Features
:
Pickup features: Single Coil
Impedence or other specs: I just hit the strings and play.
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Charvel "Power strat" copy
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Stock charvel/jackson
Other pickups on guitar: DiMarzio FS-1(middle) and Gibson 490T (bridge)
Artists using this pickup: Me
You musical style(s): Power pop, punk, classic rock, oldies
Reason for pickup change: Stock single coil pick-up lacked the clarity, brilliance and tonal qualities of a good single coil.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Medium
Tone: A bit bassy but very clear. Sounds like an old 1950s Fender singel coil.
Sonic evaluation: In my mind, I knew the classic Fender single coil sound I wanted. This pickup just nailed it - 100% on the money. It really sounds beautiful in my Charvel "power strat" copy driving a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I use this in the neck position. See above re: styles of music.
Overall Rating
:
10
Comments: My Charvel "power strat" copy played great, but the stock pickups left something to be desired. This guitar plays great, and I wanted to get very specific sounds out of each pickup to turn it into my perfect guitar. I wanted a traditional Fender single coil sound in the neck and a coil tapped Gibson 490T in the bridge. In my mind, I knew exactly the tones I was looking for. This pickup is exactly what I was looking for. Folks are amazed at the beautiful tones I get out of my very modest set up. I'll be buying more of these.

:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: nearly the same as the original 57/62 srtat
Tone: clean, bright, twangy ,happy sound
Sonic evaluation: I play my strat with a laney vc 30 (all tube) and a marshall bluesbreaker pedal for an extra gain.

Comments: Frist my goal was put in my guitar original two 57/62 strat in the bridge and in the neck, and the virtual vintage in the middle; I went to the shop but they didn?t have the 57/62 so they told me about the class of 55. The pickup is very similar to the original strat(it has the lower B sring magnet too!!),same ouput level, but a little more twangy.I've got it in the bridge but I think that the best sound you can get from it is in the middle.Great pickup, great sound

Model of guitar or bass: 1994 Mexican Stratocaster
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Stock Fender Mexican Strat PU
Other pickups on guitar: HS-3 with coil cut in mid, SD Quarter Pounder in bridge
Artists using this pickup: Steve Morse?
You musical style(s): With this guitar, blues and r&b
Reason for pickup change: Stock Mexican PU was too muddy.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Pretty low output.
Tone: Tone is trebly but not brittle. Beautiful, to be short.
Sonic evaluation: Through my SansAmp GT-2, this pickup sounds perfect. If you want
the classic Strat neck PU tone, this is what you need.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This PU is fine for neck and mid, but would not be good in the bridge. It works wonderfully for blues.

Comments: I would never put any other pickup in the neck position of a Strat.
Enough said.

Model of guitar or bass: yamaha pacifica 712
Position: middle
Pickup being replaced: stock yamaha pickup
Other pickups on guitar: duncan hot rails (neck) and duncan custom custom (bridge)
Artists using this pickup: Dweezel Zappa
You musical style(s):
Reason for pickup change: The original stock pickup had a very nice quake when in the 2 and 4 positions, but the tonality was weak and needed some improvement.
I chose this pickup because it allowed me to retain some of the quake even with hot pickups in the 1 and 5 positions.

Perceived output level: about the same as the original
Tone: thin, quaky, bright
Sonic evaluation: I'm using Yamaha solid state amplification. I have the guitar wired standard, except for an added microswitch, which, when activated, combines the current pickup selection with the neck pickup in series.
When combined with the hot rails pickup, I get some nice almost balanced, slightly edgy, unique sounds.
Combined with the custom custom, I get a clear quaky sound with even power.
This is a very interesting pickup to have in the middle position!

Comments: I am very satisfied with this pickup. It allows me a very diverse choice of sounds.
The output doesn't really compete with either the hot rails nor the custom custom; in fact, I had to adjust the hot rails further away from the pickups so it wouldn't overwhelm the sound of the 55 when combined.
But this is not meant to be a hot pickup. It's great for what it is, though probably not to everyone's taste.
