Sonic evaluation: Using Vox AC15, Marshall J2000 DSL 50w, JCM900, Fender Tonemaster, H&K puretone amps. Have the pickups wired using a yamaha switch from StewMac having N/NBs(OutOfPhase)/B/MBs(OOPh)/MBs combinations. s=series.
These pickups will nail the tone. However they also squeal like a pig

Comments: Unique sounding with the versatility of a drop in replacement for strat pickups. That squeal almost makes it unuasable beyond low volume settings. The manufacturer never responded to my emails. So much for the warranty.

Artists using this pickup: Brian May?
You musical style(s): Rock, Blues, Fusion, Whatever.
Reason for pickup change: I wanted to tear out the original active system and replace the west german utrasound pickups. They always seemed to lack something i.m.h.o.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Seem normal to me.
Tone: balanced
Sonic evaluation: Was using Boss GT-5 + headphones to check the pickups out today.
Better explain. I bought 3 pickups, 1 Bridge + Middle matched pair +
one extra middle pickup for the neck position. The Artfield guitar has a 30 fret neck so the bridge pair are bunched together like a humbucker. The neck pickup is where the middle pickup would be on a strat. I wired the two bridge pickups in series (as a humbucker) with
a switch to choose which pickup to humbuck with (the one next to the bridge or the middle). I also added a switch to choose single coil action for the bridge. A 3 way switch for selecting combinations.
Resulting choices (where meaningfull):
1 Bridge + Middle (series humbucking) Nice PAF type sound perhaps hotter
2 Bridge + Neck (series humbucking) A bit muddy for my taste
3 Bridge (as single coil) Good option to have. Sounds good
4 Neck (single coil) Love it.
5 Bridge + Neck (in parallel) Works well. Quacks like a goodun, selecting single coil or humbucker for the bridge gives a variation in tone (+humbucker gives darker sound)
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Many styles. The pickup is good for this guitar. These pickups are sold as matched pairs.

Comments: If it were destroyed or stolen, I may try something else, but then I like a change now and again. I've been playing for 36 years. I chose this pickup because it looked as if it didnt have a strat style lip sticking out at the back (which means it wont fit in an Artfield). Once out of the box it did have such a lip, grrr. But they were easy to remove with a knife :-). The artfield is not an easy guitar to find pickups for because the pickups have to drop into shaped holes in the wood which dont cater for standard humbuckers or single coils.
I like THESE pickups in THIS guitar. Lots of different sounds. Great tone. Getting rid of the active system was a good idea.

Artists using this pickup: Don't know.
You musical style(s): Progressive rock, Yes, Floyd, King Crimson, Jazz Fusion, al Dimeola, John McLaughlin
Reason for pickup change: Inital installation on my guitar. I wanted a single coil sound but
not an obvious strat copy sound.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hot single coil sound about a Rickenbacker stock pickup streangth.
Tone: Flat for a single coil
Sonic evaluation: Well the guitar I have it in is made with a lot of great wood and I can hear the wood. The sound is detailed without sounding artifical. I did not put in the recommended series paralel switch. they sort of remind me of the 70's Les Paul Reccording pickups that were low impedance. Clear attack without sounding twangy. Just great sound you hear the wood and the player.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Great for clear Steve Howe riffs. Good for crisp jazz lines. Not for metal the bottom is not loud enough. Not twangy enough for country.

Comments: I like the pickup it works. It has a distinctive sound all it's own and for clear sounding detailed guitar playing it is excellent. If you are looking for a humbucker with a lot of bottom lok somwhere else. I haven't tried it with the reccomended series wiring. Your results may vary.
