Like a decent humbucker. And then, there's a similar combination that actually uses the humbucker too, with all 3 pickups on tap!
Sonic evaluation: At least I can use THIS Fat Strat now, so what's the question? I am using this otherwise stock Fat Strat, modified with a total of 9 sounds, my Boss ME-33 multi effects processor, Jimi Hendrix Cry Baby and a Peavey 60 watt transtube Bandit 112 amp. My other guitars are a custom Fat Strat which I built using a preamp on board with active EMG pickups and a more powerful humbucker, an Ibanez Jem with 2 special DiMarzio humbuckers and a single complete with predetermined, built-in wizardy of coil shunting & splitting, for $2,000 worth of cool pickup combinations, plus a new Rickenbacker 330 which I bought after I sold the Gibson SG.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Great for a variety of music styles. Not inappropriate for anything, but I don't play Country.

Comments: Been playing 6 years. Still a student of guitar, but semi-pro. I like the variable sounds and the fact that I've beefed up a pretty plain Strat with way more power, or what sounds like alot of power. I'm happy with that. If I had known before I wouldn't have built my own Strat to get the heaviest sound that I thought was possible. Way better than spending thousands of dollars again, or buying/building another Stratocaster, or better?, whatever? guitar. THIS IS BETTER!
