I would say they are moderately hot pickups. I can get a nice classic heavy metal tone from them, but I don't think they're hot enough for some of the more nu metal or metal-core styles.
I'm currently running through a Peavey Bandit 112 with a Hughes and Kettner AX412 cab. Tone wise, they sound like the mid is boosted a little. Not very bassy and playing some chugging low end riffs can get a little muddy. I play stuff from jazz to blues to death metal and I would say these pickups are a little more suited towards the blues/hard rock/classic metal style of things. They have very good harmonics.
The neck pickup is warmer and puts out a rounder tone. Great for playing something like the opening riff to Sweet Child O Mine.
Clean the neck pickup is very nice sounding. Not the warmest I've heard, but a little glassy and sweet, but still has depth. Great for blues or backing chords.

I've actually been considering replacing the bridge pickup for something to give a slightly more modern sound, like a DiMarzio D-Sonic or something, but at the moment I'm happy with the classic sound these put out. Gives me a slightly broader spectrum of sound.

Perceived output level: Pretty high output
Tone: The one in the new position is alot more bassy, great for metal-It has a slightly hotter output too. The bridge pickup is a little more nasal.
Sonic evaluation: Playing through a Dean ML-X into a Crate GFX-212. Sounds great!! Awesome ballsy sound through the neck, thumping bass and just the right about of treb and mids. The bridge is a little more mid boosted, also good for straight up heavy metal stuff. Also has a good jazzy tone. I usually play with both of them selected for clean and funk sounds, they have a very bright sparkling snap to them.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Metal(neck, bridge), Industrial(neck), Jazz(bridge, both), Funk(both)

Comments: Hmm, If they were stolen, and I still had the guitar(????), I'd probably but something else just for the sake of trying something new.
